* Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos) will star opposite Patrick Dempsey in Fox's Memory of a Killer. He'll play Dutch, 'an accomplished Italian chef who owns a restaurant in the Bronx, a stalwart establishment that is also a front for Dutch's less sociable activities — such as running a criminal enterprise,' according to the official character breakdown. 'As ruthless and mercurial as he is affable, Dutch is Angelo's (Dempsey) oldest friend, as well as his employer — he gives Angelo the targets for his hits. * Peacock's The Five-Star Weekend adaptation has added recurring guest stars Judy Greer (Stick) as Electra, West Duchovny (Saint X) as Aubrey, and Tory Devon Smith (The Get Down) as John Mark, per Variety. Bristol Motor Speedway ready for Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds MLB showdown inside the 'Colosseum'
BRISTOL, Tenn. – A record-breaking crowd will be in attendance next weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway for the inaugural 'Speedway Classic' that will see the Atlanta Braves take on the Cincinnati Reds inside the place known as the 'Colosseum', thanks to Major League Baseball and FOX. Having previously hosted an event outside the norm, speedway officials are ready to break in another first for the historic venue, as baseball fans will descend upon East Tennessee for this highly anticipated game that is taking place inside a racetrack. On Friday, Bristol officials gave OutKick a tour of what was to come next Saturday. While the day will start with fans flooding an outdoor party that includes a concert from Tim McGraw, Jake Owens and Pitbull, the real show begins when both teams take to the field for a showdown that will take place on the infield of the gigantic speedway. As you will see if attending, walking into this gigantic venue for a baseball game will assuredly blow your mind, if Friday's sneak peek was any indication. Having spent the past few years planning this Major League Baseball event that will be broadcast on FOX, speedway officials have allowed the construction crew to do what they do best, which is put together something beyond imaginable. Even though I covered the 'Battle at Bristol' years ago, which saw Tennessee and Virginia Tech face-off on a football field inside the cathedral, I have to admit this baseball event looks as though track officials have stepped it up a notch when it comes to broadening their mindset on big events. Luckily for fans attending, there is really not a bad seat in the house, thanks to construction crews that have been working around the clock to make sure the turf is ready for Major League Baseball. From the indoor batting cages, outdoor bullpen and insane setup, this truly goes down as one of the most imaginative events in recent event history. While the football game was entertaining, it's obvious that track president Jerry Caldwell put a lot of thought into hosting this event, which started when the MLB noticed the track was hosting a college football game. Now, with the turf down, and the temporary bleachers being setup, it's all starting to come together for the exciting event. While track officials did not release the number of tickets sold, they told OutKick that this baseball event would be record-breaking when it comes to attendance. Besides the action that will take place on the field, next Saturday will be filled with plenty of events for families and fans, which includes a tailgate party outside the track, before folks start making their way inside the enormous stadium. The concerts will start before the game at 6 p.m. on the infield stage, as both teams warm-up on the beautiful field. For the fans sitting in the outfield, don't worry, there will be an opportunity to catch plenty of homeruns, given that there will not be a fence setup in the outfield. It's easy to see that all parties have spent a lot of money putting this event together. While we did not get to see what the clubhouse looks like for both teams, they look to be pretty massive, along with the indoor pitching and batting areas for players. If you are watching from home, don't worry. The FOX broadcast will have plenty of interesting events for the television audience, though Bristol officials have kept those quiet for now. The ‘Alien: Earth' Premiere Just Blew Away Hall H at Comic-Con
Anyone who has been to a movie recently knows that keeping people quiet to watch something together can be a struggle. Now make that number almost 7,000 people, and what happens is pure captivation as the crowd in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con were wowed by the first episode of Alien: Earth, which comes to FX on August 12. The episode starts in a very familiar way for Alien fans before doing a complete 180 into something totally different. Almost instantly, it's clear that creator Noah Hawley both knows what you want from an Alien show and that he has to give you something new. That something new primarily centers on Wendy, played by Sydney Chandler. In the first episode, we see she's actually a child who had her consciousness transported into a superior robot body resembling an adult. It's one of the new innovations at Prodigy, one of several companies at the center of Alien: Earth as they battle a war to monetize immortality. Not what you expected from an Alien show, right? After a few twists and turns, Wendy and several other similar beings decide they want to help investigate a mysterious (and potentially lucrative) crash by a Weyland-Yutani ship in the middle of the city. That ship houses several creatures on it, including some new ones that will creep and crawl their way into your nightmares, just as they do a few soldiers near the end of the episode. We'll have more specifics on the episode when we get closer to release, but it played like gangbusters to the near 7,000-person Hall H at Comic-Con. They 'ooh'd,' they 'aah'd,' and they made it seem like this Alien: Earth show might be something special. Because the episode was so long, there wasn't a lot of time to actually talk about the show on the panel. Mostly, the attending cast, which included Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, Samuel Blenkin, and Babou Ceesay, talked about how excited they are to be part of the Alien franchise. But showrunner and creator Noah Hawley did explain a bit about how this show will be different, just on a macro scale, from an Alien movie. 'It's an 8-hour story this year, and each hour has to build and have its horror elements, but my feeling is it really has to work as a drama, and then all the genre elements can be built on top of that,' he said. 'An Alien movie is a two-hour survival story, and a television show has to be more than that. It has to be a character journey that's thematically rich and that you really start to worry that I might kill some of these people. And I might.' 'The thing that's really quite special and I think you guys are going to enjoy is that by the time you get to the third or fourth episode, the things that wake you up in the middle of the night and you're thinking about the next day are just scenes between two people,' Olyphant added. 'They're so riveting. In addition to all the thrills and the scares. the drama and character study is so phenomenal.' We'll see it all on August 12 when Alien: Earth comes to FX. Want more io9 news?
