Over 60,000 votes manipulated in Karnataka: Shivakumar backs Rahul Gandhi's claims

India Today3 days ago
Backing allegations made by Rahul Gandhi, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, speaking exclusively to India Today, said the Congress had gathered extensive evidence of electoral fraud in the state. He claimed that more than 60,000 votes had been manipulated in a single constituency and asserted that the party had full documentation to support its findings.'I fully endorse his views. It is our Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) research team from day 1, we were just working out on this because we are very shocked to hear and know about the result and what has happened. And I endorse it and we have more than 60,000 votes in one constituency which we have full documentation connected to it. And he has also made a very thorough study on that issue. He has come out and we stand by his statement,' Shivakumar said.advertisementWhen asked if the alleged tampering extended to Bengaluru Rural, where his brother DK Suresh contested and lost the recent Lok Sabha elections, Shivakumar replied, 'Yes, of course, of course, of course. We'll give some documents connected to it.'
On the issue of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) being conducted in Bihar, Shivakumar also supported the Congress Party's objections to the removal of 51 lakh voters from the electoral rolls. 'This has been well after the Maharashtra elections. The polling time, how it can be 51 lakh like has been voted in a short time. What is that? All these things are there. I still think the media has to take up this issue. It is your responsibility also to see that a free and fair election is taking place in the country. We may lose, we win. No one can always win. We may also lose. I agree, but this is not the way our elections were conducted.'When asked how many Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka may have seen such irregularities, Shivakumar declined to provide a figure. 'I don't want to comment on that. We are going to give a number of evidences, then let us speak,' he said.Rahul Gandhi had on Thursday accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of 'cheating' during the voter list revision process in a Karnataka constituency. Gandhi claimed that the Congress had gathered irrefutable evidence of electoral fraud being facilitated by the Commission. 'We have concrete, 100 per cent proof of the Election Commission allowing cheating in a seat in Karnataka. Not 90 per cent - when we decide to show it to you it's 100 per cent proof,' he said.Reacting to Gandhi's statement, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in a post on X on Thursday, said the Lok Sabha election results in the state had not only surprised the Congress but also raised serious doubts. 'The truth that the irregularities committed by @BJP4India by misusing the Election Commission were the reason for the Congress party's setback is now coming to light,' he wrote. He added, 'As the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, @RahulGandhi is gradually exposing the irregularities committed by the Election Commission, and he has also provided details about the electoral malpractices that took place in Karnataka. I fully endorse Rahul Gandhi's statement that there is hundred percent evidence of the Election Commission's irregularities in Karnataka. Our numerous workers had lodged complaints about the sudden addition of new voters and the deletion of old voters' names in several constituencies of the state.'advertisementSiddaramaiah further alleged that Prime Minister @narendramodi's victories were not based on popularity or performance. '@narendramodi's election victories are neither due to his popularity nor the achievements of the BJP government. The truth that it is due to the 'vote theft' conducted through the Election Commission is now being revealed,' he said.He also said the party would soon decide on a course of action. 'Regarding the actions to be taken on the electoral irregularities that occurred in Karnataka, we will consult with Rahul Gandhi and AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and make a decision.'- Ends

West Bengal govt trying to ‘legitimise Rohingya Muslims, illegal Bangladeshi immigrants': Suvendu Adhikari writes to Election Commission

West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari Monday expressed concerns over an alleged increase in voter registration applications and the issuance of domicile certificates in the border districts, claiming that this is an attempt by the state administration to legitimise 'infiltrating Rohingya Muslims and illegal Bangladeshi immigrants'. Sharing a copy of a letter he wrote to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on July 26, the BJP leader wrote on X, 'A disturbing trend has emerged in West Bengal's border districts. Over 70,000 Form-6 applications have been submitted on average in the last week, a sharp rise from the usual 20,000-25,000, especially in Coochbehar, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Maldah, North Dinajpur, Murshidabad, Nadia, and North & South 24 Parganas districts.' Form-6 is used for registering as a new voter for the first time. He said this surge, coupled with reports of domicile certificates being issued, raises concerns about the government's 'unethical and illegal efforts' to facilitate the 'legitimising of the infiltrating Rohingya Muslims and illegal Bangladeshi immigrants' to manipulate voter lists. Adhikari has urged the CEC not to accept any domicile certificates issued after July 25, during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, if such an activity is conducted in West Bengal. He said this step is crucial to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process'. The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday started training booth-level officers (BLOs) in West Bengal, amid speculations that the SIR of electoral rolls, similar to the one being held in neighbouring poll-bound Bihar, will be held in the state, too. Adhikari alleged in his letter that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's offfice has issued directives to the district magistrates (DMs) and subdivisional magistrates (SDMs) of North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Murshidabad, Birbhum, Malda, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Coochbehar districts for hte issuance of a large number of domicile certificates in these border districts with Bangladesh. 'The integrity of our Democracy must be protected and can't be allowed to get diluted for vested interests of Vote Bank Politics. The District Election Officers must remember that they are entrusted with the responsibility of conducting free and fair elections, and their allegiance is with the country and protecting the interests of the country,' he wrote. Earlier, on Saturday, Saturday Adhikari said the Bengal BJP would take to the streets from August 17 demanding a 'Rohingya-free Bengal' in a bid to counter Trinamool's 'Bangla-Bangali' narrative in the run-up to next year's Assembly elections. 'Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee gifted this homeland to Bengali Hindus, and we will protect it,' Adhikari said. 'Why do you assume that they came from Pakistan': Chidambaram's remark on Pahalgam attackers stirs row

A political row has erupted ahead of the high-stakes parliamentary debate on 'Operation Sindoor', India's military response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. The controversy was sparked by remarks from former finance minister and senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram, who, in an interview with The Quint, questioned the narrative that the attackers came from Pakistan. 'There is no evidence so far that the killers were Pakistani,' Chidambaram said, suggesting that "homegrown terrorists" could have been involved. He also slammed the government's handling of the investigation, asking why the attackers had not yet been apprehended or identified. His comments triggered a sharp backlash from the BJP, with the party accusing Congress of undermining national security. 'Once again, the Congress rushes to give a clean chit to Pakistan, this time after the Pahalgam terror attack,' BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya posted on X, sharing a clip from the interview. He further added, 'When it comes to national security, there should be no ambiguity. But with the Congress, there never is – they always bend over backwards to protect the enemy.'
