Liverpool to REPLACE Federico Chiesa with £30m winger

Liverpool have a replacement in mind for , even before the Italian departs. The forward line has already gone through some significant changes this summer and we're set for more if the rumoured moves come to fruition. Each of the absentees will need to be replaced. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas home range 🚨2025/26 LFC x adidas range🚨 LFC x adidas Shop the away range TODAY LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! We've already seen Hugo Ekitike join to help replace Darwin Nunez when he moves on and Diogo Jota's passing has sadly meant that another striker could join - Alexander Isak is highly favoured. Luis Diaz's move to Bayern Munich might result in Malick Fofana at Lyon being approached, although Cody Gakpo will be given an even bigger role in his absence and Rio Ngumoha's extraordinary performances throughout pre-season have given the Englishman hopes of some senior minutes. Since it's likely that Chiesa will leave, someone has already been identified as his replacement. Liverpool already have Chiesa's replacement Playing as Mohamed Salah's understudy was always going to be a difficult job. At times, you feel there might be an opportunity to play a substantial role in the team, but if you have a season where the Egyptian delivers 57 goal contributions, then you might feel shut-out on the sidelines. Slot didn't really know what to do with Chiesa last season and regular minutes are going to be essential if he has plans of making Italy's World Cup squad next summer. A move is understandable. Now that Salah has signed a new two-year deal with the club, you would expect him to have another main role in the team this season, which would be a spanner in the Italian's plans. But if you have a developing young player as his understudy at right-wing, then things start to make more sense. The 33-year-old Egyptian will need to be replaced eventually as he starts to slow down towards the end of his career, and having his successor develop alongside him would be a beneficial move. As such, it seems logical for Ben Doak to be promoted to the first team after a number of loan moves. He spent last season on loan with Middlesbrough in the Championship and he played a particularly extensive role, making featuring for 1787 minutes and delivering three goals and seven assists. In addition, he was heavily reported to have put most of the defenders he faced on skids, dribbling past them with relative ease, even despite him being marked by three opposition players at times. At Anfield on Monday afternoon, when the Reds played Athletic Bilbao in a pre-season friendly, he scored from a tight angle and delivered a pin-point ball into Ngumoha to assist the second goal.

Tottenham enter battle with Premier League rivals for La Liga sensation

Tottenham enter battle with Premier League rivals for La Liga sensation originally appeared on The Sporting News The summer exit of Heung-min Son did more than mark the end of a glittering chapter at Tottenham - it has opened up a void on the left side of the attack that the club can no longer afford to ignore. Chairman Daniel Levy, who has been cautious but deliberate in the market is now narrowing his sights on a player who has long been admired inside Spurs' recruitment department. According to AS, that player is Real Madrid's Rodrygo Goes, whose future in Spain is becoming less certain with every passing week. Tottenham have already contacted Real Madrid to request permission to speak directly with Rodrygo's representatives. So far, the winger has not expressed any desire to leave the Bernabeu, but his reduced minutes during the Club World Cup under new manager Xabi Alonso have not gone unnoticed. The emergence of 21-year-old Gonzalo Garcia and the arrival of Argentine talent Franco Mastantuono have added to the growing competition for places in the Madrid front line. 📲 Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp Rodrygo's preferred position on the left wing has long been occupied by Vinicius Junior. According to the same report, the financials might be the least of Tottenham's concerns. With Son gone, the club is shedding its highest wage of €11m [$12.7m] annually, which creates ample salary room. Rodrygo earns €400,000 [$462,322] a week, per Capology, a figure Tottenham could potentially meet with help from the club's new American investor. Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs now hover in Rodrygo's orbit Reportedly, before finalizing any pursuit of Rodrygo, Tottenham are focusing efforts on a move for Joao Palhinha as new boss Thomas Frank has prioritized the Bayern Munich midfielder. Once a deal is struck there, Levy is expected to escalate talks with Madrid. Liverpool are reportedly also monitoring the winger, especially after Newcastle rejected their £120m [$160m] bid for Alexander Isak. Arsenal remain in the mix but are reportedly deterred by Rodrygo's salary demands, per Arsenal Insider, after already spending £200m [$265m] this window. Aussie women launch England's Hundred in brutal fashion

The fifth season of England's Hundred competition has been launched with a blizzard of sixes, mostly hit by Australians Grace Harris and Meg Lanning. Harris hit a competition record-equalling six sixes in her 42-ball 89 not out, but was nearly upstaged by her former Australian captain Lanning, who hit five of them before being dismissed for 85 off 51 balls. Her departure sealed London Spirit's victory over capital rivals Oval Invincibles by 17 runs. The match was the first half of a double-header at Lords to kick-off the controversial competition, in which both sides receive 100 balls bowled in 'sets' of five, with the men, including Spirit's David Warner, following. You've been treated at Lord's Cricket Ground to a Grace Harris show! 🍿#TheHundred — The Hundred (@thehundred) August 5, 2025 It was a stunning opening with a competition record 15 sixes in all. Harris led the defending champions to 5-176, the second highest score in the competition's history. The Queenslander was brutal on former Australia teammate Amanda Jade-Wellington, who went for 38 off her 15 balls - but she did have Harris dropped on 22. The other Australians in Spirit's team fared less well. Georgia Redmayne, opening the innings, struggled to a six-ball duck. Charli Knott, recruited late to replace the unavailable Indian star Deepti Sharma, made one off four. Harris put on 100 with Englishwoman Cordelia Griffith (50 off 29), a team record, in 52 balls. "I loved it out there," she said. "When you have a wicket like this, you want to cash in as a batter." On the secret to her clean hitting she suggested "genetics maybe?" before focussing on good prep, technique and an unconventional diet for an athlete. "Three gym sessions a week. Your handspeed as well. Your feet don't have to move well but a still base and you can time balls for six with your hands. "A few burgers in there. I have been living on dumplings since I have been over in England and it seems to be working! No Harris is a small human being, so I will take it."📹 Treat yourself to a Meg Lanning 6️⃣!#TheHundred — The Hundred (@thehundred) August 5, 2025 "She is very powerful and makes it look easy," said Lanning of Harris. "Fair play to her, she was too good. "They set a great total and we were a bit behind. I couldn't get going early on. Once I found some tempo, I had some momentum going." True enough, prior to being out Lanning went 6,4,4,6 and looked about to mastermind a heist over the team she played for last season. There are 16 Australians in the women's competition in all, with all but one of the eight sides having an Aussie. This is the last season solely under the control of the England and Wales Cricket Board with large chunks of most teams sold to private owners, half of them Indian Premier League clubs. This has raised $A1 billion for the sport in England, though that hasn't quelled criticism from traditionalists who fear it threatens the county structure and annexes the key summer month of August. However, besides the cash The Hundred has succeeded in its aim of attracting a new audience - this midweek afternoon women's match drew 15,640 to Lord's. Australian officials, pondering the future of the Big Bash League, will have taken note. AUSTRALIAN WOMEN IN THE HUNDRED Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Georgia Voll (Birmingham Phoenix), Grace Harris, Georgia Redmayne, Charli Knott (London Spirit), Beth Mooney (Manchester Originals), Phoebe Litchfield, Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Wareham (Northern Superchargers), Amanda-Jade Wellington, Meg Lanning (Oval Invincibles), Ash Gardner, Alana King, Heather Graham (Trent Rockets), Jess Jonassen (Welsh Fire).
