Man suffers life-threatening injuries after shooting in Oakville, police say
A man was sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being shot while sitting in his vehicle in Oakville early Saturday morning, police said.
The shooting happened around 12:25 a.m. outside Hashtag Garden Modern Kitchen and Lounge at 177 Cross Avenue, Halton police said in a news release Saturday.
The victim was in a parked vehicle when another vehicle approached, and two male suspects "confronted the victim," the release said.
During the confrontation, the victim was shot, police said. He was taken to hospital where he is being treated for serious, life-threatening injuries.
Both suspects were wearing dark clothing and face coverings, police said. They were last seen fleeing the parking lot in a late-model grey Honda CR-V SUV.
Police said the victim appears to have been specifically targeted.
Anyone with information or dash cam footage of the area between 11 p.m. on Friday and 1 a.m. on Saturday is asked to contact police or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.

A 17-year-old employee at Peaches Corner has been charged in a shooting death that happened at the restaurant Friday night. Myrtle Beach Police Chief Amy Prock said during a press conference Saturday afternoon that the Conway teen Evany McCray allegedly shot and killed the person. The victim has not been named. Prock said the youth curfew is being 'reevaluated at this time.' The current youth curfew is from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. for those under 18. Saturday afternoon, Prock offered more information about the incident, and bond was set for the suspect. It appears that the employee got into a verbal fight with the victim who walked into the restaurant. The person who was injured was outside on the crosswalk. This shooting is the third to take place in Myrtle Beach's Ocean Boulevard tourist section within months. In April, a mass shooting injured 11 people and killed one, and earlier this month, another shooting near Peaches Corner left one person injured from a gunshot. According to Myrtle Beach Police, Friday's shooting came as a result of an altercation between an employee at the restaurant and another person at about 11:15 p.m. Two people suffered gunshot wounds. One died and the other was transported to the hospital for a non-life threatening injury. The person who suffered non-life threatening injuries was in the crosswalk near the business when they were hit. No further information was shared about the victims of the shooting. The teen's bond hearing took place on Saturday afternoon, during which the judge offered no bond on a charge of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, a bond of $250,000 for possession of a weapon during the violent crime, and a bond of $250,000 for a charge of possession of a weapon by a minor. McCray was also charged with murder. This charge was sent to the High Court for bond setting. Police Lt. Allen Amick said that Myrtle Beach police were already patrolling the area when the incident took place, and responded 'within seconds' when shots were fired. Prock said that violence like this is a nationwide issue, and that not only are there some 'mitigating' factors that must be examined with open carry laws, but that adults need to secure weapons in the home. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, police said.

Serbia's police clashes with anti-government protesters
BELGRADE (Reuters) -Serbian police on Saturday evening clashed with anti-government protesters demanding snap elections and an end to the 12-year rule of President Aleksandar Vucic. Police deployed scores of officers in riot gear around government buildings, parliament and nearby Pionirski Park, where throngs of Vucic's backers from across the country gathered in a counter-protest. After the protest ended at around 10 p.m. (2000 GMT), some protesters who wanted to confront Vucic's backers threw bottles, rocks and flares at the police, who used force to disperse them in several locations across Belgrade's city centre. The protesters shouted: "Keep the shields down," calling on the police to stop intervening. Police detained several dozen protesters, while six police officers were reported injured in clashes, Dragan Vasiljevic, the director of police, told a press conference late on Saturday. Vucic said protesters attempted to topple the state. "They (protesters) wanted to topple Serbia, and they have failed," he wrote on his Instagram page. In a statement, students accused the government of an escalation of tensions. "They (authorities) ... opted for violence and repression against the people. Every radicalisation of the situation is their responsibility," students wrote on the X social network. In a statement, Ivica Dacic, the interior minister, said police will act to maintain public order. "The police will take all measures to establish public order and peace, ... and apply all its powers to repel attacks, and arrest all those who attacked the police," Dacic said. Months of protests across the country, including university shutdowns, have rattled Vucic, a populist, whose second term ends in 2027, when there are also parliamentary elections scheduled. Vucic's opponents accuse him and his allies of ties to organised crime, violence against rivals and curbing media freedoms, something they deny. The protesters, who want the government to heed their demands by the end of the protest, have pledged non-violence. Vucic has previously refused snap elections. His Progressive Party-led coalition holds 156 of 250 parliamentary seats. Earlier on Saturday, Vucic said unspecified "foreign powers" were behind the protest. He said police should be restrained, but warned that violence will not be tolerated. 'The country will be defended, and thugs will face justice,' he told reporters in Belgrade. Sladjana Lojanovic, 37, a farmer from the town of Sid in the north, said she came to support students. "The institutions have been usurped and ... there is a lot of corruption. In the days ahead of the protest, police arrested about a dozen anti-government activists, charging them with undermining the constitution and terrorism. All denied the charges. Protests by students, opposition, teachers, workers and farmers began last December after 16 people died on November 1 in a Novi Sad railway station roof collapse. Protesters blame corruption for the disaster. The Belgrade rally coincides with St. Vitus Day, venerated by most Serbs, which marks the 1389 Battle of Kosovo with Ottoman Turks.
