Director Ashwin Kumar On Mahavatar Narsimha: ‘Our Gods Are The True Heroes Of Bharat'
Director Ashwin Kumar says Mahavatar Narsimha will revive Dharma and Shastric learning. The film releases in 3D and five languages on July 25, 2025. Filmmaker Ashwin Kumar is on a mission—not just to make a movie, but to reawaken a cultural consciousness that he believes has been fading for generations. As the director of the upcoming mythological epic Mahavatar Narsimha, Kumar is steering a cinematic journey deeply rooted in India's spiritual and philosophical legacy, hoping to bring children and young adults closer to their Dharma. 'Since Bharat was colonized, we must end our mental colonization by reviving Shastric studies, even without the traditional Gurukul system," Kumar stated. 'It is crucial that the younger generation learns about the various darshans, perspectives, narratives, and themes of our theology and texts in schools. Parents today are busy, and children remain uneducated in these matters, often forming confused ideas and feeling disconnected or even ashamed of their own Dharma." For Kumar, Mahavatar Narsimha is more than a retelling of Lord Vishnu's fourth avatar—it's a tribute to the timeless wisdom of India's ancient scriptures. He envisions the film as a tool for cultural and spiritual revival, especially for those who have grown up in an educational system that rarely touches upon the country's rich mythological and theological heritage. 'Educating them properly will instill pride in our culture and heritage," he said. 'Our Mahavatar Narsimha represents this legacy, a tribute to our Shastras and Dharma, bringing them back to the mainstream. Our Gods are the true heroes, and by engraving their stories in the minds of the youth, we help them find pride, understanding, logical clarity, and inner peace through our sacred texts." The film marks the beginning of a decade-long animated franchise presented by Hombale Films and Kleem Productions. The ambitious series will chronicle the ten divine avatars of Lord Vishnu, with the release roadmap laid out as follows: Mahavatar Narsimha (2025), Mahavatar Parshuram (2027), Mahavatar Raghunandan (2029), Mahavatar Dhawkadhesh (2031), Mahavatar Gokulananda (2033), and the two-part finale, Mahavatar Kalki Part 1 (2035) and Part 2 (2037). Mahavatar Narsimha, produced by Shilpaa Dhawan, Kushal Desai, and Chaitanya Desai under Kleem Productions and presented by the powerhouse Hombale Films, promises to blend visual spectacle with spiritual substance. Set to release in 3D and across five Indian languages, the film will hit theatres on 25th July 2025. First Published: July 17, 2025, 12:33 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Ahaan Panday Wasn't Cast For Saiyaara Based On Audition, Says Mohit Suri: 'After A Couple Of Drinks...'
Mohit Suri reveals Ahaan Panday's audition for Saiyaara didn't impress him, but a night out changed everything. 'He was standing on the bar—that's when I saw him,' says Suri. News18 Director Mohit Suri, who famously launched Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur with Aashiqui 2, is returning to his romantic roots with Saiyaara—a film that almost had a very different trajectory. The film, which marks the debut of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, was originally conceptualised with stars in mind. But in a recent podcast interview with Cyrus Broacha, Suri revealed how a pivotal conversation with YRF boss Aditya Chopra completely changed the film's course. 'Aditya sir asked me, 'Why aren't you looking at new actors for this?' I told him I didn't think it would be feasible," Suri said. 'But he said this film should only be made with fresh faces." Encouraged by Chopra's vision, Suri began auditioning newcomers. However, Ahaan Panday's first impression didn't quite blow him away. 'I auditioned a lot of people for Saiyaara. Honestly, I didn't really care much about Ahaan's audition," Suri admitted. 'There was something about the guy, though. I thought, 'Let's go out for dinner.' So, he takes me to this formal place and he's really behaving himself…" Still not convinced, Suri decided to dig deeper. 'I get him a couple of drinks down, and then he's taken me to some place in South Bombay with all these kids. And then I see the real Ahaan Panday. He's standing on the bar, dancing. And I'm like, 'This is the guy I want for my film.' That's the audition that got him selected." Speaking about the casting process in general, Suri reflected, 'It's not always related to your talent, or how well you did the shot. It's just what the director is looking for that day." Set to release this Friday, Saiyaara is being described by Suri as 'an old-school romantic drama that isn't made often these days." Despite starring fresh faces, the film is already tracking strongly at the box office. With advance bookings crossing Rs 4 crore, Saiyaara is projected to open in double digits—a rare feat for a debut-led film. For comparison, Loveyapa managed to collect Rs 10 crore in its entire run, while Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan hasn't even crossed the Rs 5 crore mark. Backed by Yash Raj Films and helmed by a director who knows how to craft emotion-packed romances, Saiyaara might just be the surprise hit of the season.
