Kate Middleton 'mortified' by Tim Henman's Wimbledon encounter with her dad
Avid tennis fan Kate Middleton endured a cringeworthy moment at Wimbledon long before marrying Prince William, after her father's comment to British tennis star Tim Henman Sue Barker's illustrious broadcasting career with the BBC placed her at the heart of all the action for almost three decades. The former French Open champion's iconic role gave her the opportunity to interview a host of big names, from sports stars to members of the royal family. During her work on the 2017 BBC One documentary 'Our Wimbledon', Barker travelled around the world to discover what makes the All England Club grass so special for tennis lovers. That journey resulted in interviews with the Duke of Kent and Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, who is a known tennis fan and is often spotted in the SW19 stands with her family. In the latter interview, Princess Kate shared an embarrassing incident from years ago, before she had married Prince William. She revealed how her father, Michael Middleton, once approached British tennis icon Tim Henman, confusing him with 14-time Grand Slam champion Pete Sampras. Barker recounted the tale in her 2024 book, ' Wimbledon: A Personal History ', which provides her perspective on the major tournament, from her days as a junior competitor to her retirement from broadcasting over half a century later in 2022. The 69-year-old wrote: 'During the filming of my Our Wimbledon documentary, I interviewed both the Duke of Kent and Catherine, now Princess of Wales. 'Catherine was so lovely to talk to too. I waited in a room in Kensington Palace with producer Carl Doran and the camera crew. 'We were all a bit on edge and then in she came and put us all at ease, even saying she was a bit nervous as she hadn't given many interviews. (I'm sure she said that to make me feel better.) 'She was a natural in front of the camera and what came across in the interview was her obvious love for the game from an early age. 'Tennis is a family passion and the Middletons came to queue and watch Wimbledon most years. She told me how mortified she was when her father once mistook Tim Henman for Pete Sampras. ''My father is not going to appreciate this, but we were walking past Tim Henman and we had just seen Sampras play. And dad said very coolly, 'Hi Pete.' I was mortified!'' Since that embarrassing encounter, Princess Kate has had plenty of opportunities to meet Henman and rectify her father's past mishap. As a regular attendee of high-profile matches, she is often seen sitting in the Royal Box. The Princess also presents the tournament's finalists with their trophies, the most recent recipient being men's singles champion Carlos Alcaraz in 2024.

Oasis Live 25 tour live updates and everything you need to know
The countdown is almost over for of the biggest reunion tours of all time, as brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher return as Oasis this Friday in Cardiff. The hotly-anticipated tour is the culmination of months of speculation, a feverish ticket sale and a long, long 16 year wait from fans. Oasis have not performed together since August 22 2009, when they played V Festival in Staffordshire, during their Dig Out Your Soul Tour. The band's next scheduled gig at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris on August 28, 2009 became the stuff of rock legend... for all the wrong reasons. A backstage bust-up saw an exchange of blows between the brothers with Liam 'wielding a guitar like an axe' and Noel storming out saying he "simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer." Oasis fans watched on as the brothers swapped funny yet frustrating jibes in the years that followed until finally the frost began to thaw. A shock comeback was unveiled in August 2024, with the band declaring: 'The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.' A chaotic rush for tickets followed with 17 dates announced across London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Dublin before the band announced more concerts in North America, Mexico, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Chile and Argentina - giving fans around the world the chance to hear the hits live again. Formed in Manchester in 1991, Oasis become one of the biggest-selling bands in British history. They surpassed many of their Britpop peers to carve a place in rock and roll history. All seven of their studio albums topped the charts, with success translating to ticket sales – most famously when 125,000 descended on Knebworth for two nights in 1996. They headlined Glastonbury twice, first in 1995, then again in 2004. Solo stardom beckoned for both Gallaghers during their time apart, though Liam made no secret of the fact he was ready and waiting to reunite with his older brother when the time came. And now the wait is over - coinciding with the band's 30th anniversary of their second album, (What's The Story) Morning Glory? the Live 25 tour finally beckons. Here's everything you need to know. Oasis tickets are available right now from a number of online