At this age when most people become incapable of moving around, Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, the founder of Apollo Hospitals, goes to his office every day at the age of 92. The hard work and vision of the founder of the largest hospital network in the country have transformed the entire scenario of health services in India. Dr. Reddy works in the office every day from 10 AM to 5 PM.
Even today, Dr. Reddy's energy and dedication to work are no less than that of a young person. He says that health services are his passion and he wants to continuously improve them. Dr. Reddy started the country's first corporate hospital, Apollo Hospitals, in 1983. At that time, there was a lack of good healthcare facilities in the country, and people used to go abroad for treatment.
Dr. Reddy was determined to provide global-level medical facilities within the country. His vision has forever changed the healthcare services in the country. Born in Chennai, Dr. Reddy studied MBBS at Stanley Medical College and received training as a cardiologist in the United States. A letter from his father in the 1970s inspired him to return to India. In 1979, the death of a patient due to inadequate facilities shattered him so much that he decided to start Apollo Hospitals afterward. He also vowed that no one would die due to lack of treatment again.
Today, Apollo Hospitals is not just a hospital but a large healthcare empire. Apollo has 71 hospitals, over 5000 pharmacy outlets, 291 primary care clinics, a diagnostic network, and a digital health platform across the country. Quality healthcare services are being provided at every corner of the country by this group. The group is continuously expanding these facilities. The market cap of Apollo Hospitals is currently over 70,000 crores.
The Reddy family holds a 29.3% stake in it. According to Forbes, Dr. Reddy's total wealth is Rs 26,560 crores. Despite such wealth, he lives a very simple life. Dr. Reddy believes that success makes us humble and inspires us to work more for the country. In an interview with Business Today, he said, 'We should use our success to make the country better.'

Delhi government seeks Rs 1K crore for measures to clean up air
NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has requested a grant of Rs 1,000 crore from the Centre to deploy new technology and implement measures to improve the Air Quality Index (AQI) of the national capital, PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said on Sunday. Verma, along with Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, was inspecting the Nehru Park area as part of the government's initiative to install air purifiers in the city. 'Since we have formed the government, our cabinet minister Singh Sirsa and his department have taken several steps in lowering pollution and AQI in Delhi. We will identify spots in Delhi and come forward with our best technology. We have requested a funding of Rs 1000 crore from the central government for this,'Sahib Singh said. The ministers visited Nehru Park to review the feasibility of creating a pilot Clean Air Zone. The government is evaluating whether the installation of outdoor air purifiers across public parks can create micro-climates of significantly cleaner air, particularly during days with increased AQI levels. This is part of a larger exploratory study that could lead to Delhi's first Clean Air Zone if found viable. The 85-acre Nehru Park has been identified as a potential pilot site for the installation of 150 advanced air purification machines, subject to further analysis. 'We are conducting a study. The technology has shown promise in limited applications, and we aim to determine whether it can work across larger green zones, such as Nehru Park. We aim to ask people if the technology fit to work or not in their feedback,' said Sirsa. 'This is part of a proactive approach — testing innovation before scale, and only where it truly benefits people.' Each proposed purifier is over 9 feet tall and uses advanced filtration technology to capture harmful PM2.5 particles. If implemented in the future, these could cover a 400–600 square meter radius and offer year-round relief to walkers, joggers, and children using the park.

Monkey menace triggers panic at Melur GH in Madurai, authorities say patients feeding them
MADURAI: Patients and attendants at the Melur Government Hospital in Madurai district continue to face persistent trouble from groups of monkeys that have been invading the hospital premises for years, triggering fear and frustration among the public. The monkeys, believed to have migrated from forest areas near Alagarkoil, have become a common sight in the hospital, especially during late mornings. Patients allege that despite multiple rescue operations, the monkeys continue to return in groups, creating panic. "Every day, monkeys roam freely around the hospital wards. They feed on garbage and even when no food is available, they leap from floor to floor, unsettling patients. They often arrive between 10 am and 12 pm, and behave as if we are the intruders in their territory," said Vijayamohan, a patient attender. Sathyamoorthy, a resident who frequently visits the hospital's 24-hour maternal care centre with his wife, echoed similar concerns. "The monkeys try to snatch bags and belongings. Only when staff or sanitary workers arrive with sticks do they retreat. Though they haven't attacked anyone so far, their presence is intimidating. Even after being caught once, they return and are now seen across all blocks of the hospital," he said. A top official from the Melur GH confirmed that while no bite incidents have been reported, the hospital staff, including doctors, are alarmed. "We spent over Rs 40,000 to purchase cages, and the forest department helped relocate several monkeys to deep forest areas. The problem subsided for a few months, but has returned. Some patients continue to offer food, which attracts the animals. We have warned them against feeding," the official added. District Forest Officer (Madurai) Tarun Kumar said that the department has repeatedly rescued monkeys from Alagarkoil and nearby areas. "Even after relocation, they tend to return to urban pockets like Melur due to continued feeding by the public. We have seen individuals feeding monkeys behind the hospital, which only worsens the situation. We will soon launch an awareness campaign to educate the public and discuss preventive strategies in upcoming district-level monitoring meetings," he said.
