Maxis Strengthens Sustainability Commitment In Observance Of World Environment Day
KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 (Bernama) -- In conjunction with the recent World Environment Day, Maxis has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and a greener future by reducing emissions and expanding the use of renewable energy across Malaysia.
In a statement today, Maxis highlighted its focus on incorporating environmental benefits into its network and operations, while also empowering consumers with greater access to green energy solutions.
It said that with a customer base of 10.4 million subscribers and 780,000 connected homes, the company is well-positioned to drive greater access to green energy across Peninsular Malaysia through its Maxis Home Solar solution.
'By offering robust customer support with a low upfront payment, Maxis empowers people to lower their carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future while benefiting from reduced electricity costs,' the statement read.
Guided by ISO 14001 standards, Maxis implements annual reduction strategies to optimise energy use and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Since 2023, the company has also begun integrating electric vehicles (EVs) into its field operations to support cleaner energy consumption and reduce its carbon footprint.
Maxis has also expanded its use of solar energy by installing EV charging stations at seven Technical Operations Centres (TOCS) and implementing off-grid solar systems at rural base stations nationwide to reduce reliance on diesel generators.
'Additionally, Maxis has improved energy efficiency at its base stations and TOCs by replacing old equipment and systems with updated ones.
'With the implementation of Centralised Self-Organising Network technology, unused equipment can be powered down, while high-efficiency rectifiers can reduce power loss and heat,' said Patrick Er, director of Maxis Green Solutions and Maxis' chief people and transformation officer in the statement.

MyGOV Malaysia Mobile App Set To Transform Public Service Delivery
By Mohd Ashraf Syafiq Mazlan PUTRAJAYA, June 29 (Bernama) -- MyGOV Malaysia, the country's single digital gateway for public services, set to launch next month, is expected to revolutionise how citizens interact with government agencies and departments, making transactions easier, faster and more efficient. The mobile application integrates various public services, offering seamless access for the public, civil servants and businesses. Through the application, users will be able to check, submit applications and receive notifications for services involving government agencies such as summons checks, welfare aid and assistance for government retirees. Senior lecturer in Computer Science at the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences, Universiti Teknologi MARA Seremban Campus, Associate Professor Dr Siti Salwa Salleh, said the introduction of MyGOV Malaysia is the right move to drive the government's digital transformation efforts towards more efficient service delivery. 'This is an improvement in public access, as people can obtain information and services regardless of time and location,' she told Bernama. She said the application will ease dealings with government agencies by eliminating the need to visit physical counters, thereby reducing bureaucracy. However, she stressed the need to enhance communication and user understanding of the application to ensure its full potential is realised. Commenting on data privacy concerns, Siti Salwa said the government must clearly explain how user data is collected, stored and protected.