retailers. This includes both official and resale websites. Fans will likely want to peruse Ticketmaster's wares first, as they have been touted as the original seller of the band's tour tickets. However, the online media giant has not had any tickets for some time. And, at the time of writing, only people with allocated codes can buy tickets. Regardless, here's the link: Otherwise, resale websites are where fans ought to be looking the most. Oasis have signposted Twickets as their official resale websites, however, they have not had tickets for a very long time. As a result, fans have flocked to the likes of viagogo, Vivid Seats and StubHub instead. And, at the time of writing, some Oasis tickets are being sold for around £200 each on viagogo. Here's the links: Finally, there are also official tickets available from VIP and hospitality-based website Seat Unique. This retailer gives fans the absolute best chance of getting involved in Oasis' tour dates this year. What's more, these VIP tickets give fans a chance to see the band with an added touch of flair and glamour. Here's the link: Support act Cast will be on stage at 6pm in Cardiff and were hand picked to play by the Gallagher brothers. Frontman John Power told the Mirror he will be there as an Oasis fan as well as playing before them. The band split up in 2001 but reformed in 2010 and last year they toured as support for Liam Gallagher as he played a Definitely Maybe Oasis tour which fans loved. And now the Manchester frontman has personally got them back for the Oasis shows. John said: "I got a call from a number, and I have got Liam and Noel's numbers and all that, but it was a different number, and I don't normally answer them. "And I picked it up, and it was Debbie, Liam's manager and his wife, and Liam in the background as well. And then Liam, he'd just spoken to Noel and they just discussed it, and they just said, 'You know, look, we just spoke to our kid. Do you want to open up on the tour?' "I was like, 'You know, I think I do actually!' And it was a really cool conversation, and then we were blown away like, I mean, it was like the best news we could have hoped for." Oasis began their rehearsals on May 20 with the first sessions being without Liam who was resting his voice. Noel Gallagher was pictured alongside Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs, Gem Archer, Andy Bell and new drummer Joey Waronker before Liam joined on June 3. The band have rehearsed for the whole month, including some sessions inside the Principality Stadium. Reporters at the scene heard the unmistakeable chords of Cigarettes and Alcohol ringing out in the vicinity with some major hints at the setlist revealed. The Oasis tour kicks off in Cardiff this Friday night but here is how the band are fixed for the rest of the summer in the UK and Ireland.

Careful, there may be a painful secret behind this door
We jest, of course. It wasn't a pasty-'n'-pop scoffathon. Instead, the garrulous garden nosherati tucked into dinky sandwiches and cakes, plus tea and apple juice. And everyone was dressed to impress. Chaps in smart suits; ladies in pretty Edwardian-style summer dresses, with hats as tall and textured as the Manhattan skyline. (Can you tell that the Diary is auditioning for a gig with Paris Vogue?) Yup, men were dashing, women were dazzling… until they left the party. For our spies inform us that two lady partygoers were spotted awaiting their homeward-bound carriage at Waverley Station. Still wearing pretty Edwardian-style summer dresses. Still in those tall, textured hats. But one lady was now barefoot, while the other had changed into a pair of comfy bedroom slippers. Clearly it had been a VERY long day… Home sweet home On the subject of Waverley Station. A Tannoy announcement was heard on the concourse, warning people not to feed the pigeons. The announcer explained that this was to encourage the birds to find 'a better home'. But what could be more ideal than Waverley Station, wonders the Diary? For it has a café, if the pigeons desire a coffee perk-up plus seed cake. There's also a newsagent where the birds can buy a copy of The Herald, thus keeping up to date with essential Diary exclusives. There's even an M&S, if the pigeons want to purchase fresh Y-Fronts. Come to think of it, maybe the feathered residents should vamoose… and let the rest of us move to Waverley. Talking balls They're whacking yellow, fuzzy hingmies over nets in SW19 again, which inspires Eddy Cavin to provide his favourite Wimbledon clichés. 1. Defeated British players must be described as 'plucky losers'. 2. There must be a reference to Virginia Wade's win 'in Jubilee year'. (The tennis version of 1966.) Candid couture Philosophical thought from reader Lisa Scott: 'Three things that always tell the truth… Small children, drunk people and yoga pants.' Party pooper 'No offence to the Von Trapps,' says reader Chris Robertson. 'But if I go to a swanky party and seven kids start singing about going to bed, I use that time for a toilet break.' Zero effort 'What's a lazy person's favourite exercise?' asks Nicola Munro. 'Diddly squats.'
