National Lok Adalat: Over 1.93 lakh cases settled in Telangana, ₹45 crore refunded to cyber fraud victims
The initiative was aimed at encouraging an amicable resolution of disputes through compounding and reducing the burden on courts.
In the run-up to the main day, police units began identifying eligible cases since June 9 and served notices to concerned parties to facilitate timely settlements.
The legal effort spanned a wide array of case categories, with notable achievements in First Information Report (FIR) compounding (22,095 cases), Disaster Management violations (8,922 cases), e-petty cases (84,601), and Motor Vehicle Act violations (71,527).
Hyderabad stood out with the highest number of settlements at 32,171 cases, followed by Rachakonda (21,397), Nalgonda (16,496), Warangal (13,651), and Ramagundam (13,316).
Meanwhile, cyber crime victims received long-awaited financial relief. A total of ₹45.33 crore was refunded in cyber fraud cases, thanks to effective coordination among the Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TGLSA), police, judiciary, and cyber crime units.
Cyberabad led in refunds with ₹13.65 crore returned in 2,276 cases, followed by Hyderabad with ₹14.54 crore across 782 cases, and Rachakonda with ₹9.98 crore in 451 cases.
The Telangana State Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) and Sangareddy district also contributed, refunding ₹5.74 crore and ₹1.42 crore, respectively.
This edition of the National Lok Adalat surpassed the previous one held on March 8, where 1,83,182 compoundable cases had been settled. The rise in number reflects growing public participation and the efficiency of the system in place.

Other employees rushed over. His phone was seized and contained several videos, which HR later deleted in the woman's presence, NDTV reported. The accused has recorded more than 30 videos of different women inside the office washroom, which was present on his mobile phone, according to an internal investigation. This sparked further outrage, particularly after the woman's husband learned of the incident and approached the management. The woman also filed a formal complaint at the Electronic City police station. Following her complaint, based on her statement and the collected evidence, Swapnil was arrested. He now faces serious charges, including invasion of privacy and sexual harassment. Infosys issues an official statement confirming that the employee has been terminated. 'We are aware of this incident and have taken necessary action against the employee, who is now separated from the company,' Infosys said.

BSP leader Armstrong murder: Brother moves Madras High Court seeking CBI probe
The Madras High Court, on Thursday (July 3, 2025) directed the Sembium police in Chennai to file its counter affidavit to a plea seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the murder of former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) state president K. Armstrong on July 5, 2024. Justice P. Velmurugan directed Additional Public Prosecutor R. Muniyapparaj to ensure the counter was filed by July 18 and directed the High Court Registry to list the plea, filed by the late politician's younger brother K. Immanuvel, for further hearing on July 21. The petitioner had sought transfer of the case from Greater Chennai City police to CBI on the ground that there were serious contradictions and material shortcomings in the probe conducted by the Sembium police leading to doubts over the impartial nature of the investigation. In his affidavit, the petitioner complained that the Sembium police had concluded the investigation in October 2024 and filed a 5,000-page charge sheet against 30 named individuals by projecting gang rivalry, and not any political reason, as the sole motive behind the murder. 'Political angles excluded' 'The deceased was an active Dalit rights advocate. Yet, political angles and threats from vested interests have been consciously excluded. The deliberate anchoring of motive to an alleged gang rivalry is an attempt to insulate political perpetrators,' the petitioner told the court. He also brought to the notice of the court that eight armed assailants, disguised as food delivery agents, had hacked the politician to death as reflected in the First Information Report but the police had gone about listing as many as 30 accused in the charge sheet without arresting some of them. Pointing out that the charge sheet itself states that at least two key conspirators were absconding, the petitioner said, the failure to apprehend them 'signifies either collusion, dereliction, or political shielding.' The petitioner also accused the police of having deliberately ignored the statements of key witnesses. He said, the statements given by the Armstrong's wife Porkodi and the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry chairman P.S. Amalraj had not been taken into consideration. 'This selective approach undermines the investigation's objectivity and reveals an attempt to construct a preferred narrative,' he added. The petitioner also relied upon a few Supreme Court decisions to contend that a CBI probe could be ordered even after the city police had completed the investigation and filed a final report before the jurisdictional court.

Kolkata Rape Case: Another Student Accuses Monojit Mishra Of Molestation
A week after Monojit Mishra was arrested for his alleged involvement in the gang rape of a Kolkata law college student, another student has accused him of molestation. The second-year student has accused him of molesting her and threatening her two years ago. According to a report, the victim claimed that the incident took place in October 2023, when she had gone to attend a function. She claimed that the accused, Monojeet Mishra, allegedly barged into an empty room where she had gone to make a phone call and molested and threatened her. Not only this, there have been multiple complaints of molestation, harassment, and extortion lodged against Monojit. Not only girls, but even boys have claimed to have been bullied and harassed by Monojit on campus. Meanwhile, the West Bengal Bar Council has cancelled the license of Monojit Mishra's lawyer and barred him from practicing law. The student was allegedly gang raped inside the South Calcutta Law College in Kasba area in the capital city of West Bengal on June 25. Kolkata High Court on Thursday sought a report from the West Bengal Government on the three Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding the alleged gangrape at the South Calcutta Law College in Kasba area. Earlier, BJP fact-finding committee member Manan Kumar Mishra stated alleged that the police were "hiding" the family of the rape survivor and not allowing anyone to meet the security guard, who is the fourth accused in the incident which took place on June 25 inside the campus of a law college in Kolkata. He further alleged that there was an attempt to "tamper" with the First Information Report to change the name of the accused. Mishra told ANI, "We visited everyone there and met other college staff also. When we saw some documents, it showed that some tampering had been done with the FIR. By looking at the document, it looks like someone attempted to change the name of the accused... We tried to talk to the victim, but it looks like the police are hiding the family of the victim and the family members... The guard is the best witness in this case, but they have also arrested him and are not letting him meet anyone..." "We will submit our report; however, that is a different thing, how the government of Mamata Banerjee will work on this..." he said. The Alipore court had on Tuesday sent the three main accused to police custody till July 8. The Court also sent the security guard, the fourth accused, to custody till July 4. The accused, Monojit, Pramit, and Zaib, will remain in police custody until July 8. The security guard, Pinaki, will be in custody until July 4.
