What's the truth behind Bronny James' retirement plan? The viral social media is not what it seems

LeBron James kept the media and his fans speculating about his retirement for months after the Los Angeles Lakers' exit from the playoffs. But what has come as a complete shock is a social media post by NBA Central which claims it's his son and teammate Bronny James who has announced his retirement.
While the trolls celebrated the announcement, it doesn't seem as it looks. Bronny is still very much a part of the NBA, but there is a slight twist to it.
Has Bronny James really retired from the NBA?
A post shared on NBA Central's X account on Tuesday read: 'BREAKING: Bronny James announces his retirement from the NBA.' This was followed by several harsh comments as many celebrated his retirement.
But the aspiring footballer will probably be more encouraged to prove his best as he now gears up to represent the Los Angeles Lakers in Summer League in order to be better prepared to play alongside his father once again.
The NBA Summer League mostly sees the participation of rookies and other young players to polish them further before they get a chance to play alongside the legends and veterans of the NBA in the regular season.
Bronny James' NBA stint
Bronny James, 20, fulfilled his father LeBron James' dream of playing together on the same team when he was picked by the Los Angeles Lakers as the No. 55 overall pick in the second round of the Draft. He had played just one year of college basketball for the USC Trojans.

The development sparked an ongoing nepotism debate, as NBA fans compared his rookie beginnings to his father's towering list of achievements.
Bronny played 27 games in his debut season with the Los Angeles Lakers. He has an average of 2.3 points, 0.8 assists, and 0.7 rebounds per game in the NBA regular season.
Bronny James on LeBron James' retirement plans
Last month, Bronny expressed his desire to watch LeBron continue to play basketball. On being asked if his father should play more matches, Bronny told Fox Sports, 'Yeah for sure. However long he can come back for, it's always a pleasure being around him. He's locked in. The stuff he does for his body and the preparation and stuff like that, I want to take full advantage of it.'

Wimbledon 2025, Day 7: Taylor Fritz advances to quarterfinals; Aryna Sabalenka, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova also through

Taylor Fritz (AP Photo) Taylor Fritz moved into the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the third time in four years on Sunday, though not in the fashion he would have preferred. The No. 5 seed advanced after Australian Jordan Thompson was forced to retire due to injury, trailing 6-1, 3-0 after just 41 minutes of play. Thompson, who entered the match carrying back and leg issues, took a medical timeout early in the second set but was unable to continue after a brief attempt to play through the pain. 'Just played a lot of tennis on a body that shouldn't have been, and it just took its toll,' the unseeded Australian said after the match. Fritz, who had battled through multiple five-setters earlier in the tournament, acknowledged the unfortunate circumstances: 'It's obviously not the way I want to go through. It's just sad... Respect to him for coming out. His body's not right.' The American will next face No. 17 seed Karen Khachanov, who defeated Poland's Kamil Majchrzak 6-4, 6-2, 6-3. While Khachanov holds a 2-0 record over Fritz, their last meeting was back in 2020. 'We practice all the time, so we're pretty familiar with each other's games,' Fritz said. 'But I think I've improved a ton since then.' The 37-year-old drew cheers from the crowd when her age was mentioned, joking, 'It's not that often you get such a compliment for being old.' Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova also returned to the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time in nine years, beating Britain's Sonay Kartal 7-6(3), 6-4 despite a controversial missed call after a system outage. 'My sister has cancer': Akash Deep's heartbreaking revelation; dedicates historic Edgbaston win to her

Akash Deep (BCCI Photo) NEW DELHI: Akash Deep delivered a stunning performance with the ball to play a pivotal role in India's landmark victory over England in the second Test at Edgbaston. Showcasing his skill with seam movement, the pacer claimed 10 wickets in the match, helping India register their first-ever Test win at the iconic Birmingham venue. He picked up four wickets in the first innings and followed it up with a six-wicket haul in the second, finishing with match figures of 10/187. This effort not only set a new benchmark for the best bowling figures by an Indian in a Test in England — surpassing Chetan Sharma 's 10/188 from 1986 — but also made Akash only the second Indian pacer to achieve a 10-wicket match haul in the country. The fast bowler revealed that his elder sister has been battling cancer for the past two months and dedicated his match-winning performance to her. "I have not told this to anyone. My elder sister has been suffering from cancer for the last two months. She is now stable, and she is fine. I think she will be the happiest (seeing my performance). I want to dedicate this match to her. I wanted to see a smile on her face," Akash said after the game. He added an emotional message for her: "This is for you. Whenever I held the ball in my hand, your face was in my mind. I want to see happiness in your face. We are all with you." WATCH: India's 336-run triumph also ended a long wait for a win at Edgbaston, where they had previously played eight Tests — losing seven and drawing one. This dominant victory also became India's biggest Test win away from home in terms of runs, overtaking their 318-run win against the West Indies in 2019.
