Female bodybuilding star dubbed 'She Hulk' is hammered to death in her Costa del Sol home before her US husband kills himself with a knife after the pair returned from Dubai contest
Colombian bodybuilding champion Zunilda Hoyos Mendez was found dead yesterday afternoon after detectives went to the property on an upmarket residential estate in the popular Spanish resort of Fuengirola.
The body of her partner, named as 46-year-old Jarrod Gelling, was found in a bathroom with what police have described in an initial statement as 'apparent self-inflicted stab wounds.'
Zunilda, who was also known online as Colombian She-Hulk, had been missing since Saturday after flying to the Costa del Sol from Dubai where the couple spent much of their time following a competition.
The dead woman's relatives described Jarrod overnight as 'aggressive' and said they believe he could have lashed out after she told him she wanted a divorce.
Zunilda's niece Yuleydis told Malaga-based newspaper Sur her aunt was going to help nurse Jarrod after a knee operation before travelling to Portugal for a competition.
After, she planned to head back to Colombia alone after making the decision to divorce him.
'For my aunt it was the last trip, a goodbye', niece Yuleydis said.
'She had taken the decision to split from her husband because of his aggressive behaviour.
'They had broken up already once and were apart for quite a while but then got back together again to try to resolve things, although the mistreatment continued.'
The couple's bodies were found just before 2pm yesterday inside a property on a residential estate called Higueron West after a gym companion of Zunilda's raised the alarm saying he hadn't seen her since June 14.
A National Police spokesman in Malaga said yesterday: 'The National Police is investigating the death of a man and woman found lifeless at a property in Fuengirola.
'In the absence of official identification of the bodies, initial inquiries are pointing to them being those of a 43-year-old woman of Colombian origin and her 46-year-old partner of American origin.
'Officers went to the property on a residential estate about 1.45pm after a friend of the woman whose body was found reported her disappearance on Wednesday at the National Police Station in Torremolinos.
'Her body showed obvious signs of violence and that of the man's signs indicating a suicide-type death which is something an autopsy will have to confirm.'
Although the suspected killer was said by police to be of 'American origin' he is believed to have dual Colombian and US nationality.
They were not on the Spanish police radar over previous reports of domestic violence.
If the woman's death is confirmed as a gender violence murder, it would be the third so far in the province of Malaga and the fifth in Southern Spain's Andalucia region.
Earlier this month a Spanish woman was strangled and beaten to death on waste ground behind a petrol station a short drive from Marbella. Her 47-year-old Bulgarian partner was arrested and remanded in custody.
In February a 48-year-old mum-of-three was allegedly killed by her 42-year-old Nigerian ex-partner in the popular Costa del Sol holiday resort of Benalmadena.
Spanish news website El Espanol reported overnight that as well as being a big name in the professional bodybuilding world, Zunilda also had more than 100,000 followers on Onlyfans and Fansly where it said she sold steamy videos as 'the naughtiest fitness girl.'
She finished second in the NPC Worldwide Latin American Championships in 2021.
Her coach Branden Rey said in an emotional Instagram post beside a photo of her flexing her muscles in a black bikini: 'We had 17 days until we were going to hit the stage and shock the world my friend.
'I told you that you could possibly be top 10 in the world by the end of this year and I meant it.
'Rest in paradise'.
In a second post he added: 'We were so close to the end but the closest person to you ended it too soon.
'Domestic violence should never be taken lightly, because it can leave many with a heavy heart.'
Bodybuilder friend and coach Behnaz Azar said in an online tribute: 'I don't know where to begin.
'My heart is broken, my mind is clouded, and my soul is drowning in shock and sorrow.
'Amy - my kind, strong, fierce friend.
'The most powerful woman I knew in the world of bodybuilding, yet with the gentlest heart.
'Your weren't just a friend, you were my sister, my teammate, my safe place. You were a part of me.
'We had dreams. Big ones. We were going to travel the world together, step onto the competition stage side by side, and chase the goals we poured our heart into.
'Now all that's left is silence, and a wound so deep I know it will never fully heal.
'The news of your murder shattered something inside me. It doesn't feel real. You didn't deserve this. No-one like you ever does.
'Amy, I will carry your memory with me always, in every rep, every journey, every moment my heart aches for you.
'Until we meet again, in a world kinder than this one. Rest in peace, my shining star.'

