Modest townhouse home to unexpected Harry Potter magic inside

Daily Mirror13-05-2025
Tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac, a three-storey pebbledash townhouse blends seamlessly with its neighbours - but once you step inside, it's obvious it's a world apart. As you open the door to the light-filled hallway, you're welcomed by a duplicate of the iconic Platform 9 3⁄4, devised by JK Rowling in her phenomenally successful Harry Potter series.
The tale of the young wizard unfolded over seven books, which were subsequently adapted into eight blockbuster films at Leavesden Studios in London. After the film production wrapped up, a studio tour was launched, offering fans an insider's view into the making of the movies, complete with detailed sets and original props.
To celebrate my niece's 10th birthday, we organised a surprise trip to London to experience the tour and let her live out all her Hufflepuff fantasies.
My sister-in-law discovered The Wizarding House on Airbnb, a townhouse that has been meticulously transformed into a stylish and chic homage to all things Harry Potter.
The faux Platform 9 3⁄4 in the entrance is just the beginning, and it sets the scene perfectly. It even features suitcases vanishing halfway through the wall as though they're journeying into the magical wizarding world.
The ground floor houses a spacious kitchen-diner. With its soothing grey floor tiles, light grey cupboards and a blue kitchen island, the references to the beloved franchise are more understated here, but no less impactful.
A hefty wooden table seating eight is flanked by fabric banners representing the Hogwarts Houses, as well as a large framed print of the iconic school.
A model of the Hogwarts Express - the red and black locomotive that transports students to their lessons in the colossal castle - is displayed in a glass case.
Underneath the staircase, there's a cupboard which flawlessly replicates Harry Potter's pitiful excuse for a bedroom during his time with his heartless aunt and uncle, the Dursleys. It even features potion books and Harry's miniature army figures.
The meticulous attention to detail is striking - the melamine cups are colour-coded to match the Hogwarts houses of Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin - and even the plates and utensils storage jar bear Harry Potter themes.
French doors open onto a spacious, tranquil garden rounding off the ground floor. Ascending upstairs, the corridor is decked out with paintings, wands and signs evoking the revered corridors of Hogwarts.
On the first floor lies the living room, modelled after Sirius Black's ancestral home at 12 Grimmauld Place, complete with a wallpaper replica of the Black family tree tapestry - right down to certain members' faces being blotted out in black.
There's a large, snug corner sofa, spellbooks, Lego models and more to thrill any Harry Potter enthusiast.
The bedroom on this level is styled in the vein of Slytherin - think moody black and dark green hues with plenty of references to the serpent.
The top floor boasts two more bedrooms - one inspired by Gryffindor and the other by the 'avis' spell which summons birds - both of which are utterly enchanting. The Gryffindor room is filled with a collection of wands and numerous props that pay homage to the magical universe.
The shower room on this level is designed in the style of the Ministry of Magic, featuring forest green tiles with black grout, and an abundance of 'wanted' posters.
We were absolutely amazed by the meticulous attention to detail in the décor and styling - especially my niece, who was completely captivated by every single element and twist. I don't think I've ever seen her quite so excited.
The hosts even organised balloons and a message mimicking the Hogwarts acceptance letter to welcome her to the property, a truly thoughtful, sweet gesture that enhanced her experience.
The Airbnb is just a 15-minute stroll from the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in Leavesden, making it ideally located for those eager to have a home away from home while completing the tour.
I'd certainly recommend booking for the Harry Potter enthusiasts in your life.

