Charlie Adam spills beans on Dundee job snub as he airs thoughts on Steven Pressley
The call never came.
But Charlie Adam insists he's ready to answer if opportunity knocks as he seeks a return to management.
Adam threw his hat in the ring for the Dundee job over the summer after Tony Docherty's shock sacking.
The lifelong fan and former captain had his heart set on taking over the reins at Dens Park.
But the ex-Liverpool and Scotland star never heard back from his beloved club as the Dark Blues opted for Steven Pressley.
He revealed: 'No, I had no discussions at all. I applied like probably a number of others and ultimately they've decided to go a different direction.
"That's up to them and they make a decision on that.
"But the club is there and I'll always support them and hopefully we can start getting the season up and running and start the season well because it was a tough end to the season.
"Hopefully fresh ideas and something different, then Steven can get the team winning and build something this season.'
Adam was axed less than a year into his first crack at management with Fleetwood Town.
But that hasn't dented the former Rangers midfielder's desire to be his own man.
Adam - who left Everton after a short stint as set-piece coach - said: 'I want to get back in, yeah, absolutely.
"I had 50 games at Fleetwood and came out and then went into Everton for four months at the back end of the season and loved it.
"But, yeah, I want to be a number one. I want to be a coach and that's my next route and path.
"I'm open to anything. I'm open to coming to Scotland and looking at what the situations are.
"I looked at a couple of jobs that became available in the summer.
"But, again, you have to respect what the clubs are looking at and what they've done and that's the way football goes. But I'm always keeping an eye on Scottish football.'
The left-field appointment of Pressley certainly caught Dundee fans by surprise.
And the pressure is already on Elvis after the Dees were eliminated from the Premier Sports Cup.
American owners John Nelms and Tim Keyes have come under fire from sections of the support but Adam is totally convinced the club are in the right hands.
Speaking at the SPFL Season Kick-off Party, he said: 'I put full belief into what John and Tim and Gordon do as a supporter. I've been in the club so I know how hard it is and what they're trying to do.
"They're trying to build the club, a new stadium, and a training ground. But, you know, I'm a supporter. I don't put any money in.
"John and Tim put millions of pounds in and they have over the years. So they make the decision about what they feel is right for the football club.
"And if they feel that's the right decision, then we have to make sure that everybody keeps backing it and supports them.
"Hopefully the results can improve as the season goes on. But again, they have to get more players in.
"They have to improve the players. We lost a couple of good players in the summer - young players that went to other clubs, which was difficult.
"But it's all about recruitment. You get your recruitment good, then that will help you.
"Steven now has to try and do that, do some business early and hopefully they'll get the team ready for the start of the season.'

Edinburgh City have today been hit with a 15-point deduction by the Scottish Professional Football League relating to an insolvency event. The League Two side appointed a provisional liquidator in July this year, and league officials have reacted with a hefty punishment to leave City isolated at the foot of the table. An SPFL statement read: 'The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) has today confirmed the imposition of a 15-point deduction for Edinburgh City, as per SPFL rules on clubs suffering an insolvency event. This deduction follows a provisional liquidator being appointed in respect of the club on July 22 this year in relation to an unpaid debt due by the club. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'Similar to administration, the provisional appointment of a liquidator is an insolvency event under SPFL Rules. The William Hill League Two table has been updated accordingly.' Rule E1 of the SPFL rules and regulations states that 'where a club takes, suffers or is subject to a deductible insolvency event that club shall…be deducted 15 points and 5 points in the League in consecutive seasons'. City intend to appeal the decision and posted a comment on their social media channels. 'Edinburgh City FC hereby acknowledges the penalty imposed upon it by the SPFL this morning,' they said. 'The club will begin its appeal process immediately. No further comment will be made at this time.' Edinburgh City began their League Two campaign on Saturday with a 2-1 defeat against Stirling Albion at Meadowbank. Their Premier Sports Cup campaign ended miserably with 4-1 and 4-0 defeats against Partick Thistle and Queen of the South respectively. Following a 0-0 draw with Stranraer - City won 5-3 on penalties - the Capital side then suffered a demoralising 8-0 loss at Ross County. Russell Martin's Rangers rant blows the mind of body language expert who dishes out one-of-a-kind verdict