A woman has died after being allegedly stabbed by a man in Sydney 's western suburbs. Emergency services were called to a unit on Hemphill Avenue in Mount Pritchard, 34km west of the CBD, about 5.05pm on Sunday. Furkan Ada, 28, also known as Bruce Archer, was arrested at the scene. Another hopeful 'spotting' of triple daughter killer Travis Decker goes cold... as manhunt for murderer dwindles in size
Yet another potential sighting of accused killer Travis Decker has gone cold as officials in Washington state have begun scaling back their search efforts for the man accused of killing his three young daughters. Authorities in the state have been searching for the 33-year-old ever since his daughters - Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5 - were found strangled to death at a campsite outside Leavenworth, Washington in early June. It is now believed Decker, 33, dumped their bodies and his truck, and he has been wanted on murder charges since. There was a glimmer of hope on Friday, when the King County Sheriff's Office announced it had received a tip at around 6pm that the killer father was seen near Snoqualmie Pass and the Pacific Crest Trail area - about 55 miles from Seattle. 'As locating Decker is a priority, KCSO dispatched multiple patrol units, along with TAC-30, K9 Units and Guardian 1 to aid in the search,' the sheriff's office told KIRO. 'Neighboring law enforcement agents were notified as well.' But an extensive search for the former Army Ranger came up empty, and the search efforts were called off at around 9.15pm. The announcement came just days after the Chelan County Sheriff's Office - which initially led the search efforts - said it was scaling back its response after receiving fewer tips about Decker's possible whereabouts. Much of the search efforts have been focused on national forest areas and parts of the Pacific Crest Trail - which runs from the Canadian border in Washington all the way down to the Mexican border in California. The failed search this week follows a number of similar sightings that have not materialized, with officials admitting in June that a trove of evidence taken from his suspected hiding site did not match any of his DNA. Thus far, each effort to find and capture Decker - who is wanted on state and federal charges for murder and kidnapping - have ended in a dead end. Even a tip that Decker may be hiding out in Idaho proved to be false, with someone mistaking a local man for the wanted killer. As the search efforts now reach a third consecutive month, Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison suggested it is 'not likely' Decker is still alive and on the loose. 'His ability to go through that area and not be detected would have been challenging, let alone the challenges involved with him having to hike through all the snow that was up there toward the Pacific Crest Trail at the time,' he told reporters on Thursday. Still, he insisted to KHQ that the department remains 'optimistic' it will locate the accused killer, even if it is just his body. 'We still recognize we have a job to do,' Morrison said. He added that deputies 'are going through and making sure that we are covering our paths twice, sometimes three times, and also making sure that we are utilizing our search and rescue investigative units appropriately.' Yet some experts, including law enforcement and security analyst Todd McGhee, have said Decker's extensive military background may have enabled him to live in the wilderness undetected. He had joined the Army in 2013 and served in Afghanistan before transferring to the Washington National Guard in 2021, a communications director for the Washington Military Department previously confirmed to the Daily Mail. The Guard was in the process of a disciplinary discharge due to Decker's absences when his daughters were killed. He had been suffering from mental health issues at the time, and had recently been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. Decker was even court-mandated to receive mental health treatment and domestic violence anger management counseling but had refused. Police said he was also homeless and living out of his car by the time he picked up his three girls from their mother's house on May 30. Still, his ex-wife Whitney told police she didn't believe Decker was dangerous, and that he loved his daughters, with whom he had a 'good relationship.' However, dashcam footage from a May 27 traffic stop has added to the image of Decker's poor mental state at the time. Decker appeared in the 19-minute video with his arms crossed and a bored expression before he leaned on his car and then sat on the bumper. At one point, he could be seen resting his head on his truck bed as the other driver and police officer interact. After the incident, the other driver told KING 5, which obtained the video, that Decker appeared 'nervous and fidgety' and 'kept telling me not to call police' claiming he would go to jail over the accident. When the driver told Decker he had to call police to report the crash, he said the alleged killer's body language was 'almost intimidating.' 'I could tell he was not in his full senses,' the driver added. At the end of the video, Decker shook the driver's hand for nine seconds. When the driver tried to pull away, Decker continued asking if he was going to be okay, the driver said. The traffic stop happened three days before Decker picked up his daughters at their mother's house for the last time, according to police. Whitney called police after Decker failed to bring them back. She told cops he was 'quieter than usual' when he collected the girls, which was 'out of character' for him. His vehicle was eventually found on June 2, with his daughter's remains nearby. An ensuing autopsy then confirmed that the three girls died of suffocation and their deaths were ruled a homicide.

Beautiful 17-year-old girl's killer learns his fate after gunning her down steps from her home
The man who was accused of murdering a 17-year-old Long Beach girl who was walking home from her job at McDonald's has been sentenced to 358 years to life in prison. Troy Lamar Fox, 34, was convicted in March of first-degree murder for the killing of Briana Soto, a student who was gunned down just steps from her home. The jury also convicted him of four counts of attempted murder in a separate shooting on April 9, 2024, in which he opened fire on a car carrying four minors, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced Thursday. 'Briana Soto had her whole life ahead of her - she was getting ready for her prom, her 18th birthday, and graduation,' Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said. 'Today's sentence ensures the person who stole her future will never be free to harm another innocent person. While this punishment cannot undo the pain he caused, it is a step toward justice for Briana, her loved ones, and our community.' Lamar Fox was already in custody for an unrelated weapons violation when he was identified by Long Beach Police as the suspect who fatally shot Soto as she walked home from work. Soto was just outside her family's home on the evening of March 26 around 8:30pm when she was shot while on the phone with her mother. The teen's family heard the gunshots outside their home - rushing her to the hospital where she eventually succumbed to her injuries three days later. The suspect was caught on security footage moments after the shooting dressed in dark clothing with a mask covering his face. Long Beach Police investigated DNA, video and cell phone evidence before identifying Fox as the suspect who is believed to be involved in two other incidents on April 9 and July 7. On April 9, officers responded to a shots-fired call where a suspect, believed to be Fox, discharged a firearm in the direction of three juveniles and one adult in a vehicle. On July 7, cops arrived on the scene after a report of firearms inside of a vehicle. During the incident, officers located Fox and a juvenile suspect and later learned they were both prohibited possessors. Two firearms were recovered on the suspects and four firearms were recovered from the vehicle. Fox had an outstanding warrant for his arrest issued in November 2023 for violation of his parole terms. Following investigation into Soto's case, on September 11, detectives presented evidence to a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge and obtained an arrest warrant for Fox for the murder of the Long Beach teen. On September 13, cops took custody of Fox from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and booked him into the Long Beach City Jail. Police have not yet disclosed a motive behind the shootings.
