72 from Haryana's Super-100 programme clear JEE advanced
Naveen Mishra, who heads the Kurukshetra centre, said the achievement reflects the transformative potential of the initiative. Sharing a particularly moving moment, he recalled how the father of Muskan, a student from Dinod village in Bhiwani, visited him to express gratitude. 'He told me they own just one acre of land and have five daughters. Affording even a basic private school was a struggle,' Mishra said. Muskan, who secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 1,383 in the EWS (economically weaker section) category, is now hopeful of a seat in an IIT.
Another student, Sufta Parveen from Faridabad, earned AIR 1,630 in the EWS category. Speaking over the phone, she credited the programme's rigorous schedule and dedicated teachers for her success. 'We attended classes from 9 am to 7 pm, followed by self-study till midnight. I joined the programme after hearing about it from a friend and cracking the entrance test,' she said. 'My father works in a private factory and my mother is a homemaker. This journey would not have been possible without the support of Naveen sir and his team,' she added.
Ravinder Jangra from Khatkar in Jind emerged as the programme's top performer, securing AIR 212 in the OBC category and overall AIR 1,267. Coming from a farming family with limited resources, he said the programme changed the course of his life. 'I had taken admission in Class 11 with Arts subjects. After qualifying for Super-100, I shifted to the non-medical stream. Without this opportunity, I would've had to continue with Arts and let go of my dream.'
The Super-100 programme was launched in 2018 by Naveen Mishra, a native of Madhubani in Bihar and an IIT Delhi alumnus. Despite twice reaching the UPSC interview stage, Mishra chose to dedicate himself to educational upliftment. Since its inception, six batches of students from the programme have appeared for JEE Advanced, with many achieving remarkable success against difficult odds.

Two tigers kill six cattle in Nilgiris
Representative image UDHAGAMANDALAM: Two tigers have killed six cattle in the Gudalur forest division in the Nilgiris in the last 12 days. According to forest officials, one tiger was responsible for the deaths of five cattle in Padanthurai area while another tiger killed a cow in the foothills of the Needle Rock, approximately 3 km away from Padanthurai. Five cattle were killed in an unmaintained tea garden in Devarshola in Padanthurai area. "The five incidents occurred on different days but consecutively over the past ten days," said district forest officer for the Gudalur division Venkatesh Prabhu. "The most recent incident took place two days ago in the foothills of the Needle Rock. In this case, a cow was also killed by a tiger," he added. The forest department has mapped the locations of the first five incidents in Padanthurai and has installed a camera trap. A tiger was captured on camera during this monitoring. "In the latest incident in the Needle Rock area, the size of the tiger's pugmarks indicates that it is a sub-adult. This area, which is very close to the reserve forest, is known for frequent tiger movements," Prabhu said. Forest officers, who are concerned about the increasing number of cattle deaths, have sent a letter to the chief wildlife warden of Tamil Nadu and the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), requesting permission to form a technical committee for further action. "We have written to the chief wildlife warden and NTCA to establish a technical guidance committee to monitor tiger movements in the affected areas on a day-to-day basis. A committee will be formed soon. Decisions will be made based on the committee's recommendations," added the district forest officer. The technical guidance committee will consist of a nominee from the NTCA, a nominee from the chief wildlife warden and a representative of an NGO. Northeast Frontier Railway inks pacts for sustainable projects in Guwahati
Guwahati, Aug 2 (PTI) Northeast Frontier Railway on Saturday said it has signed separate agreements with different organisations, including IIT-Guwahati and Assam Pollution Control Board, for projects related to sustainability. A tripartite agreement was signed among NFR, Assam Pollution Control Board (APCB) and Kusum Udyog to develop Guwahati Railway Station into a 100 per cent plastic recycling hub. A dedicated six-member task force led by the Station Superintendent, Guwahati, has been constituted to steer the initiative, a statement said. 'Efforts include improving garbage storage infrastructure, operationalising a compost-making plant and organising frequent passenger awareness drives," it said. The second agreement signed with IIT-Guwahati focuses on the introduction of biodegradable and compostable bags to replace the existing packets used for bedroll distribution in AC coaches. 'The pilot will begin with the Brahmaputra Mail operating between Kamakhya and New Delhi with plans to scale the same initiative across all Guwahati and Kamakhya-based trains, and eventually to the entire NFR network," the statement said. This initiative merges collaborative research with field-level implementation, targeting a shift towards eco-friendly and passenger-conscious alternatives, it added. 'By integrating environmental sustainability into its operational framework, NFR continues to lead in creating a cleaner and greener railway ecosystem for the zone," NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said. IIT-Patna welcomes record 783 new students at 3-day induction
1 2 Patna: Indian Institute of Technology-Patna (IIT-P) on Friday welcomed a record number of 783 newly admitted students, including 161 girls, on its campus on the first day of their three-day orientation programme. The aim of the three-day event is to familiarise them with the academic environment, co-curricular activities, campus resources and institutional support systems available at IIT-Patna. Admitted through JEE (Advanced) 2025, the students, along with family members, turned up on the campus from different states, with pride and enthusiasm writ large on their faces. Addressing the newcomers, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL)'s director (R&D) Alok Sharma, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that students joining this institution deserve all encouragements from the society as they have achieved this success through a cut-throat competition. He encouraged them to maintain a positive attitude and take proactive steps towards success in life. Welcoming the students and their parents on the campus, IIT-P director T N Singh said that there is no shortcut to success and hence students must pursue their studies with patience and positive attitude. "You must keep learning continuously and prepare yourself well to face the challenges in life boldly. Commas and semicolons are always there in life, but full stops are never acceptable," he said. Dean of administration-cum-registrar A K Thakur highlighted IIT-Patna's legacy as a modern centre of learning equipped with cutting-edge facilities. "We uphold ancient traditions of scholarship while embracing modern technology for the holistic development of our students," he said. Sushant Kumar, associate dean for undergraduate studies, briefed students about the academic roadmap ahead and elaborated on the wide array of learning opportunities offered by the institute.
