Detectives These Days Are Crazy! – Season 1 Episode 2 Recap & Review
Episode 2 of Detectives These Days Are Crazy begin with Mashiro and Magumo freaked out watching a ghost documentary together. Mashiro has never really been able to handle this, and challenges Magumo's nonchalant attitude, asking if he could actually walk through the graveyard naked at night.
They're interrupted though by the doorbell going. It's Hayashida, one of Mashiro's classmates. He's here for a request. A ghost keeps showing up at his house and he needs the detectives to help them out. Hayashida has a cheap surveillance camera that seems to show something horrific but he's not sure what.
Mashiro is freaked and struggles to hold it together, while Magumo is convinced this is some sort of prank. Mashiro eventually holds it together, remembering her coach's advice to always go for the knees when it comes to ghosts. Quite how or why her coach is teaching her how to defeat spirits though is hilariously left unclear!
The duo need to approach this with speed, and after seeing footage from the camera, Magumo tasks her with trying to catch the ghost before it disappears. Mashiro speed-runs her way through the days, but to no avail.
Magumo soon figures it out, and realizes that it's actually Hayashida dressing as a ghost and distorting the footage without them noticing via r emote control in his pocket.
Magumo actually figured this out on the first night but he waited this long because he's figured that Hayashida has a thing for Mashiro. He knows he's trying to find an excuse to talk to her and get close. Hayashida apologizes and that's the end of this case!
Find the Real Thief!
Some time later, Nagumo is arrested on suspicion of stealing underwear. At the station, he's interviewed by Chief Inspect Mimasaka. These two actually go way back, given he and Magumo used to be high school detectives together but alas, the pair's fates have changed.
Mimasaka doesn't believe he's the real thief but he does have an SD card containing footage recorded from the victims. Magumo isn't really aware of what this card is, and even worse, the footage definitely shows him on there. However, he believes someone is trying to frame him.
It's all up to Mashiro and Nezu to try and figure this out and save Nagumo. Well, with a trap sprung involving white underwear, they manage to track down this guy who looks very much like Nagumo, but with a slightly different complexion.
He winds up stealing Mashiro's underwear while she's trying to stop him and she's obviously mortified as a result. Mashiro eventually manages to catch the thief but he's beaten and in a pretty rough state when she arrives at the station.
Three Minutes Until Mashiro Explodes
We then cut to Mashiro capturing serial arsonist, Knit Man in the third and final case of the episode. At the station, he's interviewed and tells them to check out parking lot #1 for some of his 'art'. Knit Man happens to have a bomb ready and primed to go.
Mashiro takes a selfie with it while sending her picture to the station, which is pretty funny, and she decides to try and disarm it herself.
Having seen disarming scenes in movies, she takes inspiration from this and tries to cut the wires. However, there's way too many and she grows flustered.
Grabbing the bomb, Mashiro takes off and decides to let it detonate by kicking it right into the stadium… where Nezu happens to be taking photos. The bomb explodes and Nezu is caught in the blast. RIP Nezu!
The Episode Review
Detectives These Days Are Crazy! returns this week with a crazy trio of cases all jumbled up into one. It seems this anime is leaning hard into the comedic angle, and intending to try and throw as many of these different scenes as it can into each chapter to keep up the comedy shenanigans.
The meme faces are definitely a mainstay here, while each of these cases work to develop Mashiro as a character. Nagumo is still here of course, with the first case involving the ghost working to show how he still has excellent powers of deduction. However, Mashiro is the main draw of the show and she's undoubtedly a little firecracker, throwing herself head-first into every case.
Of course, some of this comedy also comes at the expense of toilet and pervy humour, with the second case revolving around underwear. However, the show never dwells too much on any one style, leaning into rapid-fire pacing and throwing as many jokes and memes as possible instead.
The show is definitely weird and unique, but whether that's enough to keep people invested long-term is still to be decided.

