LDA resolves nine cases at janata adalat
Lucknow: A retired police officer, B C Srivastava, once again appeared at the Lucknow Development Authority's janata adalat, as part of Pradhikaran Diwas on Thursday, seeking resolution to a land dispute pending for 40 years.
Srivastava said his land in Ujariyaon was acquired in 1985, with promise of alternative land which he never received. A similar case surfaced of retired police inspector

, who was allotted a flat in Aliganj in an LDA scheme in 1984, but its registry is pending. Officials were directed to investigate resolve the matters fast. Of 32 applications received, nine were resolved on the spot.

A resident reported encroachment on pond land in Ward Kesari Kheda, prompting the DC to order immediate eviction and an FIR against the land mafia. In Faridi Nagar (LDA Zone 5), illegal construction by three individuals was reported, with the complainant alleging threats. Officials were instructed to seal the building and initiate legal action. A request was also made for CCTV installation on the service road near Dubagga under the Safe City project. The Commissioner ordered swift action. Nagrik Suvidha Diwas is held on the last Tuesday of every month with the aim to streamline redressal in multi-agency cases.

Removal of meat shops near Lucknow airport ordered
Civic officials have been asked to remove meat shops near the airport here. Also, towers installed on high-rise buildings located on the approach road of the runway will be removed for smoother flight operations. (For representation) These were the instructions of divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob to Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) at a meeting held to discuss issues related to airport and flight operations. Airport, Air Traffic Controller (ATC), Lucknow Development Authority, forest department and municipal corporation officials were also present. An airport spokesperson said the administration was requested to help in the removal of four to five meat shops that were located near the airport. Their removal was mandatory from a security point of view, he said. Responding to the request, the divisional commissioner directed LMC officials to take cognisance of the said meat shops and ensure their immediate removal. Also, LMC officials were asked to get stray dogs in the area sterilised. In the meeting, airport officials said the city police commissioner had been requested ban laser lights and kite-flying within 10 km of the airport. Regarding this, Jacob asked officials to coordinate with the police department so that prompt action could be ensured in the matter. LDA officials pulled up Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) officials were on Monday pulled up for neglecting the removal of encroachments on government land in Sector-A of the Basant Kunj Scheme. On Monday, Jacob issued fresh instructions to LDA to clear the encroachments, and warned that strict action would be taken against both encroachers and officials if action was not taken immediately. The divisional commissioner had visited the Basant Kunj project site on June 13, when she had ordered the immediate clearance of land occupied by mafias.

Unease in Delhi Police: ‘If we have to manage law & order at these places, we must have a say'
The decision to withdraw powers from the Licensing unit of Delhi Police for obtaining permission or No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) for hotels, eateries, discotheques, amusement parks, swimming pools, and auditoriums has created unease within the police brass. The Indian Express spoke to police officers, serving and retired, who said that since they are the first line of defence in tragedies, divorcing them from the process may not be the 'best move'. Former Delhi Police commissioner, S N Srivastava, said, 'While it is the government's prerogative to allocate responsibility to its departments, I do not subscribe to the view that the issue of licence for such places of gathering does not have law and order implications. If police have to manage law and order arising out of gathering at these places, it requires a say in such matters.' 'At present, most processes of issue of licence have been made online. Multiple agencies can offer their input on the issue of license in a time-bound manner. There is always scope for improvement. Transferring work from one to another is not always a solution,' Srivastava added. A senior police officer currently in the force said, 'There are several incidents that occur at such places – people get stuck in lifts or drown in swimming pools, incidents are even reported at amusement parks – which are investigated by us. Then why the power to assign these licences have been taken away from us?' Another officer said that even if the process had to be streamlined, inputs and suggestions on how to ensure compliance and safety should have been incorporated into the new process. 'If there is an issue regarding law and order at an amusement park, it very much falls in the domain of the Delhi Police, but if the police officers are kept out, what is the point?' another senior officer said.