The Ibrox gaffer filleted his players in the aftermath of their Motherwell draw as they dropped points in the season opener Russell Martin ripped into his Rangers players as part of an astonishing TV blast after dropping points at Motherwell. It was another season opener for the Light Blues where they've failed to claim maximum points and the irate boss didn't hold back in his assessment of his squad as he promised to weed out the slackers and called out egos within his group. In the build-up to facing Viktoria Plzen in the crucial Champions League third qualifying round first leg showdown at Ibrox, the former Southampton boss told the media that his rant wasn't an attack on any individuals and for him honesty is the best policy. His post-match comments grabbed the headlines with his actions discussed by punters and debated wider on the likes of football radio shows as pundits, ex-pros and fans gave their views. Now body language expert Darren Stanton, known as the human lie detector, has delivered his verdict on the footage. Speaking to OLBG, he insisted that the Rangers boss was 'probably the most authentic and direct' manager he's assessed and says his words came from the heart and were genuine. He said: 'He wants to lay the law down and those that don't want to play ball in his own words can walk and sometimes you've just got to pull a scary face in life. 'It's nice to be nice but you've also got to stand up for yourself and defend your values and say what you think is wrong. 'If the fans get behind him and support his strategy to go in there and start kicking some arse then I do think heads will roll but it's all about leverage. 'No one person is bigger than the team, or at least that's the idea isn't it, so he has to control the framing and the narrative because at the end of the day he's the manager or the coach, especially if there's one or two players who run against that. 'I think out of all the managers I've been asked to assess, I think Martin is the most forthright and probably most authentic and direct I've seen in some time. He looks like the sort of man that's not going to suffer fools gladly at Rangers.' He continued: 'There's a lot of anger. His eyes are pulled together and pulled down. 'Martin was looking down and left for most of the interview, if you notice, which is what we call auditory internal dialogue. This happens in a split second. 'He's thinking very carefully about what he's saying but it does tell me that he's been genuinely authentic. 'He's speaking from the heart. If he was trying to manage the risk of what he's saying to the media we would see some bilateral shoulder shrugs, which is where one only shoulder moves. 'He seems genuine because he did lots of double shoulder shrugs. He's not trying to mask anything.' Mohamed Salah scores as Liverpool unleash £270m new signings against Athletic
Liverpool showcased £270 million-worth of new signings in the 3-2 friendly victory over Athletic Bilbao but the goals still went to established Premier League winners Mohamed Salah – who also missed a late penalty – and Cody Gakpo. Florian Wirtz's first look at Anfield gave fans a glimpse of why the club made him their – and with add-ons potentially a British – record signing with some clever touches and interplay and almost the opening goal. Advertisement Head coach Arne Slot believes the Germany international will replace the creativity they lost from the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid. 'I think there is always room for improvement in every department and we have added a few, in my opinion, extra weapons,' said the Dutchman. Hugo Ekitike relished his first experience of Anfield and cannot wait for much more after becoming a Red 👇 — Liverpool FC (@LFC) August 4, 2025 'Florian has a lot of creativity in the final third and we have lost with Trent a lot of creativity from the back. 'Trent's crosses and picking out runners was so special – Flo has this quality in a totally different position. He brings that creativity.' Advertisement Wirtz's fellow new signings also showed they were settling in well as Jeremie Frimpong linked up well with Salah, fellow full-back Milos Kerkez was solid and Hugo Ekitike showed flexibility across the forward line. Wirtz headed onto the crossbar before Ekitike crossed for Salah to fire home and Gakpo scored twice after the break after Oihan Sancet had levelled. Liverpool went into the double-header with just one recognised centre-back with Virgil van Dijk ill and Joe Gomez injured and looked vulnerable at set-pieces, with Maroan Sannadi heading an equaliser from a corner. 'The other games pre-season we have conceded a few too many chances but today we hardly conceded anything at all and that pleased me as well,' added Slot. Advertisement First appearances as Reds at Anfield for our summer arrivals ✊🔴 — Liverpool FC (@LFC) August 4, 2025 'So to concede two set-piece goals in the second game is not what you want, especially if you play Crystal Palace next week who are a team who are very strong on set-pieces. That's another thing to work on.' In both matches Diogo Jota, who died in a car crash last month, was remembered with fans standing and clapping and singing the forward's song. When the clock showed 20, action on the pitch also halted as players and officials joined in the applause. Liverpool's second string won 4-1 earlier, after an erroneous fire alarm had evacuated the Main Stand before kick-off, with 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha continuing his impressive pre-season form with a goal after just 87 seconds. Ben Doak, three years his senior, also scored while there were goals for Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott, two players whose futures appear to be away from Anfield. Advertisement Nunez, who has been linked with Al Hilal for a while with AC Milan also opening talks over the Uruguay international, thumped the badge on his shirt in front of the Kop while Elliott was the last to leave the pitch having blown kisses to all four sides of the ground.
