8th Pay Commission: How Much Salary Hike Will Central Govt Employees Get If Fitment Factor Is 2.86?
Last Updated:
8th Pay Commission: Expectations are high among government employees that the fitment factor, revised pay matrix, allowances, and pension structures will be finalised in 2025.
8th Pay Commission: The central government announced the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) in January this year, well before the current pay structure expires in December 2025. The upcoming commission is eagerly awaited by millions of central government employees and pensioners, as it is expected to revise pay and pension structures significantly.
According to reports, the government is already in the process of filling 42 key positions, including consultants and the chairperson of the 8th CPC. The new commission is expected to begin its work soon, once the Terms of Reference (ToR) are finalised. One of the key areas of focus will be the revision of the fitment factor, which plays a crucial role in determining salary and pension increases.
The 8th Pay Commission will revise salaries, pensions, and allowances, directly benefiting over 50 lakh central government employees and over 65 lakh pensioners.
What Is the Fitment Factor?
The fitment factor is a multiplier used to calculate the revised basic pay for central government employees when a new pay commission is implemented. It ensures uniform salary hikes during the transition from the old to the new pay structure.
Formula:
New Basic Pay = Old Basic Pay × Fitment Factor
Under the 7th Pay Commission, the fitment factor was set at 2.57. For instance, if an employee's basic pay was Rs 10,000 under the 6th CPC, their revised pay became:
If current basic pay = Rs 20,000
Then new basic pay = Rs 20,000 × 2.86 = Rs 57,200
This reflects a remarkable jump in take-home salary, especially compared to the hike seen during the previous pay commission.
(Note: These are estimated values assuming a uniform fitment factor.)
What Lies Ahead for Government Employees?
While the government has not yet made an official announcement, expectations are high that the fitment factor, revised pay matrix, allowances, and pension structures will be finalised in 2025. Employees are particularly keen to learn whether the 8th CPC will propose a uniform fitment factor across all levels, which could simplify salary structures and enhance fairness.
Until official announcements are made, government employees remain in anticipation, hoping that the 8th Pay Commission brings substantial financial relief in line with rising costs of living and inflation.

Israel Iran War 'US Used Up Its 20% Stock To Support Israel' Trump Netanyahu THAAD
The United States spent a total of 15 to 20 percent of its advanced anti-missile system Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) to strengthen defence against Iran's airstrikes during the 12-day conflict this month, which erupted after Israel launched a surprise attack on Tehran. According to Military Watch Magazine, between 60 to 80 THAAD interceptors were used during the conflict. A single launch of a THAAD interceptor costs between USD 12 million to 15 million (Rs 102 crore to 128 crore; as per today's exchange rate), which means the entire cost of the usage of these interceptors during the recent conflict falls between USD 810 million to USD 1.215 billion. Indian Railways Builds First 3D-Printed Gangman Hut In Andhra Pradesh In Just 25 Days
Last Updated: Speaking to News18, an official said that with 3D printing significantly reduced construction time and material waste, making it more environmentally friendly. In a first for Indian Railways, Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has completed the construction of a 3D-printed Gangman Hut at Parvatipuram station in Andhra Pradesh in just 25 days. This cutting-edge project marks the first-ever 3D-printed railway building in Indian Railways and Andhra Pradesh, the Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways announced on Thursday. The 1,076 sq ft (100 sq m) hut serves as a shelter for track maintenance staff, called gangmen, providing them with rest space, tool storage, and a work base. The station – located under the Waltair Division of the East Coast Railway Zone – falls under the ongoing Vizianagaram–Titlagarh third line project. This railway line aims to boost freight and passenger capacity, especially in light of growing industrial activity in the nearby regions. 'Unlike traditional brick-and-mortar construction, this Gangman Hut was created using a 3D concrete printer—a large robotic machine that prints structures layer by layer using specialised concrete materials. Advanced materials like Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) and Lightweight Concrete were used to enhance durability, reduce weight, and speed up the construction process," the statement added. Speaking to News18, an official said that with 3D printing significantly reduced construction time and material waste, making it more environmentally friendly. '3D printing allows advanced design capabilities by incorporating complex geometries, textured elevations, and wavy wall patterns that are difficult to achieve with traditional methods. The technology also allows a virtual 3D walkthrough for stakeholders to visualise the building before physical construction begins," they said, demanding anonymity. Both natural and artificial lighting were strategically integrated to enhance functionality and ambiance. This project will drastically change the way infrastructure is constructed in the nation by creating new opportunities for the widespread use of 3D printing in future station buildings, shelters, offices, and housing across Indian Railways and beyond, the RVNL added. Speaking about the technology, Pradeep Gaur, Chairman and Managing Director RVNL, said this initiative could pave the way for broader adoption of 3D printing in low-cost, quick-build infrastructure projects across India. 'RVNL has successfully demonstrated this modern construction technology. It represents a major step in modernising construction practices and highlights RVNL's commitment to deploying cutting-edge technologies for developing modern infrastructure. Such technologies will, therefore, be key contributors to fast-track project execution ensuring sustainability and cost-effectiveness, as we develop a future-ready infrastructure," he said.
