Trump says Israel has agreed to 'necessary conditions' to finalise 60-day ceasefire in Gaza

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Israel has agreed to the "necessary conditions" to finalise a 60-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
According to Anadolu Ajansi, Trump in a post on his Truth Social platform, said his representatives held a "long and productive meeting" with Israeli officials earlier in the day.
"Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalise the 60 Day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the War," he wrote.
He added that Qatar and Egypt, the mediators in the ceasefire talks, would deliver the "final proposal" to the Palestinian group Hamas.
"I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE," Trump said.
Earlier in the day, Trump told reporters that he hopes a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip will be reached "sometime next week."
He said he will discuss Gaza and Iran with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu next week in Washington, DC.
"He's coming here. We're going to talk about a lot of things. We're going to talk about the great success we had in Iran...We're also going to talk about Gaza," he added. – BERNAMA

Illegal border crossings in Kelantan raise serious security concerns, says deputy MB

KOTA BARU: The presence of dozens of illegal crossings along the Kelantan-Thailand border has raised serious national security concerns, said Kelantan Deputy Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan. He emphasised that Kelantan's border is an integral part of Malaysia's international boundary with Thailand and must be protected with utmost vigilance. "The border spans approximately 105km, with most of it covering Sungai Golok, which separates Kelantan from Thailand's Narathiwat province. "There are only three official entry points, namely Rantau Panjang, Bukit Bunga and Pengkalan Kubor. However, behind these checkpoints lie dozens of illegal crossings frequently used for cross-border activities,' he said in a statement on his official Facebook page on Saturday (July 5). Mohamed Fadzli also noted that the region's geography and close familial ties between communities on both sides of the border further heighten its vulnerability to security threats. In light of this, the state government stressed the need to strengthen border enforcement through increased personnel deployment, enhanced security assets and coordinated efforts among all relevant agencies. He added that the state government is fully committed to working together to ensure the nation's borders remain secure. "This is a shared responsibility to safeguard our sovereignty, protect public safety and secure the future of our nation,' he said.- Bernama

Comparing this to "crabs in a bucket", he said all members should instead work together to strengthen the party's internal security for the survival of the party ahead of the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16). "Don't be like crabs in a bucket... all the crabs want to get out, but step on the others so that they can climb up. "In the end, not a single one comes out, all die in the bucket. Why are we dying in a bucket because we trample on each other?" he asked at the closing of the Segamat Umno division delegates meeting at the Taman Yayasan Multipurpose Hall, here Saturday (July 5). Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, stressed that the culture of pointing fingers and assuming that only one is right will only break the people's confidence in Umno. "Any differences of opinion among members must be expressed in a civilized and ethical manner, especially when discussing internal party issues. "If today we are small leaders, God willing one day we can become big leaders, but if we are rude to others today, when we rise, more people will be rude to us," he said. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, also called on the entire Umno machinery to remain focused on efforts to strengthen unity among the grassroots and not make differences of opinion a cause for division. Also present were Johor Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Segamat Umno chief Datuk Zahari Sarip. - Bernama

ASEAN security agendas for September meeting in Melaka

SEMPORNA: A total of 10 security agendas will form the consensus and focus of discussions at the ASEAN Ministers' Meeting on Security in Melaka in September. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who will chair the meeting, said among the topics to be discussed are tackling cross-border crimes, intelligence sharing, capacity building and joint operations. 'To tackle cross-border crimes, we will leverage our ASEAN Chairmanship this year as the best platform to exchange information and ideas that can be developed into strategies for effectively addressing security issues,' he said. He told reporters this after the Security Briefing and Monitoring Programme with the Home Minister and Foreign Delegates here today. According to Saifuddin, the three-day meeting would be fully utilised at the ASEAN ministerial level to present and discuss ASEAN security issues for the common interest. 'We can see certain things, but there are also some things we can't see, but our neighbours (neighbouring countries) can. These are among the matters that can be presented at the ASEAN meeting,' he said. - Bernama
