Alison Steadman has said there's one element of her professional life she won't be doing again, as she gears up to celebrate a milestone.
The Gavin and Stacey star, known for playing Pam Shipman in the much-loved BBC sitcom, turns 79 in August. And, with her 80th fast approaching, there's one aspect of her impressive career that Alison wants to leave in the rear-view mirror.
In other ways, however, she has no intention of slowing down as she gets older. Alison wants to return to work this summer, after suffering a fall in Dubai that left her relying on a wheelchair to get around.
Unfortunately, the injury - the breaking of the metatarsals in her foot - has also meant she's had to "turn down a lot of things".
Yet, her return to acting will omit one specific creative medium, as she's flat-out said she won't be doing it.

When asked about her plans, the actress told Best magazine: "No, I'm not doing theatre again. I love doing the telly and radio, and I've had to turn down a lot of things because of my foot, but that's the way it is. I'll hopefully be back working in the summer, but we'll see."
Meanwhile, the actress also recently revealed that she'd like Gavin and Stacey to return as a film, despite the popular show seemingly coming to an end with a Christmas special in December 2024, titled "The Finale".
Created by James Corden and Ruth Jones (who also star in the show as Smithy and Nessa Jenkins), Gavin and Stacey's final episode attracted more than 19 million viewers.
Despite this, Alison seems keen for the show to make its mark on the silver screen, clarifying that she'd "definitely be up for that" and praising the two writers as "brilliant".
She told Daily Star Sunday: "I'd love it if a film of 'Gavin and Stacey' came up. If it did I'd definitely be up for that. I think it would work as a film, too. Ruth Jones and James Corden are such brilliant writers. I'm sure they could make it work."

Sadly, however, Ruth has previously shut down any notion of the show returning. Speaking to Woman and Home magazine, Ruth dubbed the finale episode a "beautiful ending to a wonderful journey".
The Welsh actress added that she was "delighted" with the response, claiming that they "couldn't have done it any better". Ruth also pointed out that people were "very satisfied" with the end result of the series.
Larry Lamb, who plays Mick Shipman on the show, also believes there are advantages to a cinema version. Speaking previously to the Times, he explained that by putting it in the cinema, they would attract 35 million people and "make all the money over again".

Welsh Labour MP Chris Bryant says he was sexually abused by theatre boss as a teenager
Welsh Labour MP Chris Bryant says he was sexually abused by theatre boss as a teenager The Labour minister said he was left feeling like a '16-year-old whore' by Michael Croft, the head of the prestigious National Youth Theatre Labour Minister Chris Bryant has recounted how he was sexually abused by the disgraced founder of the National Youth Theatre (Image: Visionhaus/Getty Images) Sir Chris Bryant has revealed he was sexually abused as a teenager by the founder of the National Youth Theatre, Michael Croft. The Labour minister became emotional during an interview, describing how he felt like a "16-year-old whore" due to the actions of Mr Croft, who was at the helm of the esteemed drama group. In a conversation with the Sunday Times, Sir Chris Bryant recounted that Mr Croft, who died in 1986, would invite him for dinner every evening when he was part of the company in London during the summer of 1978, at the age of 16. One night, said Sir Chris, he returned from the toilet at Mr Croft's residence to find his host, who was four decades older than him, naked apart from a silk robe. The minster said the abuse left him feeling like a "16-year-old whore" (Image: PA) The MP for Rhondda and Ogmore disclosed that Mr Croft then propositioned him for sex, and he felt he had no choice but to comply, reports the Mirror. Ahead of the launch of his book 'A Life And A Half: The Unexpected Making Of A Politician', Sir Chris admitted: "I don't like telling this very much because I've not told it very often. "It was always the same Italian in King's Cross. He would eat and drink, I would eat, then he would theoretically give me a lift home, except I always ended up at his house." For our free daily briefing on the biggest issues facing the nation, sign up to the Wales Matters newsletter here Sir Chris stated that Mr Croft never made another advance towards him, and they remained friends. As an ordained minister, he even agreed to officiate Mr Croft's funeral. However, he expressed anger over the abuse of power and confessed to internalising the shame. "He behaved absolutely appallingly, it's despicable," Sir Chris said. "Michael, in my case, managed to spot somebody who was gay at a time when nearly all homosexuality was illegal - certainly very frowned on - so presumed that people would keep a secret." He revealed that at least one colleague from his National Youth Theatre days was also abused by Mr Croft. The 63-year-old also disclosed he had been sexually assaulted by five male MPs during his time in Westminster, though he has not identified or reported them. "There was no system for doing so and I was frightened it would make me look bad," he explained. He noted that homophobia in Parliament had decreased during his 24 years as an MP. A statement on the National Youth Theatre website said: "We are grateful to Chris Bryant for disclosing to our team the historical abuse he suffered in the company in the 1970s. We are very sorry that this happened to him and to others who have previously shared with us their accounts of historic abuse by the same perpetrator. "As we set out in a public statement on the case in 2017, we stand in solidarity with all victims of abuse and encourage anyone who has experienced abuse, no matter how long ago, to speak to someone and access support. "In this case the perpetrator has been deceased since 1986, but all reports made to us will be dealt with in accordance with our robust and formalised safeguarding policy and practice. "While Chris writes he doesn't feel damaged by what happened, we recognise that being subjected to an abuse of power can have lasting consequences for many, in different ways. "Anyone getting in touch will be listened to and treated with care and respect by trained professionals, in line with our certified trauma-informed practice. "We are grateful to Chris for his support of our organisation today, and acknowledgement of how different a charity we are in 2025 to the one he encountered in the 1970s, with thorough safeguarding practices and policies in place." Balamory is back on TV screens
Children's favourite Balamory is to return to TV screens with the first new episodes in two decades set to be shown next year. Filming has begun on a new series, which will blend familiar characters such as nursery teacher Miss Hoolie, played by Julie Wilson Nimmo, and PC Plum, portrayed by Andrew Agnew, with a host of new faces. Brand new characters will include scientist and inventor Ava Potts, played by Danielle Jam; the Harbour Master, played by William Andrews; and local vet Dr Ollie, played by Carl Spencer. Filming is underway on location in Tobermory, the real-life town on the Isle of Mull that inspired the show's iconic setting. Two new series have been commissioned, each with ten new 14-minute episodes. The 'revamped series' will air next year on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer. Originally produced in 2002, Balamory was a huge hit with preschool kids over four series before it ended in 2005. The show became a staple of early childhood entertainment, with 'home-grown storytelling' about the much-loved nursery school and the small island community that surrounds it. 'Lovingly reimagined for today's families', the new series promises to 'retain its original spirit while introducing fresh elements to captivate young viewers'. The BBC confirmed that, at its heart, will remain the charming fictional town of Balamory, 'where brightly-coloured houses cluster around a scenic harbour and life revolves around the nursery school and its caring teacher'. Kate Morton, Senior Head of Children's Commissioning 0-6 BBC Children's and Education, said: 'It's wonderful to see some of the original cast returning alongside new faces, creating a perfect mix of nostalgia and discovery for families to enjoy together. 'This vibrant new series will delight both children and the grown-ups who remember it fondly.' PHOTO :Lion Television Scotland / BBC Like this: Like Related
