Cairo Airport hits record high with 102,108 passengers in one day
The milestone reflects the airport's growing capacity to meet rising travel demand and underscores its operational efficiency as Egypt's primary gateway and a strategic regional hub.
Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny hailed the achievement as a testament to the ministry's strategic plan, which focuses on modernizing airport infrastructure, expanding capacity, and enhancing service quality across Egypt's aviation sector. He noted that the plan aims to position Cairo International Airport as a leading air transport hub in both the Middle East and Africa.
El-Hefny added that Egypt is entering a new phase of airport development, with greater involvement from the private sector, to keep pace with global aviation trends and meet projected increases in passenger traffic. The goal, he said, is to double Cairo Airport's annual capacity to 60 million passengers in line with Egypt Vision 2030.
Ayman Fawzy Arab, Chairperson of the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation (EHAAN), praised the airport's continuous improvement in handling growing air traffic. He emphasized the commitment to adopting advanced technologies and enhancing logistical services to provide a world-class travel experience for all passengers.
Meanwhile, Cairo Airport Company Chairperson Magdy Ishaq confirmed that all airport facilities were operating at peak readiness to accommodate the surge in traffic and incoming tourism. Emergency plans, logistical services, and staffing protocols were fully activated across all terminals to ensure smooth operations and top-tier service delivery.

Egypt: SCZone signs $52.6mln deals with Chinese companies for textile projects
Arab Finance: The General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) signed three contracts for new projects with Chinese companies specializing in the textile and ready-made garment industry, according to a statement. As a part of the SCZone's first roadshow for fiscal year (FY) 2025/2026 in China, the authority's Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dien penned the deals with a total value of $52.6 million (EGP 2.58 billion). These projects are expected to contribute to providing 3,500 direct job opportunities. Changzhou East Noah Printing and Dyeing Co. Ltd. will develop a textile facility on an area of 80,000 square meters, with an investment of $20 million, fully self-financed by the company. The project will provide around 1,000 direct job opportunities. The facility covers all stages of textile production, from ultra-fine polyester fiber yarns through knitting, printing, and dyeing, to final finishing. It will produce blankets, bedding sets, and quilts, with a daily production capacity of 80 tons and an annual capacity of up to 8 million pieces of home textiles. The factory will allocate 90% of its production for export, while the remaining 10% will meet the local market's needs. Meanwhile, the second project will be built by Changzhou Golden Spring Textile, a China-based integrated textile company, with an investment of $24 million. Spanning an area of 85,000 square meters within the Qantara West Industrial Zone, the project will secure 1,000 jobs. The factory aims to produce blankets, bedding sets, and quilted comforters, with an annual capacity of 15,800 tons of fabric, in addition to 2 million sets of finished products. It will export 90% of its output to the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, and the Americas, while allocating 10% to the local market. Jiangsu Sainty Corporation Ltd. is set to establish a ready-made garment factory in the Qantara West Industrial Zone, on an area of 40,000 square meters, with investments totaling $8.6 million. The project aims to provide 1,500 direct job opportunities, directing its full production to export to foreign markets. Gamal El-Dien highlighted that the three agreements bring the number of Chinese projects contracted within the Qantara West Industrial Zone to 18. He added that the textile sector is a priority sector that the authority aims to localize within its industrial scope, given its ability to integrate with feeder industries and provide job opportunities. Currently, the total number of contracted projects in the Qantara West Industrial Zone stands at 28, with a total investment of nearly $734.1 million. These projects cover a total area of 1.794 million square meters, providing 38,455 direct job opportunities. © 2020-2023 Arab Finance For Information Technology. All Rights Reserved. This phase is based on a proposal prepared by a team from QCAA and Qatar's national carrier. In addition, the second phase will continue the training of Egyptian air traffic controllers on the Free Route Airspace (FRA) system, which helps reduce flight duration and increase airspace capacity. In his address at the conference, Al-Hajri stated that this initiative is one of several landmark efforts that reflect the State of Qatar's strong and ongoing commitment to advancing the civil aviation sector and fostering regional and international cooperation in this vital field. He added that the initiative to shorten air routes over Egyptian airspace is the result of fruitful and constructive collaboration between the QCAA and the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority. It aims to enhance air traffic efficiency, reduce congestion, and shorten flight times, delivering clear economic and environmental benefits. This initiative also embodies Qatar's vision of being an active partner in the global development of air navigation systems and reaffirms the country's dedication to achieving sustainability in the aviation industry and reducing carbon emissions, in line with the priorities and objectives of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). He concluded by expressing his appreciation to the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority for their constructive cooperation, swift responsiveness, and shared commitment to the success of this pioneering initiative - a reflection of the strong ties between the two nations and a clear demonstration of a shared determination to achieve greater integration in the civil aviation sector. He further emphasized that QCAA will continue pursuing similar initiatives with a number of regional and international partners, with the goal of ensuring safe and efficient air navigation across key global transit zones and reinforcing Qatar's position as a leading international hub for civil aviation. HE Egyptian Civil Aviation Minister Dr. Sameh El-Hefny affirmed the strength of relations and cooperation between Egypt and the State of Qatar in the field of civil aviation, noting that they represent a model of regional integration based on mutual respect and mutual understanding. His Excellency explained that this cooperation between the two countries is based on the bilateral air transport agreement, supported by several memoranda of understanding related to increasing passenger and air cargo flights and facilitating access to Egyptian airports, in line with the growth of air traffic. The Egyptian Civil Aviation Minister added that this project is a strategic step towards strengthening the infrastructure of Egyptian airspace, enhancing Egypt's position as a regional hub for aviation traffic, and simultaneously supporting the country's sustainable environmental efforts in the aviation sector. His Excellency expressed Egypt's aspiration for further cooperation with the State of Qatar in the areas of aviation safety, technical training, and expertise exchange, which would contribute to enhancing sustainable growth and modernizing operational mechanisms in the aviation sector in both countries. He expressed his hope that this meeting would yield fruitful results that would pave the way for a broader and deeper partnership in the field of civil aviation between the two sides.