Hunter with a Scalpel – K-drama Episode 14 Recap & Review
Episode 14 Episode 14 of Hunter with a Scalpel begins with the press conference. Se-hyun describes how, from the age of five to ten, she was forced to assist her father in his murders. She lists all the cases and even describes Se-eun, who she wants to save. Yoon Jo-kyun watches the press conference and then looks at Se-eun suspiciously. At the hospital, the detectives share a warm reunion with Jung-hyun. They discuss how Se-hyun's confession isn't concrete proof and she could still be an accomplice to Jo-kyun. But Jung-hyun seems to believe her. Meanwhile, Se-eun considers the watch that Se-hyun gave her and tries to charge it. Se-hyun then visits Jung-hyun. Jung-hyun has her notebook and Se-hyun describes her happy days with Eun-seo. She explains how they ran away and mentions that Eun-seo died, although she's vague on the details. She then collapsed and was found by mountain climbers, who sent her to the orphanage. Jung-hyun then asks her to not finish things alone but to let him help her. Jo-kyun then enters the hospital and puts on a doctor's coat to disguise himself. As Se-hyun is leaving Jung-hyun's room, Jo-kyun pulls her aside. He gives her one last chance to run away with him. If not, he will kill Se-eun as well as Se-hyun's mother. Se-hyun is about to take his hand when a guard suddenly shows up and Jo-kyun leaves. However, a reporter recognises him and decides to follow him. At the police station, Jin-woo tells the others that Se-hyun has passed a lie detector test and also has an alibi for the first two murders. The detectives then discuss Jo-kyun's route and that he is probably going to escape via ship at Yeongpo. Meanwhile, the reporter follows Jo-kyun but eventually loses sight of him. He then sees Se-eun returning from a grocery store and follows her all the way to their hideout. Unfortunately, Jo-kyun takes him by surprise and kills him. A flashback shows Eun-seo and Se-eun running in the forest when Se-eun suddenly stops. Jo-kyun catches up to them and pushes Eun-seo, who falls and hits her head on a rock. The Episode Review Hunter with a Scalpel Episode 14 continues the chase to catch Yoon Jo-kyun and offers a lot of shifting in the process. Se-hyun gets a chance to tell Jung-hyun the honest truth and the other detectives are finally on the right track, working to catch Jo-kyun. Se-hyun's plan to lure Jo-kyun is a good one but when he does turn up, she doesn't alert the detectives. So, what was the point of the press conference? It's confusing and doesn't make sense, considering what a big deal this entire plan was in the previous episode. The rest of the episode fares a lot better. Flashbacks give us more insight into the past and what happened to Eun-seo and Se-eun. We also see more of what's happening at Jo-kyun and Se-eun's end, which offers more thrills and tension than the police side of things. With only two episode to go though, the series will need to start wrapping things up soon. Previous Episode Next Episode Expect A Full Season Write-Up When This Season Concludes!

Hunter with a Scalpel – K-drama Episode 13 Recap & Review
Episode 13 Episode 13 of Hunter with a Scalpel begins with Eun-seo seeing all the bloodstains inside the van while Se-eun enjoys her birthday gifts. Unfortunately, Choi Min-guk arrives and catches them. Eun-seo throws a liquid into Choi's face, grabs Se-eun's hand and runs into the woods. But as her father's words keep ringing in her ears, Se-eun comes to a stop despite Eun-seo's protests. At present, Jung-hyun and Se-hyun both are rushed to the hospital. The other detectives are there too and Hong Jin-woo realises that Jung-hyun's suspicion about Choi Min-guk was correct. At the police station, Chang-jin finds a photo from the Blue Barrel case of a man named Go Doo-sam. But the man in the picture is none other than Choi Min-guk. Back at the NFS, Doctor Cheon overhears Joon-kyung and Kim Myung-kwan talking about Se-hyun. She realises that Se-hyun never falsified any reports and tries to stand up for her. Meanwhile, Choi Min-guk makes little Se-eun sit with a bucket over her head as punishment for her trying to help Se-hyun. In the hospital, Se-hyun wakes up and we learn that Jung-hyun pulled through as well. Hong jin-woo then finds CCTV footage of Se-hyun hiding her notebook inside a grocery store. He takes it to Se-hyun and begins questioning her, but she stays quiet. The other three detectives go to Haryong to look into the Blue Barrel Case. On the way, they discuss how Choi Min-guk must have faked a limp all this time. While questioning the residents of the town, a woman tells the detectives that Choi Min-guk was not Go Doo-sam. His real name is Yoon Jo-kyun. He was in a relationship with a woman named Lee Jung-mi, but he didn't treat her well. Jung-mi then left her daughter with Jo-kyun and then ran away with Go Doo-sam. Hong keeps trying to question Se-hyun. She agrees to reveal everything if he sets up a press conference. By speaking at the press conference, she explains that Choi Min-guk will come after her and they can catch him. Jung-hyun wakes up in the hospital and sees the press conference on TV. Se-hyun goes up in front of all of the reporters and says she is the daughter of Yoon Jo-kyun, outing both of them as perpetrators of murders all the way from 1999. The Episode Review Hunter with a Scalpel Episode 13 changes things up. Choi Min-guk is on the run, punishing little Se-eun for her disobedience, and Jung-hyun and Se-hyun find themselves in the hospital. Our two main leads are relegated to bed rest here which means Jung-hyun's team takes up a lot of the screen time and action. And it works quite well! With the camaraderie established between Jung-hyun and his team, his colleagues' anger and frustration comes off as genuine and their further investigation of the case keeps things interesting. There's still some confusion around Yoon Jo-kyun's connection with Lee Jung-mi and Go Doo-sam, but I have a feeling that they didn't run away as much as ended up six feet under. With Se-hyun working with the police, I wonder if the show can still keep up the same level of thrill that we got while watching her face off against Jo-kyun. We're in the last leg of the show now, so here's hoping things wrap up on a high note. Previous Episode Next Episode Expect A Full Season Write-Up When This Season Concludes!
