What's the truth behind Bronny James' retirement plan? The viral social media is not what it seems
Image credit: Bronny James/Instagram LeBron James kept the media and his fans speculating about his retirement for months after the Los Angeles Lakers' exit from the playoffs. But what has come as a complete shock is a social media post by NBA Central which claims it's his son and teammate Bronny James who has announced his retirement. While the trolls celebrated the announcement, it doesn't seem as it looks. Bronny is still very much a part of the NBA, but there is a slight twist to it. Has Bronny James really retired from the NBA? A post shared on NBA Central's X account on Tuesday read: 'BREAKING: Bronny James announces his retirement from the NBA.' This was followed by several harsh comments as many celebrated his retirement. But the aspiring footballer will probably be more encouraged to prove his best as he now gears up to represent the Los Angeles Lakers in Summer League in order to be better prepared to play alongside his father once again. The NBA Summer League mostly sees the participation of rookies and other young players to polish them further before they get a chance to play alongside the legends and veterans of the NBA in the regular season. Bronny James' NBA stint Bronny James, 20, fulfilled his father LeBron James' dream of playing together on the same team when he was picked by the Los Angeles Lakers as the No. 55 overall pick in the second round of the Draft. Bronny James on LeBron James' retirement plans Last month, Bronny expressed his desire to watch LeBron continue to play basketball. On being asked if his father should play more matches, Bronny told Fox Sports, 'Yeah for sure. However long he can come back for, it's always a pleasure being around him. He's locked in. The stuff he does for his body and the preparation and stuff like that, I want to take full advantage of it.' 5 wild things LeBron said on Pat McAfee's show, including ripping Brian Windhorst
LeBron James didn't hold back on Wednesday with a long, very honest appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. And yes, it's worth noting that he's appearing on ESPN, the same network that employs Stephen A. Smith, whom the Los Angeles Lakers superstar feuded with recently. Guess who he spoke about on the air? Yep, there was talk about Smith on the network where the very handsomely paid Smith works. What else did James talk about? Here's a summary of a whole bunch of stuff he covered in the extensive appearance on Wednesday afternoon: Sheesh. Seems unnecessary! WARNING: NSFW LANGUAGE AHEAD! "I've seen Brian Windhorst on one of these shows not too long ago... This guy says he's like my f*cking best friend. These guys are just weird." NBA Centel, explained: Why fans and teams are mourning the parody Twitter account
Welcome to FTW Explains, a guide to catching up on and better understanding stuff going on in the world. Have you seen some stuff about something called NBA Centel and how fans and teams are now mourning it? And you're very confused about that whole thing? Don't worry. We're here to help. Yes, that's right. NBA Centel appears to be no more. No, I'm not talking about NBA Central (@TheDunkCentral) which is a legit account that shares hoops news, stats and highlights. We're talking NBA Centel, a parody account followed by hundreds of thousands of X (formerly Twitter) users. Let's help you understand what's up. It's a parody account much like Ballsack Sports that has fooled quite a few folks with fake quotes that are sometimes repeated on social media or even on television. It literally happened the other day to Colin Cowherd: 'I saw a story where they won't let Luka jerseys in the building in Dallas.' Colin Cowherd got CENTEL'D. 😭😭😭 — NBACentel (@TheNBACentel) February 24, 2025 Draymond Green quote tweeted a Centel quote that was NOT from Kevin Garnett back in 2023. Draymond Green falls for a fake quote 😭 — Hoops (@HoopMixOnly) July 19, 2023 No clue. All we know is all its tweets are erased. But they're still posting on Instagram View this post on Instagram A post shared by NBACentel (@thenbacentel) They were sad ... mostly. #FreeCentel — Orlando Magic (@OrlandoMagic) February 27, 2025 #RIPCentel — Sacramento Kings (@SacramentoKings) February 27, 2025 this is for u, NBACentel — LA Clippers (@LAClippers) February 27, 2025 NO MORE GETTING CENTEL'D — Atlanta Hawks (@ATLHawks) February 27, 2025 Even Stephen A.
