DJ Akademiks says Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR's $$$4U gets no radio play due to Drake's UMG feud

Express Tribune01-03-2025
Hip-hop commentator DJ Akademiks has sparked debate by claiming that Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR's latest album, 'Some $exy $ongs 4 U', is receiving little to no radio play due to Drake's ongoing issues with Universal Music Group (UMG).
In a post on X on February 28, 2025, Akademiks wrote, 'The reason why $$$4U by Drake and Partynextdoor received no radio play so far is because of Drake's issues at UMG.'
He explained that the album was released under two labels—Republic Records, a UMG subsidiary, and Santa Anna Group—and that a deal had to be negotiated to resolve promotion conflicts.
'Only 2 songs from the album will be promoted on radio... Labels have deals with radio stations and a deal between the two had to be negotiated before Drake received any airplay. This is how everybody gets to eat off Drake,' Akademiks concluded.
The reason why $$$4U by Drake and Partynextdoor received no radio play so far is because of Drakes issues at UMG and how the album was released under 2 labels Republic (which is UMG who Drake is suing) and Santa Anna Group and which labels get to promote the singles. The tension between Drake and UMG stems from a 2024 lawsuit in which the rapper accused the label of unlawfully promoting Kendrick Lamar's song 'Not Like Us'.
Akademiks suggested that this rift has impacted the promotion of 'Some $exy $ongs 4 U', with only two tracks, 'Gimme a Hug' and 'Somebody Loves Me', being pushed by Republic Records and Santa Anna Group, respectively.
Despite the limited radio play, Akademiks praised the album, particularly the track 'Nokia', which he predicted would be a Top 5 hit. However, after the song dropped to #13 on the Billboard charts, he accused UMG of manipulation, stating, 'If this song don't go top 5, that's UMG.'
As of now, neither Drake nor UMG has publicly addressed Akademiks' claims, leaving fans and industry insiders speculating about the true impact of the legal battle on the album's success.

Drake asks Bobbi Althoff to unblock his name on Instagram amid lingering rumours of rift

Drake has made a direct request to Bobbi Althoff, asking her to unblock his name in her Instagram comments. The message, posted to her Story and now making the rounds online, read: 'UNBLOCK MY NAME FROM YOUR COMMENTS,' to which she replied, 'I'll consider it.' The Canadian rapper's plea comes after months of speculation surrounding his complicated relationship with the podcast host. Their viral 2023 appearance together on The Really Good Podcast sparked everything from romance rumours to alleged feuds, especially after the episode was mysteriously deleted just weeks later. Tension appeared to grow further when Bobbi was reportedly removed from Drake's SXSW afterparty for arriving uninvited. The timeline became even murkier when she filed for divorce from her husband, Cory, in February 2024, having begun their separation in July 2023, the same month her Drake interview aired. Despite the rumours, Bobbi has previously denied romantic links to Drake, sharing DMs with Dave Portnoy to dispel speculation. In a 2024 interview with Keke Palmer, she said, 'He's a very nice person,' though neither have spoken publicly about each other since. Drake's latest comment, shared via screenshot by Bars, has reignited interest in their relationship—especially as fans question why his name was ever blocked from her page.

Drake pays tribute to Ozzy Osbourne in Birmingham during UK tour after metal legend's death at 76

Drake paid tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne in the heavy metal legend's hometown of Birmingham on July 23, 2025, following news of Osbourne's death at age 76. The Black Sabbath frontman passed away surrounded by family, prompting an outpouring of tributes from across the music world — including an unexpected one from the Canadian rapper. Drake, currently touring the UK and Europe with PARTYNEXTDOOR on his $ome $pecial $hows 4 UK EU tour, happened to be performing in Birmingham when news of Osbourne's passing broke. According to The New York Times, the rapper visited the Black Sabbath Bench, a local monument honoring the iconic band, where he joined fans in mourning. Drake reportedly poured tequila on the ground and said, 'I just came out to pay respects to someone who lived it to the fullest,' describing Osbourne as a 'cultural touchstone' — even for those unfamiliar with his music. Later that evening, still in Birmingham, Drake opened his final show at the Utilita Arena by walking onstage to Black Sabbath's classic track 'Iron Man.' Addressing the crowd, he declared: 'Hey Birmingham! Rest in peace to the legendary Ozzy Osbourne.' (@realalmightee) July 23, 2025 His tribute came just days after Osbourne's final public appearance at a historic reunion concert in Birmingham. Held at Villa Park, the Back To The Beginning concert reunited the original Black Sabbath lineup — Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward — for the first time since 2005. Speaking to ITV News, Iommi said the show 'meant everything' to Osbourne and speculated he 'held out' to perform one last time. The concert, which also featured Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Tool, and more, became the highest-grossing charity show in history. Tributes have also come from Billie Joe Armstrong, Elton John, Ghost, Jack White, and others — reflecting the immense influence Osbourne had across generations and genres.

Adin Ross slams LeBron James for supporting Kendrick Lamar's Drake diss track

Popular streamer Adin Ross has sparked controversy after criticizing NBA star LeBron James for dancing to Kendrick Lamar's track Not Like Us, which takes aim at rapper Drake. During a livestream on July 22, 2025, Ross reacted to a clip showing LeBron and his wife dancing to the diss track at a recent event. Adin Ross goes off on LeBron James for dancing to 'Not Like Us' by Kendrick Lamar 'As i love LeBron my whole life, you can just see what a piece of shit human he is… How can you respect someone that has no loyalty with someone he has known for 15 years' — FearBuck (@FearedBuck) July 23, 2025 Ross, who described himself as a longtime fan of LeBron, voiced disappointment and called the NBA player a 'piece of s**t.' He noted that LeBron had known Drake for years and even met his children, making it, in Ross's view, a betrayal for James to support a track that includes allegations against the Canadian rapper. 'This is not my beef,' Ross said, 'but I'm very close with Drake. It does affect how I see LeBron. You guys can call me parasocial, but how could you respect someone with no loyalty to someone they've known for 15 years?' Ross's remarks quickly spread across social media, prompting a wave of reactions on platform X. Some users mocked Ross for appearing to value his connection to Drake over his relationship with LeBron James and his son Bronny. Others suggested Ross was overstepping by inserting himself into a dispute he wasn't directly involved in. The incident comes days after Ross drew backlash for calling the WNBA a 'tax write-off' and claiming it generates 'no revenue,' further fueling criticism of his outspoken persona.
