The most Browns snafu ever happened at their new helmet reveal

Yahoo23-07-2025
Someone took "Mistake by the Lake" a little too literally.
This is the kind of thing that somehow makes perfect sense to have happened to the Cleveland Browns.
They set up a cool event on Wednesday to unveil their new alternate helmets. The predominantly brown look will be a slick addition to Cleveland's uniforms.
But at the unveiling, things didn't go exactly as planned.
The Browns had a platform set up on the edge of Lake Erie, with a cover over an outsized version of the new helmet.
As the cover was removed, a photographer on the corner of the platform got into position for a photo.
But a couple sideways steps went a foot too far, and the photographer plunged into the lake.

That very well may be an omen for how this Browns season is shaping up.
They're currently locked into maybe the NFL's only ever four-QB competition for the starting job. They're bringing some controversy to the city as they try to build a new stadium in the suburbs. And well, they just might not be very good.
This probably won't be the last time the Browns' season feels more like it's sinking than swimming.

Commanders QB Daniels finding connections with Samuel, receivers as McLaurin continues hold-in

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Commanders' seventh training camp practice, all without hold-in wide receiver Terry McLaurin, occurred during another punishing wave of summer heat. The kind that can make a day feel much longer. Jayden Daniels did not appreciate a calendar reality check. 'It's only been a week?' the quarterback said. Washington's fans know all about time moving slowly and the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year's arrival last season allowed them to quickly re-engage. The Commanders' stunning 2024 season culminated in the franchise's first NFC championship game appearance since the 1991 season. One fan brought a handmade sign to Thursday's practice that summed up the mood shift across the fan base: 'Thank you #5 Jayden for making it fun again to be a fan.' Expectations are high thanks to the electric playmaker. To stay in contention, Daniels needs to build chemistry with a revamped receiver group — especially since McLaurin has yet to practice while in a contract standoff. Deebo Samuel, acquired this offseason for a 2025 fifth-round pick, already looks in sync with Daniels. The veteran receiver has made a big play in nearly every session, whether on a deep shot — such as Thursday's corner-of-the-end-zone pass — or a crossing route where he turns a short pass into a longer gain. Film study and practice reps help with timing. But Daniels also values building trust beyond the playbook. 'I try to connect with each and every guy in the locker room,' said Daniels, who has become more vocal entering Year 2. 'That's where it all starts. Once you start with that, then you're able to move on to the field — get to know how the guy works, what type of person he is.' Samuel, 29, had 1,405 yards and 77 receptions in 2021. He hasn't topped 60 catches or 900 yards since, slowed by injuries and inconsistency. But his confidence hasn't dipped. 'I still got a lot in the tank,' Samuel said. Having Daniels throwing him the ball helps. 'It's real fun,' Samuel said. 'It's real fun.' The admiration runs both ways. 'The guy is a pro, and he works hard,' Daniels said. 'I just go out there and try to communicate, 'This is what I want versus this look, versus this coverage.' And he goes out there, puts in the work, and understands it.' Fourth-rounder Jaylin Lane is another wide receiver thriving in camp, and Daniels has maintained his red zone connection with tight end Zach Ertz. Dan Quinn sees another difference. The second-year Commanders head coach praised Daniels for becoming more assertive. Quinn highlighted a post-play conversation with tight end Ben Sinnott after a blitz-beating throw. 'The communication's the main thing,' Quinn said. 'If you see it, say it.' That communication doesn't extend to the field with McLaurin — not yet. The veteran wideout reported to camp Sunday after skipping the first four practices and parts of the offseason program. He remains on the physically unable to perform list with an ankle injury while contract talks continue. Daniels, who formed one of the league's most successful passing combos with McLaurin last season, isn't sweating the timeline. 'I know that time will come,' he said of McLaurin eventually rejoining the offense. 'Till then, if that's us getting in the film room and just talking ... we always talk. We talk ball. We talk life. So nothing's changed at all.' ___ AP NFL:

Why you shouldn't be afraid to draft Christian McCaffrey

Yahoo Sports fantasy analyst Matt Harmon and Establish the Run's fantasy analyst John Diagle implore fantasy managers to draft running back Christian McCaffrey, despite all the injuries he endured last year. Hear the full conversation on the 'Yahoo Fantasy Forecast' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript I do just want to give you the floor to implore people why they should take Christian McCaffrey. Because I, I know that in our bubble, Dale, like we know how good he is and how impactful a player he is, but there's gonna be a section of people watching this show right now or listening to this podcast and saying, I'm never taking this guy again after what happened last year. Tell the people like you think that is a mistake. He's the only running back who has had 2. 1+ points per game in multiple seasons, the last three years, not even Saquon Barkley accomplished that. And as we saw last year, even when he returned and was not at full strength, he outtouched Jordan Mason 42 to 3 in those games. They are not going to use anyone else and it's a conversation like we had with Will Fuller whenever he was still at the tail end of his prime, when people are more scared of the injury. But you shouldn't be asking that. You should be asking when you're not injured, can you win me your my league? And Christian McCaffrey literally breaks fantasy football as the RB one when he's healthy. And now you can get that guy at the back of the first round solely for recency bias. So, I am back in one more time with Christian McCaffrey as a hero, anchor RB build, and then that first 2nd round turn is where you can then take someone like Nico Collins, I know, I listen to Matt Harmon shows. I know Nico Collins is a personal favorite of both of ours, but Malik Neighbors is some time there as well, as we talked about earlier, Drake London is someone who should be going higher, someone I'm very high on as someone who could break out as a potential wide receiver one. So you can go RB wide receiver to start, and then come back around and see who's left over. But Christian McCaffrey, if you're in the back end, I think you should just be building your entire lineup around him. Close
