Queens Of The Stone Age's New Top 10 Is Unlike Anything The Band Has Released Before

Queens of the Stone Age's Alive in the Catacombs debuts at No. 10 on the Official Album Downloads ... More chart and No. 24 on the Rock & Metal Albums ranking in the U.K. FUENGIROLA, SPAIN - JUNE 23: Josh Homme of Queens Of The Stone Age performs on stage at Marenostrum on June 23, 2024 in Fuengirola, Spain. (Photo by Bianca de Vilar/Redferns) Queens of the Stone Age return to the music charts in the United Kingdom this week with a brand new project, and the group's latest EP is a special one. Alive in the Catacombs was not easy to create. It took a long time to get off the ground, and though the project only features a handful of tunes, it's clearly meaningful to the band — and to fans, who have collectively turned it into another bestselling effort for the rockers. Alive in the Catacombs Debuts Inside the Top 10 Alive in the Catacombs manages a top 10 start on the Official Album Downloads chart. On that ranking, the project enters at No. 10, just narrowly becoming the Grammy-nominated act's fifth top 10 success on the list of the most-purchased titles on platforms like iTunes. The EP also reaches the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart, which is focused specifically on those genres. Queens of the Stone Age kicks off its time on that roster at No. 24, snagging an eleventh career win. Queens Of The Stone Age's Unusual Concert Alive in the Catacombs was recorded almost exactly a year ago, in July 2024. As its name suggests, the EP features the band performing in the actual catacombs beneath the city of Paris. The group asked the city for permission several times and was initially rejected, but eventually the government relented, allowing Queens of the Stone Age to become the first musical act to perform live – legally, that is – within the eerie setting. The band released a film of the show, as well as a documentary titled Alive in Paris and Before, which details how the musicians prepared to play in such an unusual space and the process it took to get there. Queens Of The Stone Age's Upcoming Tour Queens of the Stone Age seems so captivated by this venture that later this year, the group will embark on The Catacombs Tour. Beginning in Chicago on October 2, the outing will feature only a handful of dates throughout the U.S. and Canada, with the band performing at special venues — though none will rival the ambiance of the Parisian catacombs.

‘Hitman' accused of murdering Lyons kingpins has drug driving charge dropped

PROSECUTORS dropped drug driving and speeding charges against the alleged hitman accused of murdering two Scots gangsters. Law chiefs ditched proceedings against Michael Riley, 44, after he was nicked and made the subject of an extradition bid by Spanish authorities. 3 3 3 Riley, of Huyton, Liverpool, was due to appear at North Wales Magistrates Court tomorrow in connection with the alleged driving offences. But the Crown Prosecution Service (SPS) decided to discontinue the case on Tuesday, June 17, four days after Riley was arrested in Liverpool. A court service spokeswoman confirmed a 'notice to withdraw' the charges was lodged and rubber-stamped last week. We told how Riley plans to fight extradition over the murders of Ross Monaghan, 43, and Eddie Lyons Jnr, 46, in Fuengirola on May 31. Cops in Spain issued an international arrest warrant for the suspect who was then nabbed by Merseyside police on June 13 and remanded in custody after being deemed a flight risk. He appeared at the London court via videolink from HMP Wandsworth on Thursday but the hearing was halted due to technical difficulties. Judge John Bristow told him: 'You have not consented to your extradition, so there is going to be a hearing on October 9. As he was being led away, Riley shouted at someone in the public gallery: 'Stop making funny faces. Stop looking at me.' He is accused of gunning down two Lyons gang bosses. We told how the doomed pair were drinking in Monaghans bar after watching the Champions League final when a masked gunman stormed the boozer in front of horrified holidaymakers and staff. 'Hitman' accused of murdering gang kingpins Ross Monaghan & Eddie Lyons Junior in Spain will fight extradition The brazen killings sparked an international manhunt that ended with Riley's arrest at an address in Liverpool two weeks later. We also told how cops in Spain and Scotland have given conflicting information about who is believed to have ordered the hit. Three days after the horror, Police Scotland stated they had "no intelligence" to suggest they were linked to the ongoing gangland turf war here. But Spanish counterparts blamed the Daniel crime clan bitter rivals of the Lyons at a press conference in Malaga this week. A source claims a captured mobile phone holds the key to proving the culprits. Insiders allege it has data linking Riley to Daniel hoods. A gangland source said: "A phone in a crime like this is gold-dust to investigators. It appears that Police Scotland were not made aware of this discovery and are out the loop. It's not a good look for them."

