Princess Charlotte celebrates Lionesses Euros win with royal first

Princess Charlotte joined her father Prince William in cheering England's women to victory at the Euro 2025 final on Sunday (27.07.25). The 10-year-old royal was seen animatedly cheering along the Lionesses against Spain at St Jakobs-Park in Basel, Switzerland and after they eventually clinched victory in a penalty shootout, the young princess sent one of her first social media posts signed with her own name to congratulate the side. A statement from Charlotte and William - who is president of the English FA - read: "What a game! Lionesses, you are the champions of Europe. We couldn't be prouder of the whole team. Enjoy this moment England. W and Charlotte." Willian's father, King Charles, praised Sarina Weigman's side for their "sporting skill and awesome teamwork" - and challenged them to win the next World Cup following their consecutive two victories in the Euros. He said in a statement released after the game: 'This brings you, your manager and all your support team my most heartfelt congratulations on winning the Euros 2025. 'For more years than I care to remember, England fans have sung that famous chant 'football's coming home'. 'As you return home with the trophy you won at Wembley three years ago, it is a source of great pride that, through sporting skill and awesome teamwork, the Lionesses have made those words ring true. 'For this, you have my whole family's warmest appreciation and admiration. 'More than that, though, you have shown through your example over past weeks that there are no setbacks so tough that defeat cannot be transformed into victory, even as the final whistle looms. 'Well done, Lionesses.' Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who was also in attendance at the game, called the team "history makers". He posted on X: 'Champions! Congratulations Lionesses – what a team. What a game. What drama. 'You dug deep when it mattered most and you've made the nation proud. History makers.' Downing Street are to host a special reception for the Lionesses on Monday (28.07.25) to mark their "momentous achievement", with the event hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and sports minister Stephanie Peacock. The England team will take part in an open-top bus tour through central London on Tuesday (29.07.25) to celebrate their win, culminating in a ceremony outside Buckingham Palace. Fans can attend for free and it will also be broadcast on TV. The win saw the Lionesses become only the second women's team after Germany to retain a European Championship and the first England soccer side to win a major trophy away from home.
