The project will consist of three phases and construction will run from 2026 until 2040, the statement said. Vingroup will use its own funds to finance about 15% of the total investment costs and seek external sources to pay for the remaining 85%.

Generative AI apps have already raked in nearly US$2bil this year
Usage patterns of these apps are starting to look similar to those of search engines. — Photo by Solen Feyissa on Unsplash This year, people have nearly doubled their spending on generative AI apps when it comes to both time and money, proving the rise of this technology's popularity. In the first half of 2025, GenAI apps pulled in roughly US$1.9bil (RM8bil) of in-app purchase revenue versus US$932mil (RM3.9bil) in the second half of 2024, according to a new report from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower, which looks at data from Apple's App Store and Google Play. The exponential growth in hours users spent on generative AI apps is notable as well. Users spent a whopping 15.6 billion hours using these apps in the first half of 2025 – which is about an 84 percent jump from the second half of 2024. Generative AI apps were downloaded 1.7 billion times in the first half of 2025, a jump of 67 percent since the second half of 2024. ChatGPT dominated the global downloads, followed by DeepSeek and Google Gemini, although Gemini overtook DeepSeek in the US market. Usage patterns of these apps are starting to look similar to those of search engines. Users averaged 7.8 sessions per day on ChatGPT in the first half of 2025, which just exceed the 7.4 average daily sessions users spent using top search engine and browser apps. They still spent, on average, more time daily on search engine apps, but that difference is narrowing. 'The potential for ChatGPT to disrupt traditional search is already apparent. Over the past few years, ChatGPT's engagement metrics have soared, now rivalling those of leading search engine and browser applications,' the report reads. And when it comes to the average number of days certain apps are used on a monthly basis, Google still reigns supreme. But the report notes ChatGPT was about on par with X and Reddit in terms of days used in June 2025. 'It's notable that ChatGPT (and AI assistants more broadly) has yet to fully replace search engines like Google when it comes to consistent usage,' the report states. What are users spending all that time doing with generative AI? According to Sensor Tower's report, 8.3 percent of ChatGPT prompts in the second quarter of 2025 involved tech support and troubleshooting; followed by writing and editing, which accounted for about 7.7 percent of prompts. Education and teaching, coding help, and health and wellness rounded out the top five. 'As ChatGPT has expanded its user base, its use cases have become more diverse,' the report states. – Inc./Tribune News Service

BP says it has made largest find in 25 years off Brazil
SAO PAULO: BP Plc says it has made its biggest discovery in 25 years in deep waters off Brazil, a boon for the UK oil major as it seeks to turn around years of underperformance. BP found an estimated 500-m column of oil and gas at the Bumerangue block in the Santos basin, it said yesterday, giving little other detail. The find adds to other discoveries this year in Trinidad & Tobago, the Gulf of Mexico and Egypt. 'This is another success in what has been an exceptional year so far for our exploration team,' the energy giant said in a statement. 'Our ambition is to explore the potential of establishing a material and advantaged production hub' in Brazil. Chief executive officer Murray Auchincloss reset BP's strategy in February by promising to refocus on oil and gas after years of failed low-carbon investments. Other supermajors had recommitted more quickly to the hydrocarbon-focused strategies that fed their profits. BP's 2030 production target: 2.3 million to 2.5 million barrels of oil equivalent a day, remains unchanged. The London-based company said it has 'capacity to increase production out to 2035'. — Bloomberg Trading ideas: Bumi Armada, Zetrix, Kelington, Kim Hin, Hibiscus, Johor Plantations, Ajiya, Tex Cycle, Pekat, Kimlun, Jiankun, Rimbunan Sawit, Ramssol

Slimmer advantage for local glove makers
PETALING JAYA: Analysts are maintaining their stance on the glove sector despite the finalisation of a 19% tariff on Malaysian glove imports by the United States. In a report to clients, CIMB Research said it was maintaining its 'neutral' stance on the rubber-glove sector, owing to ongoing headwinds, including persistently sluggish demand recovery due to cautious purchasing patterns, elevated costs stemming from the recent rise in Malaysia's sales and service tax and the minimum wage, and weak average selling prices (ASPs) in an oversupplied market. CIMB Research said that while Malaysia no longer holds a rate advantage over Thailand, Indonesia or Cambodia, the 19% tariff is still lower than Vietnam's 20% and China's 30%, offering marginal competitiveness in the US market. 'We expect some incremental shift in US glove orders to Malaysia, but higher tariffs will still increase cost base for US buyers, which may limit restocking or lead to leaner inventories,' the research house said. Meanwhile, Chinese and Vietnamese glove makers are likely to redirect supply to non-US markets at more competitive prices, intensifying global pricing pressure, it added. Maybank Investment Bank Research also said it was maintaining its 'negative' stance with no change to earnings forecasts for now. 'We believe upcoming results could be weak mainly due to the weakening US dollar versus the ringgit,' the research house said.
