Isha Koppikar recently opened up about a shocking behind-the-scenes moment from her early acting days. While filming the 1998 movie Chandralekha opposite South superstar Nagarjuna, Isha revealed that she was slapped multiple times at her own request in order to bring authenticity to a scene.
Speaking to Hindi Rush, Isha said, 'I got slapped by Nagarjuna. I was a fully committed actor that I want to perform in a real, method way. So when he was slapping me, I couldn't feel it. This was my second film, so I told him 'Nag, you really slap me.' He said, 'Are you sure? No, I can't.' I said, 'I want that feeling. I am not feeling it right now.' So he slapped me, but softly."
Isha explained that she was unable to capture the anger required for the scene, and the camera wasn't catching her expression properly. As a result, the director kept asking for more takes. In the process, she ended up being slapped 14–15 times. 'In an attempt to look angry, I got slapped 14 times," she said.
By the end of the shoot, Isha had visible marks on her face. She added, 'I literally had marks on my face. Bechara mujhe leke baitha, bola sorry (Poor guy, he apologised to me). I said, 'I asked for it, why are you saying sorry?'"
While the incident may sound extreme, Isha's candid admission reveals the intense dedication many actors commit to for a role—especially early in their careers. The scene required a raw emotional response, and Isha felt method acting was the only way to achieve it.
Isha Koppikar, known for her performances in films like Krishna Cottage, Pinjar, Kya Kool Hain Hum, and Don, was most recently seen in the Tamil sci-fi film Ayalaan (2024). Despite having worked across multiple industries, this moment from her second film remains one of the most unforgettable in her journey.
