Superman actor hopes to bring hero to a new generation
The 31-year-old, who has the dual role of Clark Kent and his Kryptonian alter-ego, told the PA news agency: 'You can't help but make it your own.
'I wish I could just give the great performances that have come before, but I couldn't help but do my own thing.
'So much of (the history) is already in the character and people's knowledge and love of the character.
'So that sort of came for free, and I just had the great opportunity to maybe explore some different forms of the character and hopefully bring him to a new generation who maybe haven't had their first Superman experience.'
He joked that he didn't have big shoes to fill as his were custom-made, so they 'fit like a glove'.
The James Gunn-directed remake, described as 'the true beginning of the DC Universe', sees Twisters actor Corenswet protecting Earth from Nicholas Hoult's scheming Lex Luthor.
Gunn, a self-confessed DC Comics superfan, co-chief executive of DC Studios and writer of the reboot, said he has brought his favourite elements of the comics into the 21st century – including superhero dog Krypto.
'This is really about presenting the Superman to the world that I love and have loved since I was a kid,' Gunn told PA.
The Marvellous Mrs Maisel actress Rachel Brosnahan stars as Lois Lane, and her romantic connection with Clark Kent has been teased in a trailer in which they stare at each other in the Daily Planet newspaper offices, and later embrace.
Brosnahan said filming with her co-stars and Gunn was 'a blast'.
She said: '(The film) gave us the opportunity to deepen the relationship between Lane and Kent and explore more deeply this relationship that you've come to know in the comics for so many years.'
On playing a reporter, the 34-year-old said: 'I have a whole new appreciation and, also, I'm on to your tips and tricks.'
Gunn, famed for Marvel film series Guardians Of The Galaxy and DC Comics movie The Suicide Squad, said he is excited for fans to see the personal interactions between Lane and Kent.
He added: 'I'm excited for every piece of it, and it makes me it really warms my heart that all of these people are so excited to be here.'
British actor Hoult plays Superman's nemesis and the chief executive of the LuthorCorp, and the film also stars several DC superheroes, including Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), a Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion) and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced).
It will be released in UK cinemas on July 11 by Warner Bros Pictures.

BBC will no longer live stream ‘high risk' music acts after Bob Vylan incident
The BBC admitted it had assessed the act as 'high risk' before Glastonbury but deemed them suitable for live streaming. The broadcaster said this was 'clearly not the case', adding it was changing its procedures around live music events meaning any music performances deemed high risk will now not be broadcast live or streamed live. Bob Vylan were deemed a 'high risk' act before Glastonbury, the BBC said (Ben Birchall/PA) The statement said: 'We deeply regret that such offensive and deplorable behaviour appeared on the BBC and want to apologise to our viewers and listeners and in particular the Jewish community. We are also unequivocal that there can be no place for antisemitism at, or on, the BBC. 'It is clear that errors were made both in the lead-up to and during Bob Vylan's appearance. We think it's important to set out some of the detail around the streaming of this performance. 'Bob Vylan were deemed high risk following a risk assessment process applied to all acts appearing at Glastonbury. Seven acts including Bob Vylan were included in this category and they were all deemed suitable for live streaming with appropriate mitigations. 'Prior to Glastonbury, a decision was taken that compliance risks could be mitigated in real time on the live stream – through the use of language or content warnings – without the need for a delay. This was clearly not the case.' It added: 'Given the failings that have been acknowledged we are taking actions to ensure proper accountability for those found to be responsible for those failings in the live broadcast. We will not comment further on those processes at this time. 'Furthermore, as a result we will make immediate changes to live streaming music events. 'Any music performances deemed high risk will now not be broadcast live or streamed live.' The BBC has also promised to take action to 'ensure proper accountability' and issued an apology to viewers, especially the Jewish community. Avon and Somerset police have launched an investigation into the comments made during the group's West Holts Stage set. The group came under fire for chants during their performance on the West Holts Stage (Yui Mok/PA) It has since emerged that the group were already under investigation by police for comments made at a concert one month before Glastonbury. Video footage appears to show Bobby Vylan at Alexandra Palace telling crowds: 'Death to every single IDF soldier out there as an agent of terror for Israel. Death to the IDF.' The rap group issued a statement on Tuesday claiming they were being 'targeted for speaking up' after Avon and Somerset police began its investigation.
