BJP will win 130 seats if assembly polls are held now: BYV

Mysuru: State BJP president BY Vijayendra on Sunday claimed the party would win 130 seats in the state under his leadership if elections were held to the assembly now. He also said he gave special focus to winning more seats in the Old Mysuru region. He was speaking after inaugurating the Viksith Bharath Sankalp convention organised by the dstrict BJP unit, which was held to mark 11 years of the Modi govt. He said he would make efforts to strengthen the party by touring across the state and highlighting the failures of the Congress govt in the next two years. "I will not rest until bringing the party to power," he said, adding that the party also made preparations to win a majority of seats in the upcoming ZP, TP panchayat elections in the state. Vijayendra also challenged the Congress leaders, stating he was ready to take part in an open debate over the issue of initiating development works for Mysore-Chamarajanagar districts, comparing the present Congress and previous BJP govts. He criticised the state Congress govt, which came to power with the assurance of implementing guarantee schemes. However, he claimed that development works took a backseat in the state due to a paucity of funds, as the govt focused only on guarantee schemes, neglecting development. CM Siddaramaiah, who came to power by levelling false corruption charges against the BJP govt, has now exposed his corrupt face, Vijayendra said, contending that Siddaramaiah and his family members were involved in Muda and other scams. Now, the state govt has planned to loot money by announcing the distribution of food kits instead of providing rice to Anna Bhagya beneficiaries, he said. Siddaramaiah, who claims to be a champion of OBCs, is indulging in the appeasement of Muslims for vote bank, he said. Vijayendra also stated that PM Modi was taking the nation forward by maintaining transparency in administration and putting an end to corruption. Now, India has emerged as the fourth-largest economy in the world under his leadership. The Union govt, committed to the welfare of farmers, successfully rolled out the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, providing Rs 6,000 incentives in three instalments for small and marginal farmers, and is now providing 1.5 lakh crore subsidy grants for the promotion of agriculture and empowerment of farmers. MP Yaduveer Wadiyar asked BJP workers to shun their individual differences and work together to bring the party to power. He said BJP would win a comfortable majority even if mid-term polls were declared in the state, as the people were upset by maladministration, corruption, scams, and the increase in the price of essential commodities. Rural BJP president Kumbralli Subbanna, city president L Nagendra, former MP Pratap Simha, MLA T Srivatsa, and others were present.

‘Not head of OBC Advisory Council,' says Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah ahead of July 15 Bengaluru meeting of Congress body

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Sunday denied reports of his appointment as the head of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Other Backward Classes (OBC) Advisory Council. The first meeting of the Council is scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on July 15. Speaking to reporters a day after reports of his appointment surfaced, Siddaramaiah said that though he had seen it in the papers, he was not aware of his appointment as chairman. 'I will talk to the high command today (Sunday),' he said. Siddaramaiah told the media that he was not aware of what his position would be in the Council. 'The AICC OBC wing president had asked me to hold a meeting (of the unit) in Karnataka. So, I arranged for it on July 15,' Siddaramaiah said, replying in the negative on whether this meant his entry in national politics. Subsequently, the Chief Minister's Office put out a statement dismissing reports of his appointment as head of the Council. 'No such appointment has taken place. Siddaramaiah is a member of the OBC Advisory Council. The meeting of the Advisory Council will be held under AICC OBC wing president Dr Anil Jaihind on July 15 at Bengaluru,' the statement read. The 24-member Council formed by AICC has former CMs such as Ashok Gehlot, Bhupesh Baghel, and Veerappa Moily in its ranks, and is formed to chalk out a strategy to secure support from OBCs for the party.

Siddaramaiah has already been given a message to quit State politics, says Joshi

I think the Congress appointed Siddaramaiah to its national OBC cell to make him to quit the Chief Minister's post, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said in Hubballi on Sunday. 'It is not clear why the Chief Minister has been appointed to the national-level team. I think it is a message asking him to quit State-level politics and go to Delhi. However, I do not think he will succeed in his new role. A leader who is unable to handle political affairs at the State-level will not be able to achieve anything significant at the national level,' Mr. Joshi told reporters. 'On the other hand, Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC president D.K. Shivakumar has been going around saying that he will be the next Chief Minister. But then, he seems to have changed his mind recently. He is making philosophical statements of renouncing political power,' Mr. Joshi said. Mr. Joshi criticised Mr. Siddaramaiah's statement about a connection between COVID-19 vaccine and heart attacks in young people, as unscientific. 'It is an irresponsible statement. It is an insult to the country. Over 150 nations are using COVID-19 vaccines. The whole world has praised the vaccine-makers of India. People in responsible positions should not make such statement,' Mr. Joshi said. 'The Chief Minister has taken the vaccine. Was it Indian or foreign? Is he criticising the vaccine just because it was promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi? Mr. Siddaramaiah should tender a public apology for his anti-vaccine statement,' Mr. Joshi said. 'The Congress leaders have made such irresponsible and insulting statement in the past too. They insulted the country during the war with Pakistan,' he said. He said that Congress legislators, including Basavaraj Rayaraddi, are saying that there is no money for development as all the funds are spent on guarantees. 'Yesterday, Shiggaon MLA Nasir Khan Pathan also made a similar statement during a public programme. I was present there. It is unfortunate that the Congress government is not doing any development work,' Mr. Joshi said.
