Motorcyclist clocked at 120mph in Barrie neighbourhood: police

A motorcycle was impounded after the rider was clocked speeding in Barrie, Ont. A motorcyclist in Barrie is off the road for the next month after officers say the bike was caught travelling more than double the posted speed limit in a residential area. Police say officers clocked the motorcycle speeding 120 kilometres per hour in a posted 50 zone on Harvie Road Thursday afternoon. The rider was stopped and handed a stunt driving charge, which carries an automatic 30 day licence suspension and 14 day impoundment. Under the Highway Traffic Act, stunt driving charges can be laid for speeds of 40 km/h or more over the limit in zones with a posted limit under 80 km/h. Penalties include automatic vehicle impoundment, a licence suspension, hefty fines ranging from $2,000 to $10,000, and the possibility of up to six months in jail or a two-year licence suspension upon conviction.

Penny Oleksiak withdraws from swimming worlds citing whereabouts case with World Aquatics

Canada's Penny Oleksiak has withdrawn from the world aquatics championships due to being in a whereabouts case with World Aquatics, she announced on social media Friday. The 25-year-old Toronto native said "it does not involve any banned substance" and "I am and always have been a clean athlete and will be making no further comment at this time." The world championships are set to begin July 11 and end Aug. 3 in Singapore. Oleksiak received support of her decision from Swimming Canada CEO Suzanne Paulins, who said the organization believes Oleksiak "is a clean athlete who made an administrative mistake," in a statement on social media. Paulins did, however, say it was "disappointing news." Paulins said athletes are responsible for completing whereabouts and submitting filings on time to comply with anti-doping rules to avoid sanctions. Oleksiak is a seven-time Olympic medallist and nine-time world championship medallist.