Walmart sends shoppers wild as they slash price of everyone's favorite childhood toy

Daily Mail journalists select and curate the products that feature on our site. If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission - learn more A LEGO enthusiast's latest search for deals at Walmart turned up big savings on fan-favorite sets. Shopping expert Angel Madison spotted popular sets on sale for up to 62 percent off. Some, including a personal favorite of Madison's, were down to as little as $5. 'I've done the work of scouring the Walmart website for deals at all price ranges, so you can grab a birthday gift or treat yourself in a major way,' she wrote for Country Living. 'If you are a truly last-minute shopper (like me) and even two-day shipping is too long, you can order most of these online, and pick it up at a store near you without leaving the car.' In-store, Madison follows a simple rule of thumb for LEGO sales: Aim for over 20 percent off on small to mid-size sets under $100, and look for 10 percent or more off on larger sets. 'LEGO sets are typically priced based on how many bricks are in the set, and for me, this over $30 and under $100 range is the sweet spot,' she explained. 'They are easy enough to build in a night, while still making an impressive addition to any book shelf.' The 62 percent off star of Madison's list is the Botanicals Field Flowers. 'I love dandelions, and currently have four of these in a bouquet because I buy them whenever I see them under $10,' she revealed. Customers looking for a more adult botanical set may also be interested in the plum blossom, a popular pick available for $24. 'Right now they are $5, and can be assembled in just a few minutes. I've already added another set to my cart.' She also praised the Peppa Pig DUPLO set, the $24 item suitable for children ages two and up that can float. While Madison did not reveal if she owns the Peppa Pig product, she proudly showed off two other favorites: the Disney and Pixar Up House and the Moana 2 HeiHei, which start at $38 and $32 respectively. 'The Up house proudly sits by my desk, and looks so fun with the colorful balloons on top,' she wrote, adding that the Moana HeiHei was 'a blast to assemble.' LEGO fans who aren't interested in Disney films can also purchase the Wicked Elphaba and Glinda duo, which costs $44 now that it's 20 percent off. Walmart shopper Angel Madison spotted fan favorite LEGO toys on sale for up to 62 percent off Besides the simple products, Madison revealed the must-have products that are worth looking at. 'The hard-to-find Back to the Future DeLorean is on sale, and it is one that I've seen sell out before,' she revealed. She also praised the Harry Potter castle set, which costs $141 when its 17 percent discount is applied. Out of all the products Madison has mentioned, the $180 A-Frame Cabin is her dream come true set, with 'charming details' like trees and animals. If Walmart sells out, shoppers can still find these sets at LEGO stores and .

Music Wins Returns: The Festival That Redefined How We Experience Music in Buenos Aires

After four years, the most beloved festival of the alternative scene is back to turn up the volume on Buenos Aires' cultural calendar. On Sunday, November 2nd at Mandarine Park, an edition that doesn't play it safe is coming: it brings an international lineup with its own weight, aesthetic identity, and a carefully curated spirit. In a city where the music scene keeps growing and diversifying, Music Wins stands out as a different experience: a festival that doesn't follow trends — it anticipates them. Which Bands Are Playing at Music Wins Festival Among the highlights, Massive Attack arrives from Bristol with an audiovisual show in collaboration with United Visual Artists, promising to be as political as it is hypnotic. Following them are the legendary Primal Scream, making their triumphant return to Buenos Aires, and Tash Sultana, with their arsenal of instruments and loops defying any label. Also performing are the French synth-pop elegance of L'Impératrice (designed to make you move), The Whitest Boy Alive (the Scandinavian precision of Erlend Øye in a band format), and Yo La Tengo, eternal lo-fi icons with a sensitivity that shakes your soul. Is there more? Yes, of course. Joining the lineup is FCUKERS, an emerging gem with global projection, and soon the local acts completing the roster will be announced, maintaining the Argentine and diverse spirit that has always characterized the festival. In its fourth edition, Music Wins not only confirms that it's alive but proves there is another way to experience live music — beyond algorithms, easy hits, or fleeting hype. In a context where Buenos Aires' scene vibrates and reinvents itself, this festival is the place to be if you love music as a total experience. Time Out Buenos Aires is the official media partner of the Music Wins Festival taking place on November 2nd. And here's a tip: tickets are available here. If you have a Visa BBVA card, set your alarm for Thursday, August 7th at 10 a.m. to take advantage of the exclusive presale (yes, with 6 interest-free installments). For everyone else, general sales start Friday, August 8th at the same time.

