Prince Harry thanks NYC tattoo artist for ‘handling of press' in personal letter: ‘Skillful dodging'

New York Post21-07-2025
Prince Harry has sent an NYC tattoo artist a personal letter in which he thanked him for his 'handling of the press' following his visit to the ink parlor last year.
The Duke of Sussex, 40, was spotted visiting East Side Ink — a high-end custom shop frequented by A-listers — in September 2024.
It later emerged that while Harry didn't get any permanent artwork on his body during the brief visit, he did recruit Jelly Roll to headline the closing ceremony of the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025.

Now, more than 9 months since the 'Spare' author's visit, tattoo artist and parlor owner Joshua Lord has shared the sweet letter he had received from Harry's office in a post on Instagram.
'Dear Josh, thank you so much for your generosity in offering us your space at East Side Ink for filming,' the duke's letter began.
'It was incredibly kind, and I really enjoyed meeting you and learning more about the history of your shop.'
In the letter, which was signed by the Invictus Games founder and dated October 17, 2024, Harry also praised Lord for his 'skillful dodging' of questions from the media.

'I also appreciated your artful handling of press questions regarding my visit, it means a lot and I was rather impressed by your skillful dodging! Well done.'
'They'll be in for a shock when they see the final cut,' Harry continued. 'Grateful for your partnership and support in service of the Invictus community.'
The letter also included a personal invitation from Harry to the 2025 Invictus Games, which were held in February.
'If you'd like to come to Vancouver in February, we'd love to have you! All the best, Harry,' it concluded.

In addition to a snap of the letter, Lord shared never-before-seen snaps of the duke during his visit to the tattoo parlor.
Several images showed the exiled royal with rapper Jelly Roll, which Lord captioned, 'Lord, Prince and Jelly.'
'ALSO my Royal 'thank you' letter naming me as the Skilful Dodger, which is a pretty good nickname, really,' he added, aptly soundtracking the post to 'Royals' by singer Lorde.
The tattooist did, however, make a slight blunder as he tagged the now-defunct @sussexroyal Instagram account, which Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, were forced to give up after quitting royal life in 2020.

Management for East Side Ink — where stars like Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson have gotten ink — was tight-lipped about the duke's visit at the time.
'I can't confirm or deny anything,' shop owner Josh Lord told The Post. 'We treat all our customers as if they were royal, because to us they are. We always honor their privacy.'

Carrie Underwood is leaving blonde hair in the past for new look: See photo

Carrie Underwood is ditching her famous blonde locks to debut a new look. The "American Idol" judge posted an Instagram photo Aug. 4, revealing that she said goodbye to the bleached tresses that have been synonymous with her life and career since she won Season 4 of the reality singing competition show in 2005. "Well, the last time I saw my natural hair color, I was probably about 12 years old, but I thought it might be time to give it a second chance. Thanks, @hairbykatelin_ at @parlour3beauty for helping me get back to my roots!" Underwood captioned the snap, adding the hashtags "#NewOldMe" and "#Bronde." 'American Idol' winner Jamal Roberts speaks out about judge Carrie Underwood One of the most famous contestants to ever compete on the show, Underwood returned to "Idol" – replacing pop star Katy Perry on the judging panel – alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan as a judge on Season 23, which premiered in March. The news, first announced on "Good Morning America," was an exciting throwback for "Idol" fans. Underwood's 2005 win happened when the show still had its original judges: Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell. With eight wins, Underwood is the past contestant with the most Grammy trophies to her name. Suspect charged in killings of 'American Idol' music supervisor, husband But there were bumpy moments during Underwood's first season as an "Idol" judge when the Season 23 winner Jamal Roberts threw a bit of shade at the country star after following in her footsteps. In July, when journalist Nate Vinson asked him about the "very strong narrative online" around Underwood's first season as a judge and how "people (who) watch the show that felt like she really wasn't supportive of you like other judges or other people," Roberts said that "Carrie is a country singer and she likes country music." During Season 23, which ended in May, the genre-bending Mississippi gym teacher won over a pair of country singers, John Foster and Breanna Nix. The conversation surrounding Roberts and Underwood reached a fever pitch online all season long. "I mean, I don't think she likes every genre for real. She had her picks, and she had her (choice) of who she really liked, and she stuck with it," Roberts added in the red carpet clip from a BET 45th anniversary dinner. "We applaud her for sticking to her roots and sticking to who she liked, but I feel like the better person won." Contributing: KiMi Robinson