'She-Hulk' bodybuilder found battered to death in suspected murder-suicide

A female bodybuilder dubbed the She-Hulk was beaten to death with a hammer by her muscleman husband in a suspected murder-suicide in a Spanish resort. Colombian weightlifting champion Zunilda Hoyos Mendez, who also went by the name Amy, was found dead Thursday afternoon in upmarket Fuengirola. Detectives said her 46-year-old partner, Jarrod Gelling, was found dead in a bathroom with 'apparent self-inflicted stab wounds.' Zunilda had been missing since last Saturday after flying to the Costa del Sol from Dubai, where the couple reportedly spent much of their time. Her relatives described Jarrod as 'aggressive' and said they believe he could have lashed out after she told him she wanted a divorce. Zunilda's niece Yuleydis told Malaga-based newspaper Sur her aunt was going to help nurse Jarrod after a knee operation before traveling to Portugal for a competition. After, she planned to head back to Colombia alone after making the decision to divorce him. 'For my aunt it was the last trip, a goodbye', niece Yuleydis said. 'She had taken the decision to split from her husband because of his aggressive behavior. 'They had broken up already once and were apart for quite a while but then got back together again to try to resolve things, although the mistreatment continued.' The couple's bodies were found just before 2pm Thursday inside a property on a residential estate called Higueron West after a gym companion of Zunilda's raised the alarm, saying he hadn't seen her since June 14. A National Police spokesman in Malaga said: 'The National Police is investigating the death of a man and woman found lifeless at a property in Fuengirola. 'In the absence of official identification of the bodies, initial inquiries are pointing to them being those of a 43-year-old woman of Colombian origin and her 46-year-old partner of American origin. 'Officers went to the property on a residential estate about 1.45pm after a friend of the woman whose body was found reported her disappearance on Wednesday at the National Police Station in Torremolinos. 'Her body showed obvious signs of violence and that of the man's signs indicating a suicide-type death which is something an autopsy will have to confirm.' Although the suspected killer was said by police to be of 'American origin' he is believed to have dual Colombian and U.S. nationality. They were not on the Spanish police radar over previous reports of domestic violence. If the woman's death is confirmed as a gender violence murder, it would be the third so far in the province of Malaga and the fifth in Southern Spain's Andalucia region this year. Earlier this month a Spanish woman was strangled on waste ground behind a gas station a short drive from Marbella. Her 47-year-old Bulgarian partner was arrested. In February a 48-year-old mom of three was allegedly killed by her 42-year-old Nigerian ex-partner in the popular Costa del Sol holiday resort of Benalmadena. Spanish news website El Espanol reported that as well as being a big name in the professional bodybuilding world, Zunilda also had more than 100,000 followers on Onlyfans and Fansly where it said she sold steamy videos as 'the naughtiest fitness girl.' She finished second in the NPC Worldwide Latin American Championships in 2021. Her coach Branden Rey said in an emotional Instagram post beside a photo of her flexing her muscles in a black bikini: 'We had 17 days until we were going to hit the stage and shock the world my friend. 'I told you that you could possibly be top 10 in the world by the end of this year and I meant it. 'Rest in paradise'. In a second post he added: 'We were so close to the end but the closest person to you ended it too soon. 'Domestic violence should never be taken lightly, because it can leave many with a heavy heart.' Bodybuilder friend and coach Behnaz Azar said in an online tribute: 'I don't know where to begin. 'My heart is broken, my mind is clouded, and my soul is drowning in shock and sorrow. 'Amy - my kind, strong, fierce friend. 'The most powerful woman I knew in the world of bodybuilding, yet with the gentlest heart. 'Your weren't just a friend, you were my sister, my teammate, my safe place. You were a part of me. 'We had dreams. Big ones. We were going to travel the world together, step onto the competition stage side by side, and chase the goals we poured our heart into. 'Now all that's left is silence, and a wound so deep I know it will never fully heal. 'The news of your murder shattered something inside me. It doesn't feel real. You didn't deserve this. No one like you ever does. 'Amy, I will carry your memory with me always, in every rep, every journey, every moment my heart aches for you. 'Until we meet again, in a world kinder than this one. Rest in peace, my shining star.'
