Curtain Falls On Jobs: Dallas Children's Theater Plans Phased Layoffs, Scaled-Back Season

In a recent statement, Dallas Children's Theater said it plans to cut its workforce by nearly half through phased layoffs.
According to the theater, the first round of layoffs took place on June 2, with two additional rounds to occur in August and October. As part of the cost-cutting measures, the Dallas establishment is reducing shows and pausing some of its classes.
'After careful consideration, DCT will be reducing our 2025-2026 season to three mainstage shows to address the significant financial challenges of the current environment and to position ourselves for a stronger, more resilient future,' Dallas Children's Theater (DCT) said in a statement, per WFAA.
'Although our performances are well-attended and our community support is strong, ticket sales cover only a small portion of the true cost of producing theater. At the same time, our operating costs have steadily increased while funding levels have remained flat. This financial pressure requires immediate action to keep DCT viable — not just for this season, but for the years ahead.'
The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley and Jungalbook are two shows the theater plans to drop from its 2025-2026 season. The theater company will contact ticketholders for those shows about the next steps. DCT's mainstage shows for the season will include The Hungry Caterpillar, Moon Mouse, and The Pigeon Gets a Big Time Holiday Extravaganza.
'We remain deeply committed to artistic excellence and to the 90,000 young people and families we serve annually. Though we will have fewer performances, we will continue to provide meaningful theatrical experiences that inspire children, nurture their imagination, and encourage connection with the world around them,' DCT said in a post on its website.
Three job postings, Director of Development, Box Office Representative, and General Maintenance Technician, remain live on the theater's website. It is unclear if the recent announcement will impact those openings.

Rapper and 5-Year-Old Daughter Dead After Harrowing, On-Camera Attack

Texas rapper G$ Lil Ronnie and his 5-year-old daughter died tragically in a shooting on Monday, and part of the horrific attack was caught on video. As TMZ reported, the 30-year-old rapper–whose legal name is Ronnie Smith–and his daughter, R'Mani, were sitting inside his car at a car wash in the Fort Worth suburb of Forest Hills at 10:45 a.m. on March 3 when two men exited a white four-door Kia and approached the vehicle, opening fire. 🎬 🎬 Police said they are currently reviewing the surveillance footage that began circulating online shortly after the attack, which shows the gunmen chasing Ronnie around the car wash before the rapper was seen on the ground next to a red car. While officers arrived minutes later, both Ronnie and R'Mani were pronounced dead at the scene. Law enforcement officials believe the attack was targeted and have issued a murder warrant for one of the shooters that they identified. "Currently, we are not ready to release the suspect's name as the investigation continues," Forest Hill said in a news release shared with local ABC affiliate WFAA. Ronnie's aunt, Stella Houston, told WFAA that her nephew had no known enemies. "He was a good kid. He was," Houston said. "He didn't bother nobody." Texas Rapper G$ Lil Ronnie And 5-Year-Old Daughter Killed In Car Wash Shooting

An unfortunate tragedy struck in North Texas this week. Local rapper G$ Lil Ronnie and his five-year-old daughter were killed during a shooting at a car wash. The police reported that two suspects opened fire at a car wash in Forest Hill, a suburb located 30 miles west of Dallas, before 11 a.m. local time on Monday (Mar. 3). Authorities rushed to the scene and attempted to save both victims' lives; they were unsuccessful as both Ronnie, real name Ronnie Smith, and his daughter were pronounced dead at the scene. Upon conducting a preliminary investigation, the Forest Hill Police Department determined that the suspects left the scene of the crime in a white four-door Kia after encroaching upon Ronnie's car and firing shots. A witness claimed that they heard 20 to 30 gunshots, per a report from KTVT. The suspects' names have yet to be shared, but there is a capital murder warrant out for their arrest. 'He was a good kid. He was,' Stella Houston, G$ Lil Ronnie's aunt, told WFAA. 'He didn't bother [nobody].' Weeks ago, the 30-year-old rapper shared an Instagram post showing him attending a Valentine's Day celebration at his daughter's school. They invited her classmate to be their Valentine since her parents could not be there. 'My BabyGirl Couldn't Stand The Fact Her Friend Was Sad,' he wrote in the caption. 'This Morning Her Daddy Couldn't Make it to Donuts With Daddy This Morning So Yu Know We Let Her kno it's Ok 2 Join us & She Can Snap it Up & That Changed her Whole Mood *heart emojis* My Lil Valentines Literally.' Ronnie hadn't released any new music so far in 2025, but had an active 2024 with a slew of singles. VIBE sends its sincerest condolences to G$ Lil Ronnie's family, friends, loved ones, fans, and all who were impacted by this tragedy.
