Shabbir calls for Bahujan unity

Time of India6 days ago
Hyderabad: State govt advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Sunday called upon the Bahujan communities to stand strongly in support of the Congress to save the Constitution from the efforts being made to allegedly change it on the lines of 'Manusmriti'.
Addressing the 'Bahujan Alai-Balai' programme in Kamareddy organised by the All India Ambedkar Yuvajana Sangham, he said it is the foremost responsibility of the Bahujan samaj to protect the Constitution. The BJP's slogan of 'Ab ki baar 400 paar' was countered by Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra.
"Those trying to change the Constitution and bring in 'Manusmriti' will not succeed as long as the Congress is there and Bahujans stand behind the party. For the first time in the country, the Congress govt is going to implement 42% BC reservations in the local bodies," he said.

KTR-Lokesh ‘secret' meeting reflects BRS support to A.P. projects: Bhatti Vikramarka

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka claimed that the 'secret meeting' between BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao and Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh was a conspiracy of the BRS to extend full support to the Banakacherla project. Mr. Vikramarka issued a stern warning over what he called a conspiracy by BRS, BJP and TDP to compromise Telangana's interests in the name of the Banakacherla and Polavaram projects. He was speaking at a public meeting held in Kollapur constituency marking the launch of new electricity substations, the distribution of ration cards and allocation of Indiramma housing pattas. He questioned why the BRS government remained silent on Banakacherla for a decade. 'Only after Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy intervened in Delhi, was the proposal halted,' he said. Referring to A.P. IT Minister Nara Lokesh's comments that Telangana was wasting the flood water, he rebutted that flood water was available for A.P. only because Telangana's upstream projects were never completed. 'Only after securing our rightful needs will Telangana consider any discussion on Banakacherla,' he asserted. Mr. Vikramarka criticised former CM KCR for discarding the Pranahita-Chevella project and instead opting for the Kaleshwaram project. 'KCR spent ₹1.2 lakh crore on Kaleshwaram, which ultimately failed. Pranahita-Chevella could have been completed with just ₹38,000 crore,' he said, accusing BRS of redesigning projects merely to loot the treasury. Tourism and Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao and Nagarkurnool MP Mallu Ravi were among present.

Congress kept India united, Gandhi family kept party intact: DK Shivakumar

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Saturday said India has remained united because of the Congress and the Gandhi family has kept the party together as he urged party workers to contribute as a team to ensure the exit of the BJP in 2029. He also urged the lawyers community to help protect the right to vote of every Indian by creating legal banks in every constituency, as suggested by Rahul Gandhi. "Congress' history is country's history, Congress' strength is country's strength. The Gandhi family has kept the Congress family united and the Congress has kept the country united. Otherwise our country would have been broken into various pieces," he said. Shivakumar was addressing the valedictory function of the day-long national legal conclave on 'Constitutional Challenges: Perspectives and Pathways'. The eight-time legislator from Karnataka recalled the days when he was lodged in Tihar jail and lauded the role played by lawyers in helping him come out of it. He also thanked Sonia Gandhi for visiting him in Tihar jail when he was there and make him the Karnataka Congress chief after that helped the party break the "double engine government" in the state. "This is not just a political agenda, we all have to join together. Joining together is the beginning and all of you teaming together is progress. You all have to work together and again in 2029 you have to bring back the country back to shape," Shivakumar said as he exhorted workers to come together to fight the BJP. "With lot of commitment, the Congress party has saved this country, the day is not far. You all have to have a proper agenda and in 2029 you should see when Rahul Gandhi becomes the prime minister of the country. This is what your commitment should be," he said. He also lauded the "sacrifice" made by Sonia Gandhi to make Manmohan Singh the prime minister. The Karnataka deputy chief minister said the message by Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge at the conclave was clear that when our Constitution and our right to vote are in big danger, all lawyers who believe in democracy and Constitution have to create a legal bank in every assembly and district, to protect and save the right of every voter. "This is what he is starting his voice on August 5 in Freedom Park in Karnataka," he said about the details of Rahul Gandhi's programme of providing information on alleged anomalies in the voter lists in one constituency in Karnataka that has been investigated by the Congress workers there.

'Only We Are Saying It': MS Aiyar Says No Evidence On Pakistan's Role In Pahalgam, BJP Furious

Last Updated: Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar claimed that India had not been able to present any evidence that Pakistan was responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar stoked a major row on Saturday by questioning whether Pakistan was indeed behind the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, saying that there was no evidence of it, and none of the 33 countries that were visited by all-party delegations from India had blamed Pakistan for the incident. Speaking to IANS, Aiyar said, 'None of the 33 countries that (Congress leader Shashi) Tharoor and his team visited blamed Pakistan for the Pahalgam terror attack. Neither the UN nor the United States have held Pakistan responsible. We are the only ones saying that Pakistan is behind it, but no one is willing to believe us." The BJP reacted furiously over Aiyar for aligning with Pakistani propaganda. 'Maybe the grand old Congress party does not know that the monitoring panel of the United Nations Security Council has raised concerns over the role of the TRF, which is an offshoot of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), in the attack," said BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla. 'Maybe Congress does not know that the birth of terrorism took place in Pakistan, be it LeT or JeM, whose camps we destroyed in Operation Sindoor. It's unfortunate that Congress is defending Pakistan and demeaning our armed forces," he added. 'Congress party and its leaders continue to be top cheerleaders for Pakistan and find their true calling in peddling anti-India and pro-Pakistan propaganda. Indeed shameful," said another BJP spokesperson, CR Kesavan. 'India Could Not Defeat Pakistan' These controversial remarks came after Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal made headlines by claiming that India could not defeat Pakistan in Operation Sindoor, which is why the government had to stop the water. During a discussion with Gaurav Gogoi, Sanjay Raut and Sagarika Ghose, Sibal said the defence systems of India and Pakistan were at par and that India was not in a situation to continue the war. The BJP slammed Sibal's remarks, calling them 'Pakistani B team INDI alliance!" Notably, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had recently told both Houses of the Parliament that India struck nine terror sites in Pakistan as part of Operation Sindoor and neutralised more than 100 terrorists. He affirmed that Pakistan's DGMO called his Indian counterpart, after which the Centre decided to pause the conflict. Shah also informed the House that all three terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam attack were eliminated in a joint operation by the Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police near Srinagar on Monday under Operation Mahadev.
