DJ Akademiks says Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR's $$$4U gets no radio play due to Drake's UMG feud

Express Tribune01-03-2025
Hip-hop commentator DJ Akademiks has sparked debate by claiming that Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR's latest album, 'Some $exy $ongs 4 U', is receiving little to no radio play due to Drake's ongoing issues with Universal Music Group (UMG).
In a post on X on February 28, 2025, Akademiks wrote, 'The reason why $$$4U by Drake and Partynextdoor received no radio play so far is because of Drake's issues at UMG.'
He explained that the album was released under two labels—Republic Records, a UMG subsidiary, and Santa Anna Group—and that a deal had to be negotiated to resolve promotion conflicts.
'Only 2 songs from the album will be promoted on radio... Labels have deals with radio stations and a deal between the two had to be negotiated before Drake received any airplay. This is how everybody gets to eat off Drake,' Akademiks concluded.
The reason why $$$4U by Drake and Partynextdoor received no radio play so far is because of Drakes issues at UMG and how the album was released under 2 labels Republic (which is UMG who Drake is suing) and Santa Anna Group and which labels get to promote the singles. The tension between Drake and UMG stems from a 2024 lawsuit in which the rapper accused the label of unlawfully promoting Kendrick Lamar's song 'Not Like Us'.
Akademiks suggested that this rift has impacted the promotion of 'Some $exy $ongs 4 U', with only two tracks, 'Gimme a Hug' and 'Somebody Loves Me', being pushed by Republic Records and Santa Anna Group, respectively.
Despite the limited radio play, Akademiks praised the album, particularly the track 'Nokia', which he predicted would be a Top 5 hit. However, after the song dropped to #13 on the Billboard charts, he accused UMG of manipulation, stating, 'If this song don't go top 5, that's UMG.'
As of now, neither Drake nor UMG has publicly addressed Akademiks' claims, leaving fans and industry insiders speculating about the true impact of the legal battle on the album's success.

Adin Ross slams LeBron James for supporting Kendrick Lamar's Drake diss track

Popular streamer Adin Ross has sparked controversy after criticizing NBA star LeBron James for dancing to Kendrick Lamar's track Not Like Us, which takes aim at rapper Drake. During a livestream on July 22, 2025, Ross reacted to a clip showing LeBron and his wife dancing to the diss track at a recent event. Adin Ross goes off on LeBron James for dancing to 'Not Like Us' by Kendrick Lamar 'As i love LeBron my whole life, you can just see what a piece of shit human he is… How can you respect someone that has no loyalty with someone he has known for 15 years' — FearBuck (@FearedBuck) July 23, 2025 Ross, who described himself as a longtime fan of LeBron, voiced disappointment and called the NBA player a 'piece of s**t.' He noted that LeBron had known Drake for years and even met his children, making it, in Ross's view, a betrayal for James to support a track that includes allegations against the Canadian rapper. 'This is not my beef,' Ross said, 'but I'm very close with Drake. It does affect how I see LeBron. You guys can call me parasocial, but how could you respect someone with no loyalty to someone they've known for 15 years?' Ross's remarks quickly spread across social media, prompting a wave of reactions on platform X. Some users mocked Ross for appearing to value his connection to Drake over his relationship with LeBron James and his son Bronny. Others suggested Ross was overstepping by inserting himself into a dispute he wasn't directly involved in. The incident comes days after Ross drew backlash for calling the WNBA a 'tax write-off' and claiming it generates 'no revenue,' further fueling criticism of his outspoken persona.

LeBron James deepens Drake feud with Tyler, the Creator cameo

The rumored fallout between LeBron James and rapper Drake has taken another public turn—this time through a music video. Once close friends, the NBA superstar and Canadian rapper now appear increasingly distant, with fans dissecting each new move for hidden meaning. On July 21, LeBron appeared in Tyler, the Creator's new music video "Stop Playing With Me," dancing alongside longtime associate Maverick Carter and rap duo Clipse—Pusha T and Malice. Given Clipse's long-standing tension with Drake, their inclusion instantly raised eyebrows. LeBron's own Instagram caption, 'STOP FKN PLAYING WITH ME!!!!' only added fuel to the fire. This comes after LeBron publicly supported Kendrick Lamar during his explosive 'Pop Out' concert in 2024, where Lamar performed 'Not Like Us,' a direct diss toward Drake. Since then, Drake has unfollowed LeBron on Instagram, rewritten lyrics removing references to him, and reportedly covered up a LeBron-themed tattoo with one honoring NBA star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Drake further addressed the tension during his performance at the 2025 Wireless Festival, rapping, 'I saw bro in the Pop Out with them but been distant since 'Headlines',' signaling a clear shift in their relationship. While Tyler, the Creator's visuals are often playful, the timing and cast of this video have led fans to believe this wasn't just a random cameo. Online comments were split—some mocking LeBron for siding with Drake's rivals, others urging reconciliation between the two icons. Whether intentional or not, LeBron's move is the latest twist in a celebrity feud that continues to capture headlines—and the internet's attention.

Drake Bell reveals Nickelodeon stars rarely receive 'residuals', calls industry 'corrupt'

Drake Bell is speaking out about the financial realities faced by many former Nickelodeon stars, shedding light on what he describes as a deeply flawed and exploitative system. In a recent appearance on The Unplanned Podcast, the Drake & Josh alum revealed that most actors from the network do not receive residual payments for reruns or streaming of their shows. 'That's the perception of the world,' Bell said. 'People think if you're on TV, you're rich. But that's far from the case.' He explained that actors typically aim for 100 episodes so their shows can enter syndication—a threshold Drake & Josh never reached in its four-season run from 2004 to 2007. 'That's where the money comes from,' he said, adding that many Nickelodeon performers miss out entirely on residual income. Despite Drake & Josh currently airing marathons on multiple networks and trending on Netflix, Bell claims he sees no financial return. 'I gotta figure out how to pay my rent this month,' he said. 'And some fat cat with a cigar is sitting at the top of Viacom getting rich off child labor.' Bell also condemned what he sees as systemic exploitation within the entertainment industry. 'It's a lot of evil, corrupt people,' he stated, suggesting that child actors are often left unsupported after their shows end. Earlier this year, Bell publicly identified himself as a victim of abuse by former Nickelodeon dialogue coach Brian Peck, a registered sex offender. His account was featured in the March 2024 docuseries Quiet on Set, which brought renewed scrutiny to the network's past handling of child talent.