Top gift ideas for Mother's Day

Tied with tradition and layered with meaning, the day marks the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, hence the wave of blue that sweeps across everything from clothing to gift wrapping. The colour, along with the jasmine flower (dok mali), has become synonymous with the occasion – symbols of grace and purity offered in admiration and respect by grateful offspring to mummy-dearest. In contemporary times though it's about reinterpreting iconic elements like garlands, florals and soft blues into gifts that feel personal, thoughtful and anything but basic. So instead of reaching for the usual last-minute bouquet, the following suggestions take the familiar symbols of Thai Mother's Day and give them a contemporary twist. Respectful doesn't have to mean boring – you can celebrate matriarchs this Mother's Day with myriad gifts that combine meaning and modernity. Flowers, bouquets and garlands Flowers might be the classic Mother's Day move but that doesn't mean you have to play it safe. In Thai culture, the jasmine garland (phuang malai) is a time-honoured symbol of purity, love and deep respect. It's given by the child to the mother as a powerful gesture of gratitude. Brands like Flower in Hand by P, 1000malai, Loca Flowers and Ivy & Pollen are turning tradition into art. They're crafting garlands that go beyond the usual – a mix of florals, textures and unexpected details made just for Mother's Day. Each piece is exclusive, expressive and designed to say more than words ever could. Baked goodies Now for something sweet. We're talking confections made with precision so fine they're almost too pretty to eat: they're the kind of gift that speaks for you. It only takes a bit of thought to turn something beautiful into something personal. After all, just knowing your mother's favourite flavours shows that you've been paying attention, and that's the part she'll love most. Thai pastries bring more than flavour to the table though – they bring feeling. At Summer Forest that sentiment shines through in custom cakes with edible photo prints paired with a Mother's Day-ready set that includes a floral garland. Meanwhile, Little Hideout Patisserie leans into French classics, presenting desserts adorned with lace-like floral decorations – delicate touches that feel just right for celebrating Mum. Scented essentials Thailand's scented scene offers plenty of ways to bottle up affection. Long associated with Thai motherhood, jasmine often takes centre stage – its gentle notes stirring calm and quiet nostalgia with every inhalation. And when it comes to packaging, the same care is applied: each item is thoughtfully wrapped and often looks just as striking as the scent inside. From artisanal candles to perfume oils and room sprays, these fragrant essentials feel like love letters in a bottle. Thai brands have captured the signature scent of jasmine in their own distinct ways. Panpuri's Siamese Water pairs jasmine with crisp mint and citrus for a clean and enervating modern take. Garland by Journal channels the soft femininity of a traditional Thai offering, while Bath & Bloom's Thai Jasmine stays rooted in purity, delivering a timeless floral profile. Each interpretation sets a different mood but all honour jasmine's deep ties to love and tradition. For something that lasts beyond the day and prolongs the personal vibe, look to pieces that carry a story, a sense of craft or a touch of everyday charm. Thai designers continue to turn heritage into keepsakes. Scarves take on new life through brands like Jim Thompson and Naraya, where classic Thai silk is reinterpreted in elegant, enduring designs. Tote bags from Slowstitch studio and Marionsiam offer a more earth-conscious perspective, celebrating natural dyes, handwoven textures and traditional techniques through a modern, sustainable lens. On the jewellery front, Sarran leans into soft femininity, transforming floral details into sculptural pieces. Rooted in themes of motherhood and womanhood, the brand honours the quiet strength and beauty of maternal love, making its creations especially meaningful for the occasion. Shependence, by contrast, embraces a minimalist ethos with clean-lined gold and silver pieces that empower through simplicity. Their photo lockets, designed to hold tiny family portraits, offer a deeply intimate sentimental touch.
