
Motorhome fire likely set on purpose: police
A fire in a motorhome in the back of a residence near 130 Street and 128A Avenue was reported sometime before 6:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services called police in.
Although the investigation is in its preliminary stages, police believe the fire was intentionally started.
Police said no one was seriously injured.

Pedestrian fatally struck by vehicle in Markham, police say
A pedestrian struck by a vehicle in Markham has died, York Regional Police say. A 56-year-old woman struck by a vehicle in Markham on Monday morning has now died, York Regional Police say. The collision occurred near Markham Road and Steeles Avenue East at around 8 a.m. Police said the pedestrian who was struck during the incident was rushed to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries but has since died of her injuries. Roads are expected to be closed in the area for the remainder of the day, police said.

Poorly discarded cigarette butts ignite house fire, causing over $1M damage
A heavy fire and thick smoke shoot from a home on Lynden Street in Collingwood, Ont., on Sun., July 20, 2025. Collingwood's fire chief says cigarette butts tossed in a garbage can caused $1 million in damage to a home and displaced several people. Emergency crews responded to the call around 10 p.m. Sunday night on Lynden Street and arrived to find heavy smoke and flames shooting from the house. Firefighters were able to quickly contain the blaze. Due to the damage estimate, the Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified. It's unclear if an investigator will be sent to inspect the situation. There were no pets in the home and no injuries were reported. The fire chief says six people have been displaced as a result of the fire. Teens arrested for alleged machete attack: Winnipeg police

THE CANADIAN PRESS/David Lipnowski A 14-year-old boy was taken to the hospital over the weekend after he was robbed and attacked with a machete. The incident began on Friday at 8:30 p.m. when the teen was shopping in the 1400 block of Portage Avenue. According to the Winnipeg Police Service, the victim was approached by three other teenagers, including one armed with a machete. Police allege the victim was hit several times with the machete, causing him to fall to the ground. During the attack, the suspects also robbed him of his belongings before they ran from the scene. When officers got to the scene, they found the 14-year-old boy with a significant hand injury. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Shortly after, police found and arrested three suspects at a restaurant in the 1400 block of St. Matthews Avenue. Three males—aged 13, 14, and 15—have been charged with robbery. None of the charges have been proven in court. The 13-year-old and the 14-year-old were both detained in custody, while the 15-year-old was released on an undertaking. The major crimes unit is investigating.
