Support from Hindu outfits boosts DK Shivakumar's Cauvery Aarti project
Mandya: The government's ambitious Cauvery Aarti and KRS Amusement Park project, spearheaded by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, continues to face stiff resistance from farmer groups, progressive activists, and sections of the opposition. However, in a significant turn of events, prominent leaders of Hindu organizations have now thrown their weight behind the initiative.
While protests erupted recently after the government began groundwork on the Cauvery riverfront development, the latest endorsement from Hindu leaders has shifted the narrative, offering political backing to Shivakumar's dream project.
Speaking to the media, Manjunath, State Vice-President of a federation of pro-Hindu groups, lauded DK Shivakumar and Minister Cheluvarayaswamy for conceptualizing the Cauvery Aarti. 'We stand by the Congress government on this issue. We want a unique and culturally significant Cauvery Aarti, different from the Ganga Aarti,' he said.
Interestingly, the same Hindu groups have warned the government against abandoning the project due to pressure from farmer unions and progressive activists. 'If the government backs down due to protests by fake, self-serving activists, we will launch a counter-movement,' Manjunath cautioned.
Despite opposition from leaders like HD Kumaraswamy—who publicly criticized the proposed Rs100 crore expenditure for the project—the Hindu leaders argue that the initiative promotes cultural heritage, boosts tourism, generates employment, and uplifts the local economy.
'Even if the cost exceeds Rs200 crore, the Cauvery Aarti must be executed. This is a symbol of our tradition and pride,' Manjunath insisted, urging the government to ignore opposition and proceed with the plan.

He added that those supporting the INDIA bloc were once victims of the Emergency. "Back then, some of them went to jail under Indira Gandhi's regime. Today they are aligning with the same Congress party. Jayaprakash ji gave the slogan of Sampoorna Kranti to overthrow the Congress. Lalu was with him then. Now he stands with the Congress that insulted JP," Paswan said. The Hajipur MP also hit out at RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, mocking his promise to bring change in 20 months if elected. "He should first return the land he got in exchange for jobs during his father Lalu Prasad's tenure as railway minister," he said. Paswan recalled his 2020 slogan 'Bihar First, Bihari First' and said it had caused discomfort to many back then. "Now that I'm returning to Bihar, their discomfort has only grown. Every drop of my blood is for Bihar. As long as Chirag Paswan is alive, there is no threat to the Constitution or to reservation," he said, urging voters to re-elect the NDA in Bihar.

Union Minister for Food Processing Industries and LJP (RV) chief Chirag Paswan on Sunday said that the 2025 Bihar elections will decide 'our political future for coming five years'. He was addressing a gathering at a rally titled 'Bahujan Bhim Sankalp Samagam' at Rajgir in CM Nitish Kumar's home district Nalanda on Sunday. Chirag also reiterated his desire to contest the Assembly elections. 'Many people are jittery that I want to come to Bihar. They are trying to know whether I will be contesting elections here. I wish to tell them, I want to contest Assembly polls for the sake of Bihar. So that my dream of 'Bihar First, Bihari First' is realised,' he said while assuring the gathering that no one could dare to do away with reservation until he was there. Chirag hit out at Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, asking him to apologise for the Emergency. He questioned RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav how he could side with the perpetrators of Emergency during which his father Lalu Prasad was ill-treated. This was Chirag's second big rally in the state after the one held in Arrah on June 8 in the election year. Chirag hailed the turnout, saying: 'The kind of enthusiasm and support you have shown makes it clear that we are going to realise our goals of 'Bihar First, Bihari First'.
