Kyle Larson finished the Talladega Cup Series race with his best result at the superspeedway last weekend. Finishing second at the Jack Link's 500 after the disqualification of Ryan Preece ahead of him, he admitted that there wasn't much else he could do to move up the pack.
The race was certainly exciting, with Austin Cindric leading Preece by just 0.022 seconds in the No. 2 Penske Ford for a nail biting finish. The pack saw 67 lead changes through 23 different drivers, and Larson - who started all the way down in 25th - pushed his way through to finish on the podium in a display of dominant racing.
Winning Stage 1, he then finished third in Stage 2, bringing home 54 points after the disqualification of Preece.
Following the race, Larson admitted the difficulties he faced as the drivers neared the end of the race.

I wanted to go to the outside lane when we got clear of William [Byron], but I felt like the gap was too big to move up and the No. 60 [Ryan Preece] was able to fill it.
"I was still happy to be second row on the inside lane, obviously happy to be front row, but I just didn't know how it was going to play out from there.
"There at the end, you're just trying to give the right pushes to get clear and then maybe he starts blocking lanes and something would open up for me. I was just kind of jammed up there."
The last five laps saw a fiery duel between Cindric and Preece with Larson pushing Cindric from behind. This meant Larson couldn't push forward without the risk of going backwards.
"I will take a third-place finish. We had a great day, points-wise, for this No. 5 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet team. Winning the first stage was a bit unexpected, and then finishing third in the second stage from where we were on the final restart was also unexpected.
"Just a really good day, overall, for the No. 5 HendrickCars.com Chevy."

Kai Trump, the granddaughter of President Donald Trump and an emerging figure in junior golf, revealed she visited an eye doctor after recent troubles with putting. Why It Matters Kai Trump, 18, is gaining attention as an aspiring golfer with a rapidly growing social media following. As the daughter of Donald Trump Jr., her presence in both sports and social media makes her journey significant to fans, critics and the golfing community. AP What To Know In her August 2 vlog, Kai Trump told her viewers: "I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow because I have not been able to see out of my I haven't been putting well recently and I stopped putting well when my eyesight got really bad." "So, I'm hoping, maybe if I get some better contacts for myself, I can start reading it better," she said. She explained that she has an astigmatism in one eye, which has made it increasingly hard to focus visually, likening her vision to "when a camera won't focus." Kai Trump then filmed herself from the doctor's office and said: "My prescription has gotten so much worse. I was shocked." After the appointment, Kai purchased new glasses and new lenses, which she hopes will improve her putting performance. Kai's eye troubles come amid a high-profile period in her golf career. Earlier in 2025, she faced criticism after finishing last at the Sage Valley Invitational. However, she rebounded at the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour Major Championship, posting substantially improved rounds and narrowly missing out on victory. She wrote on Instagram, "Not the result I wanted but happy with the progress I am making! Let's get back to work." What People Are Saying Kai Trump, at the 2024 Republican National Convention: "My name is Kai Madison Trump. I am the granddaughter of Donald Trump. I'm speaking today to share the side of my grandpa that people don't often see. To me, he's just a normal grandpa. He gives us candy and soda when our parents aren't looking. He always wants to know how we're doing in school. When I made the high honor roll, he printed it out to show his friends how proud he was of me. I know." Two-time U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau previously said that Kai Trump's game is "pure skill." What Happens Next Kai Trump is continuing to update her substantial social media following on her golf journey. Given her recent surge in public attention—stemming from both sporting achievements and her high-profile family connections—her progress will likely remain under scrutiny, especially as she competes in upcoming junior golf tournaments.

F1 Summer Shutdown: Why Teams Can't Touch Their Cars

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Following the Hungarian Grand Prix, Formula One heads into the summer break for the next three weeks, until August 29, marking the first long break for drivers and teams since the Christmas break after the 2024 season. However, for two weeks out of the three, none of the teams can work on their cars. Given the hectic 24-race calendar that sees drivers and teams operating at their limit, F1's governing body, the FIA, has set a two-week summer shutdown period for all teams where they are not permitted to develop their car, design car parts, use the wind tunnel, or conduct meetings. F1 teams are free to choose any 14-day window in the entire summer break, but they must confirm the start and end dates to the FIA. The mandate has been put in place by the governing body to allow team members of all ranks to take time off. As a result, teams found violating the rule are liable to receive a penalty. However, teams are allowed to support other projects that are not connected to F1. In addition, they are also allowed to work on heavily damaged cars that were damaged in the race before the shutdown, but only after written permission has been obtained from the FIA. F1 heads into a much-needed break after 14 rounds, with the eventful Hungarian Grand Prix confirming that the final championship battle will more than likely be between McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. While the latter leads the Drivers' Standings with 284 points, Norris is placed second with a gap of just 9 points. Norris maintained a strong lead in the second half of the race at the Hungaroring after Piastri and Charles Leclerc pitted. McLaren's flawless one-stop strategy worked in his favor, despite Piastri's aggressive charge in the last four laps on fresher tires. Speaking after securing his fifth victory of the season, Norris said: "I'm dead. I'm dead. It was tough. We weren't really planning on the one-stop, but after the first lap, it was kind of our only option to get back into things. "The final stint with Oscar catching, I was pushing flat out. Rewarding even more because of that. The perfect result today. "I didn't think it would get us the win, I thought it would get us maybe into second. I knew if I had clean air and could push, I could maybe make things work, and that's what we did. "It always is a bit of a gamble these kind of things. It also requires no mistakes, good laps, good strategy, and that's what we had today." He added: "We're so tightly fought it's hard to say if momentum is on anyone's side. "It's tough but fun racing against Oscar. Credit to Oscar he put up a good charge and I just about held on."
