Rapids GK Zack Steffen has knee surgery, out 4-6 weeks
The injury puts Steffen out of the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup. He sustained the injury during a practice with the U.S. national team last week.
The surgery repaired Steffen's right medial meniscus.
Steffen, 30, has made 30 career appearances for USMNT.
Steffen has not played for the Rapids since May 14 against San Diego FC. Nicolas Hansen has filled in over the past four matches and the Rapids have two wins and two losses.
Steffen is in his second season with the Rapids. In 11 starts in 2025, he has allowed 16 goals.
The Rapids (6-7-4, 22 points) are in ninth place in the MLS Western Conference heading into their game Saturday at home against Orlando, S.C.

July 30 - Kyle Manzardo hit a pair of homers and Gabriel Arias and Brayan Rocchio drove in two runs apiece to send the Cleveland Guardians to a 10-4 rout over the visiting Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night. Manzardo had three RBIs in his second career two-homer game, giving him 18 blasts in his first full season in the majors. He delivered a two-run shot in the third inning against Tanner Gordon (2-3) and a solo homer off Jimmy Herget three frames later. Cleveland has split the first two games of the series and is 7-5 since the All-Star break, which leaves the Guardians on the periphery of the American League wild-card chase. Guardians starter Logan Allen (7-9) matched his career high by going seven innings. The left-hander allowed two runs -- solo homers to Jordan Beck in the fourth and Michael Toglia in the seventh -- along with eight hits and one walk while striking out three. Allen threw 114 pitches, the most by a Cleveland pitcher since Aaron Civale also had 114 on May 19, 2021. Civale was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for Manzardo two years ago when the Guardians fell out of playoff contention. The Guardians built a 7-0 lead in three innings against Gordon, who gave up six earned runs on eight hits. The right-hander struck out two and walked a pair in his fifth appearance for Colorado stretched across three callups from Triple-A Albuquerque. Cleveland scored two runs in the first on Arias' bad-hop single past shortstop Ezequiel Tovar, which brought home Steven Kwan and Daniel Schneemann. It tacked on a run in the second when David Fry led off with a single and moved to second when Gordon committed a unique balk -- falling off the mound without releasing the ball when his left plant foot slipped. Fry scored on Brayan Rocchio's single when left fielder Beck committed an error. Kyle Farmer accounted for Colorado's final run with a homer in the ninth against Tim Herrin. Cincinnati made an offer to sign him earlier this summer but could only offer him a deal worth around £1.5million per year as they had already filled their designated player spots. Muller didn't entertain that offer and Vancouver have since stepped in to win the race. Cincinnati will be owed around £300,000 from Vancouver should the deal go through. Deion Sanders reveals bladder cancer diagnosis, now ‘cured' after surgery
Colorado University football coach Deion Sanders disclosed Monday that he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bladder cancer but after surgery his oncologist considered him cured. Dr Janet Kukreja, the director of urologic oncology at the CU Cancer Center/UCHealth University of Colorado hospital, said Sanders had his bladder removed as part of the surgical plan due to the high recurrence rate of this form of the disease. 'I can't pee like I used to pee. It's totally different,' Sanders said, adding that he lost 25 pounds at one point in recovery, with a new bladder formed from parts of his intenstine. 'I depend on Depends if you know what I mean,' Sanders said. 'I cannot control my bladder. So I get up to go to the bathroom already 4-5 times a night. And I'm sitting there waking up like my grandson. We in the same thing. We got the same problem right now. We're going through the same trials and tribulations.' Sanders plans to oversee the Buffaloes this season, his third at Colorado. He said there will probably be a portable toilet on the sidelines, and that he hopes to serve as an example and role model for others with a similar diagnosis. Sanders, who turns 58 next month, spoke to the media on the eve of fall camp. He brought his medical team with him to discuss his diagnosis. The charismatic coach returned to campus last week and announced on social media, 'Back and Feeling Great!' He's missed football camps in Boulder this summer amid reports that he's been ill. On Sunday, the production crew of Well Off Media, which chronicles Sanders and the Buffaloes, posted a video on YouTube of the coach's first meeting with the team. In the middle of the clip, there was a scene, dated 9 May, where Sanders said: 'I don't know if I'm ready mentally, emotionally. Last night was tough, yesterday was tough, because I had to make a will. That's not easy at all, to think that you may not be here.' Sanders has dealt with issues surrounding his left foot since having two toes amputated in 2021 because of blood clot issues while he was coaching at Jackson State. He missed media day in 2023, his inaugural year at Colorado, after a procedure to remove a blood clot from his right leg and another to straighten toes on his left foot. In March, Sanders signed a contract extension through the 2029 season. The Buffaloes kick off the season on Aug. 29 against Georgia Tech at Folsom Field. It will be the first season in quite some time that he hasn't coached one of his sons. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders was drafted by the Cleveland Browns while Shilo, a safety, is in camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes went 4-8 in his first season and 9-4 last season, with an appearance in the Alamo Bowl. They have big shoes to fill in replacing Shedeur Sanders and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter.
