#SHOWBIZ: Indonesian comedian says Western-style 'roastings' are not appropriate here
In an interview with Harian Metro yesterday, Cak Lontong said that if "roasting" is carried out with tact, responsibility, and a full awareness of local sensitivities, it might be accepted by Eastern audiences.
"Standards of comedy vary across different regions. Stand-up comedians must always be mindful of local sensitivities," he said.
Cak Lontong, whose real name is Lies Hartono, noted that Europeans and North Americans tend to be more "free-spirited" and "open-minded" regarding comedy, possessing fewer "cultural taboos" compared to Asians.
"In the East, politeness and respect for local culture must be emphasised."
He added that comedians in Malaysia and Indonesia should steer clear of sensitive topics such as cultural norms, religious norms, and even reverence for certain public figures.
"Comedians living in multi-religious and multi-racial societies like Indonesia and Malaysia must always navigate local sensitivities carefully to avoid causing outrage."
Cak Lontong was speaking at a gala screening of the Indonesian film 'Gerbang Setan,' directed by Toto Hoedi, which is set to be released in cinemas on Aug 7.

KUALA LUMPUR: "Enough with airing your ex-husband's dirty laundry. There's no need to gain people's sympathy by using my name." This was the reaction of actress Miera Leyana, 31, when asked to comment on the ongoing court case involving her husband, entrepreneur Rosland Othman, 52, and his former first wife, Adibah Abdul Mutalib, 52. Miera said that the protracted legal dispute involving her husband and Adibah had negatively impacted her reputation within the local entertainment scene. The actress, who won Best Supporting Actress at the 2013 Anugerah Skrin for the film Pecah, expressed that her standing had been tarnished due to her association with the case. "I have won awards in the arts industry, but my reputation is now tainted by such a personal issue. "I have also slowly started to become an 'influencer' with several international brands. "But with my husband's court case still pending, my work has also been disrupted. "Her (Adibah's) statements to the media could also damage my good name and that of my family. "Stop airing your ex-husband's dirty laundry and move on with your life," she told Harian Metro. The Apokalips X and Lebuhraya Ke Neraka actress also highlighted that her priority now is her husband and two growing children. "My children's mental health is more important. My children are growing up, and this issue can't be erased, nor can what she (Adibah) said to the media regarding her husband. "When the children grow up, they will read the news reports about their father, and I want to protect my children's emotions," said the mother of two. Regarding the claims for child support, iddah, and muta'ah maintenance filed by Adibah, Miera stated that while Adibah can claim what she deems appropriate, the court should ultimately decide. "If you are not satisfied with the divorce case, sue in court. There is no need to issue a statement that disgraces your ex-husband and family. "Don't use my name to get publicity because you're not even an artiste. "When you make a statement that exposes your ex-husband's disgrace to the media, it also disturbs the emotions of your own children," she said. Previously, after successfully obtaining permanent custody of her three children in February, Adibah filed a claim for child support, iddah support (post-divorce maintenance), and muta'ah (consolatory gift) against Rosland at the Putrajaya Syariah Lower Court on June 25.

Indonesian boy goes viral for boat race moves, named tourism ambassador [WATCH]
KUALA LUMPUR: Social media has a peculiar way of turning the obscure into global trends, as seen in the case of an Indonesian boy whose commanding presence during a Pacu Jalur boat race went viral and captured the hearts of people worldwide. Rayyan Arkan Dikha, or Dika, 11, was recorded moving rhythmically at the tip of a long wooden boat during the Pacu Jalur festival in Kuantan Singingi. Wearing a black traditional outfit and sunglasses, his composed expression and deliberate gestures drew massive attention online, leading to countless remakes, memes and tributes. The clip quickly turned into a global trend, catching the attention of sports personalities and celebrities. American football star Travis Kelce, Formula One driver Alex Albon, and football players from Paris Saint-Germain were among those who uploaded their own versions of Dika's moves. According to BBC Indonesia, Dika had not planned the dance in advance, it came naturally during the race. As the Togak Luan, his role is to stand at the front of the boat and inspire the rowers with expressive movements while maintaining balance throughout the race. The Pacu Jalur celebration is one of Riau's most important cultural events. Longboats glide along the Batang Kuantan River in front of cheering crowds. The races are accompanied by traditional performances, music, and exhibitions on the riverbanks. In the viral footage, Dika is seen in a Teluk Belanga outfit paired with a Riau-style headcloth. His gestures include sweeping arms, rotating fists, and forward poses, all performed without breaking focus. Despite the surge in popularity, Dika has remained humble. The 11-year-old said he is happy to see people around the world enjoying and imitating the dance. "My friends always tell me I've gone viral," he told BBC Indonesia. In appreciation of his role in preserving cultural heritage, he was named a cultural ambassador last week by the governor of Riau, his home province.
