Texas A&M HC Mike Elko is 'excited' about his starting QB's development this offseason
The 2025 college football offseason has entered it's "talk'n" phase when every Power 5 head coach begins to preview their rosters, including Texas A&M coach Mike Elko, who spoke to during Wednesday's Brazos Country Coach's Night. Ranging from senior running back Le'Veon Moss's health, improvement on defense, and starting quarterback Marcel Reed's progress this spring.
While Elko's confirmation that Moss is set to be 100% healthy during fall camp after fully recovering from his season-ending knee injury was the breaking news on the night, the second-year head coach was more than positve while discussing Marcel Reed's progression as a pocket passer, fully expecting the redshirt sophomore to take the next step in his development during his first full season as the starting signal caller.
"Marcel Reed's development is what I'm most excited about. His development as a leader and in the passing game is important. He was a great player last year, but you'll see a significantly better version of him this fall."
A "better version" of Marcel Reed is a complete quarterback who can make the tough passes when needed, especially if the run game isn't working.
Last season, after Le'Veon Moss went down, the offense relied on Reed's arm, and while he showed flashes in the 4 OT loss to Auburn, throwing for three touchdowns and nearly 300 yards, his poor performance against the Texas Longhorns resulted in lost confidence among the national media, and some of the Aggie fanbase.
Still, while Reed's elite running skills will continue to be utilized in OC Collin Klein's scheme, the first two games of the season against UTSA and Utah State need to pose as tune-up games for Reed to gain comfortability in the pocket before the Aggies hit the road to face Notre Dame in Week 3.

Ohio State got up off the mat after a loss to Michigan at home to go on a historic run to win the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff. It was a veteran team with a lot of talent that finally began to play like the best team in the country, leaving a several top ten teams in its wake on the way to a memorable season. Despite losing 14 players off the roster to the NFL draft, there are many who still believe there's enough talent on the roster for Ohio State to defend its national title and be right there at the end again. After all, OSU has the two best players in college football with Jeremiah Smith on offense and Caleb Downs on defense, plus a five-star talent that could be taking the reigns of the offense in Julian Sayin. But not everyone thinks Ohio State has what it takes. ESPN's Paul Finebaum is one of those who think the Buckeyes don't quite have what it takes to repeat. When appearing on "Get Up," he didn't beat around the bush when asked if Ohio State could repeat. 'I don't like Ohio State,' Finebaum said. 'I think Ohio State is going to lose in the opener against Texas, and they are going to struggle to make the playoffs, let alone win it all.' Finebaum stayed on Ohio State in addressing Smith's "promise" to beat Michigan the next two seasons with some critical words for Ryan Day. 'I'm glad to see someone on the Ohio State lineup maybe do something more than just mouthing words because Jeremiah sounds serious,' Finebaum said. "They are the defending national champions, so even clowns like me on the fourth of July are not going to call for a firing of a coach because he loses one game. Finebaum has never been short on criticism and controversy, and his critiques of teams often go over the top, but at least you know what you are getting from him. He doesn't mince words, and in this case, he clearly believes Ohio State is a far cry from the team we saw last season, so much so that he doesn't even think the roster is good enough to easily get into the College Football Playoff. BTN analyst shares positive remarks on Michigan State hoops entering next season
One Big Ten Network basketball analyst seems to be pretty high on the Spartans heading into next season. Former Purdue Boilermaker and current Big Ten Network analyst Rapheal Davis shared some positive remarks on the Spartans for next season this week. Davis took to social media platform X to note he's expecting big things from Coen Carr, Jeremy Fears Jr. and Carson Cooper this upcoming season. Here's the exact post on X from Davis: This is the first time this offseason that Davis has provided positive insight on the Spartans from his point of view. He recently was praising the growth he was hearing for Carr and has also previously said he's expecting a breakout season for Fears. Michigan State is coming off a Big Ten championship winning season, where they also reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans, though, lost a number of key contributors off last year's team, including Jaden Akins, Jase Richardson and Tre Holloman. It's clear Davis is high on Michigan State entering next season and would assume he'd consider them a solid value pick to make some noise in the Big Ten.