MTV Finally Gives Country Music Its Moment

For more than 40 years, the MTV Video Music Awards have ranked one of the biggest and most nights in music. The ceremony has introduced, dropped, and revived dozens of categories throughout the decades, but somehow, in all that time, country music never had a category of its own. Finally, after decades, that's changed. This year, the VMAs debut Best Country Video, a long‑overdue recognition of one of America's most popular genres. It arrives alongside another new honor, Best Pop Artist, in an expanded list of possible winners. Six Nominees Compete for First Best Country Video The inaugural Best Country Video race includes Chris Stapleton's 'Think I'm In Love With You,' Cody Johnson and Carrie Underwood's 'I'm Gonna Love You,' Jelly Roll's 'Liar,' Lainey Wilson's '4x4xU,' Megan Moroney's 'Am I Okay?,' and Morgan Wallen's 'Smile.' Country Nominees Appear in Other Races Morgan Wallen is one of just seven artists competing for Artist of the Year, alongside Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, and Taylor Swift. He's also in the running for Best Album with I'm The Problem. Jelly Roll appears in the Best Hip‑Hop category as a featured artist on Eminem's 'Somebody Save Me,' which is also up for Video for Good. Country Stars Outside the Country Category Several country acts earn nominations this year without competing in Best Country Video. Ella Langley is up for Best New Artist. Bailey Zimmerman and Luke Combs share a nod in Best Collaboration for 'Backup Plan (Stagecoach Official Music Video),' while Blake Shelton is featured on Post Malone's 'Pour Me A Drink' in that same field, where they'll compete against heavy hitters like Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga, the most nominated artist this year. Decades of VMAs Without a Country Category The VMAs have long been known to feature a revolving door of categories. Some were staples for years before being retired, like Best Stage Performance in a Video, Viewer's Choice, Best Concept Video, and Best Video Game Soundtrack. Others — such as Best Latin and Best K‑Pop — were introduced more recently as MTV responded to changing tastes and global music trends. Somehow, until now, country music never received the same treatment. That's despite the genre's massive sales and streaming numbers, its dominance on the charts, and its own thriving music video tradition. Now, the style, which has been gaining ground recently – even Beyoncé put out a country album – is earning its moment.

Selena Gomez Shares Never-Before-Seen Summer Photos With Benny Blanco and Surprise 'Wizards' Co-Star

THE RUNDOWN Selena Gomez has been spending her summer largely out of the public eye and away from the paparazzi lens—but it's been a good season for the engaged singer. Gomez shared a glimpse of her downtime, posting a carousel of personal photos on Instagram. 'Good times, good food, good people,' the star wrote. She led the post with a shot of Blanco, followed by selfies and a little Wizards of Waverly Place content. In one photo, she's seen watching an old episode of the Disney Channel show that made her famous. In another, she appears enjoying a meal with her Wizards co-star Jennifer Stone. Gomez has been producing and making guest appearances in the series' reboot, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, which recently finished filming its second season. The Wizards Beyond Waverly Place's Instagram commented '👀' on her post, so make what you will of that. In June, Gomez wrapped filming on the fifth season of Only Murders in the Building, which will premiere on September 9. She is also in the process of launching Rare Beauty's first perfume. In an interview with Women's Wear Daily published last week, Gomez discussed her priorities with Rare Beauty amid rumors the brand could be exploring a sale or IPO. 'I think it's important for me not to focus on the logistics, if that makes sense, for me and my personal well-being,' she said. 'I put my heart into it. I work really hard, and I love our community, especially my fans. They have gotten me through all of the ups and all of the downs of life, and they are with me.' She added, 'I'm so grateful that I'm in this place in my life where, you know, things could have looked differently, and the future for Rare for me is just the fact that we want to continue to create products. There's still so much more room, there's still so much more places we could go. But specifically with the fragrance, I just thought it was time.' While she hasn't specified exactly what she's been up to outside of those projects, wedding planning could be among her summer activities. Last month, Blanco told Jake Shane that they hadn't started yet. 'That's why we both need to chill,' he said. 'We've both been working so much. We got engaged, and then we were filming music videos for our album [I Said I Love You First]... Then it's holidays, then right after the holidays, we had to start all the promo for our stuff, do that. Then she left to film her show Only Murders [in the Building] and then I met her, then we hung out for a week, and then right after that, it's promo. And then I'm writing another book, so then I had to write a book, and then she came back for one day here. And then it was my birthday, and you know.... We're both working on so many things that we hadn't even had time to get into it, but we're so excited. I think this summer we're going to sit down and be like, 'Okay, what are we doing, hun?''
