Farah Khan Thought Kay Kay Menon Took Drugs During Sajna Ji Vaari Vaari Shoot: 'I Had To...'

Last Updated: Kay Kay Menon recalls his hilarious dance scene in Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd, revealing Farah Khan thought he was drunk during the shoot of Sajna Ji Vaari Vaari. Known for his intense and thoughtful roles, Kay Kay Menon rarely dips into comedy or romance. But one film where he broke the mould was the 2007 ensemble comedy Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd. In it, he played a nerdy Bengali husband opposite Raima Sen — and delivered one of his most surprising performances to date. In a chat with Shubhankar Mishra on his podcast on YouTube, Kay Kay shared a behind-the-scenes memory from the shoot, specifically from the lively track 'Sajna Ji Vaari Vaari." 'I played a nerdy guy who unknowingly gets high after drinking something spiked," he said, laughing about the role. To make the scene believable, he leaned on director Reema Kagti's expertise. 'She was an expert. She gave me a detailed idea. Once I understood it, my character just opened up." The song was choreographed by Farah Khan, but Kay Kay came in with his own creative input. 'She came aboard the yacht where we were supposed to shoot the dance," he said. 'I reached early and told her, 'Farah, please don't give me those aerobic-style dance steps.' She asked, 'Then what are you going to do?' I said, 'Just let me flow with the character. Let my dance be part of the act.' She agreed." The actor's spontaneous movements during the shoot had Farah doing a double take. 'After a while, she stopped me and said, 'Kay Kay, are you drunk?' I said, 'No yaar.' She then said, 'You had some drug?' She genuinely thought I had taken something. I had to convince her I was just acting. What they don't know is that I don't drink at all." Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd is a 2007 Bollywood dramedy directed by Reema Kagti and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. Set against the backdrop of a quirky group honeymoon trip to Goa, the film follows six diverse couples, each dealing with unique challenges in their relationships. The ensemble cast includes Kay Kay Menon, Raima Sen, Shabana Azmi, Boman Irani, Abhay Deol, and Minissha Lamba, among others. First Published:
