Congress MP and leader Shashi Tharoor has taken a dig at Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir's lunch meeting with US President Donald Trump.
Commenting on the White House reporting that Munir nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, Tharoor said, 'According to the White House, this general had said that the president should get the Nobel peace prize, and then he was rewarded with a lunch. I hope the food was good and he has also got some food for thought in the process.'

Trump and Munir reportedly discussed a wide range of topics, including India and Pakistan, wherein the Pakistani general expressed his gratitude to the president for preventing a potential nuclear war following the Pahalgam terror attack.
On Trump's mediation claims, Tharoor said, 'We welcome any pressure the US may have on Pakistan. But we did not ask for it. We did not request anyone's mediation.'
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a phone call with Trump on Wednesday, where he rejected his claims of US mediation.
'Working on trade deals with India, Pak'
After their luncheon meeting, Trump said, 'The reason I had him here was I wanted to thank him for not going into the war and ending the war. Prime Minister Modi just left a little while ago, and we are working on a trade deal with India.'
The president further said that his administration is also working on reaching a trade deal with Pakistan, adding that he is 'very happy' that 'two very smart people decided not to keep going with the war.'
The White House has confirmed that the meeting was arranged in response to Munir's public remarks praising Trump's role in de-escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed countries.
'They know Iran better than most'
The duo also discussed the ongoing situation in West Asia triggered by Israel's strikes against Iran and the following retaliatory attacks.
'They know Iran very well, better than most, and they're not happy about anything. They see what's going on. And he agreed with me,' Trump said.

Bitcoin Hits Record High Of $120,000 As Bullish Momentum Builds

Bitcoin breached $120,000 for the first time, with investor optimism increasing almost daily after it emerged from a narrow trading range that had left skeptics wondering whether the original cryptocurrency would regain the record-breaking momentum seen at the start of the year. After surging on the election of Donald Trump to a second US presidential term, Bitcoin had settled into a pattern of fluctuating on either side of $100,000 for several months. Concern about Trump's political and economic policies had helped to temper optimism over the pro-crypto agenda of his administration. Now with other risk assets such as stocks back around record highs, Bitcoin has also resumed its push higher. "This shift signals a maturing perspective on Bitcoin - not merely a speculative asset, but a macro hedge and a structurally scarce store of value," said George Mandres, senior trader at XBTO Trading LLC. "A surge in risk-on sentiment across equities, coupled with significant institutional inflows into spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, has fueled this steady ascent, notably absent the sharp volatility of previous bull runs." The crypto market bellwether rose as much as 1.9% to $121,344, and is now up about 30% since December. Bitcoin more than doubled last year. Bitcoin's renewed momentum has also spilled over to smaller tokens - second-ranked Ether rose 1.5%, while XRP and Solana both increased about 2.7% around noon in Singapore on Monday. "Bitcoin's cleared $120,000, but the real test is $125,000," said Rachael Lucas, a crypto analyst at BTC Markets. While short-term profit booking can be expected, "the uptrend has fuel" driven by strong demand from exchange traded funds, she added. "Support at $112,000 and any dip looks like a buying opportunity, not a reversal." Helping to fuel the latest rally was the liquidation of bearish crypto bets at the end of the week. Traders who shorted Bitcoin bore the brunt of the rapid damage, with over $1 billion in positions wiped out, according to data from Coinglass. The token rose on the back of anticipation for what a Congressional committee dubbed "Crypto Week," where lawmakers in the US Congress are expected to debate and possibly vote on key cryptocurrency legislation. Some analysts aren't totally sold on the token's continued rise. "In my view, this isn't a macro-driven rally, but rather an isolated event," said Nicolai Sondergaard, a research analyst at Nansen. "That said, recent US policy developments such as fiscal expansion and expectations of further monetary easing have created a backdrop that is undeniably favorable for Bitcoin."

National Sports Governance Bill to be tabled in monsoon session: Mandaviya

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday said the long-awaited National Sports Governance Bill will be tabled in Parliament during the monsoon session beginning July 21. The minister, while speaking to the media on the sidelines of an event to launch department of youth affairs' initiatives against drug addiction, also reiterated the government's position that Pakistani athletes will not be stopped from coming to India for multi-lateral sporting engagements. "The bill will be tabled in the Parliament during the upcoming session. I will give more details in a couple of days," Mandaviya said. The bill seeks to ensure greater accountability for the country's sports administrators with the provision of a regulatory board which would have the power to grant recognition and decide funding to National Sports Federations (NSFs) based on their adherence to provisions related to good governance. The board will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with the highest governance, financial, and ethical standards. In addition, the draft sports bill proposes the establishment of Ethics Commissions and Dispute Resolution Commissions to ensure transparency in governance. It has been debated for a long time and has even been opposed by the Indian Olympic Association, which feels that a regulatory board would undermine its standing as the nodal body for all NSFs. Mandaviya reasserted the government's position that Pakistan's participation in international sports engagements in India won't be stopped despite the turbulent relations that have further deteriorated in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack in April. Next month's men's Asia Cup hockey tournament (Bihar), the FIH Junior World Cup in November-December (Tamil Nadu) and the junior shooting World Cup (New Delhi) in September-October are the major events where Pakistani participation is expected. "Our stand is clear. We don't have any problems playing with Pakistan in any international sporting event, be it cricket, hockey or any other sport. But when it comes to bilateral engagements, the government position is known to all," Mandaviya said. The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has sought clearance from its government for participation in the two tournaments in India, but there is no clarity on whether it has been granted. "We have told Pakistan that we will grant them visas for the Asia Cup and Junior World Cup hockey tournaments but it is up to their government now to decide whether to send teams or not. We have no problem," the sports minister said. "Both are international tournaments and every team participating will be accorded the same treatment." The Asia Cup will be held in Rajgir from August 27 to September 7, while the Junior World Cup is scheduled from November 28 to December 10. The government's decision to allow Pakistan is based on the Olympic Charter which prohibits denial of participation due to political reasons. Such an act can lead to suspension of future hosting rights for that country. India are currently in the race to the host the 2036 Olympic Games and the 2030 Commonwealth Games.

The audit report points to instances of corruption during 2023, when the board was under the leadership of Mohsin Naqvi and Zaka Ashraf. Among the key findings is the misappropriation of 63.39 million Pakistani rupees paid to police for providing meals during international match security duties. The report also highlights the unauthorized hiring of three under-16 coaches at the Karachi High Performance Centre, which resulted in salary payouts of 5.4 million rupees.
