BBC confirms Call the Midwife 'isn't going anywhere' despite reports of axing
The hit BBC series, which follows a group of midwives in London's impoverished East End during the 50s and 60s, began back in January 2012.
It has gone on to win several major gongs, including BAFTAs, TV Choice and National Television Awards.
Filming is already underway for series 15 of Call the Midwife, which the Daily Star reported was set to be the last.
An insider, speaking to the news outlet, said: 'After years of drama and countless births, Call The Midwife is coming to an end. The team have decided it's time to draw the show to a close and bow out.
'This is the last we'll see of these much-loved characters. Storylines will tie up a lot of loose ends.'
They continued: 'It's a bittersweet time for the cast and crew. They're all sad it's coming to an end, but they want to make sure the show gets the ending it deserves.'
Fans were quick to jump on social media to share how "upset" they were with reports Call the Midwife had been axed.
One person, posting on X (formerly Twitter), said: "I'm so upset I love call the midwife praying doctor who ain't next, im scared."
Another viewer added: "I can't believe they are taking Call The Midwife away from me this is a personal attack."
A third fan commented: "They cancelled call the midwife I'm going into a permanent mourning."

The 15th and final series of Call the Midwife will consist of eight hour-long episodes and will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from January 2026.
The new series will follow a two-part Christmas special in 2025, which will be set in Hong Kong and Poplar.
But despite these reports, the BBC has reassured fans Call the Midwife "isn't going anywhere".

The broadcaster said: "The BBC would like to reassure fans that Call The Midwife will remain at the heart of the BBC for years to come.
"As previously announced, there are two Christmas specials, a new series, a film and prequel series, before a sixteenth series in due course.
"Call the Midwife isn't going anywhere.'

As well as series 15, the BBC also previously announced a new Call the Midwife prequel series.
The prequel series, set in Poplar during World War II, will be made for the BBC in 2026.
In addition to the new TV series, Neal Street (production company), in development with BBC Film, is producing a Call the Midwife film.
The BBC said: "This will be set overseas in 1972 and feature iconic characters from the existing TV show."

Rebecca Loos has addressed the David Beckham "affair" scandal in scenes set to air on Celebrity SAS as she admitted: "He always made me feel very special." The former personal assistant (PA), 48, is starring on Channel 4's toughest reality show, Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins. It's a step back into public life after she shied away from it. It's been more than 20 years since Loos sold her story in 2004 to the now-defunct newspaper News of the World, claiming she had an affair with the footballer who is married to Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham; the Beckhams have always denied the claims. Now Loos' life looks totally different: she's moved to Norway, works as a yoga teacher and has children of her own. Her peace and quiet was disturbed when Beckham and his wife Victoria spoke about the impact the scandal had on their marriage in their Netflix docuseries in 2023. She says: "I do look back at who i was in my 20s and the only ever focus is on the f***ing beckham situation. It felt injust [unjust] that my life was pretty hell and his career and his life kept blossoming. That didn't feel quite right, still doesn't. I think I've taken most of the blame for what happened, rightly so it was part of my life. We were two. He was older of me and he was my boss." She adds: "You can't change the things that happened is my attitude. I roll my sleeves and get on with it. Everything I have experienced has brought me to where I am today. She says: "When the Beckham documentary [Netflix's Beckham] came out, I was taken completely by surprise. Him trying to portray an image of perfection that was nothing like reality… "The way our relationship was spoken about and the fact that no responsibility for his actions was reignited. It was like reliving 2004 all over again except this time we have the added dynamic of social media." What have the Beckhams said? In 2023, the Beckhams spoke about the scandal on their Netflix docuseries. They have always denied the affair. Speaking openly about it for the first time, they shared the "hurt" and the impact the headlines had on their marriage. Mrs Beckham said: "It was the hardest period because it felt like the world was against us. Here's the thing — we were against each other if I'm being completely honest. You know, up until Madrid sometimes it felt like us against everybody else but we were together, we were connected, we had each other. "But when we were in Spain, it didn't really feel like we had each other either. And that's sad. I can't even begin to tell you how hard it was and how it affected me. It was a nightmare. It was an absolute circus — and everyone loves it when the circus comes to town right? Unless you're in it." Her husband added: "Victoria is everything to me, to see her hurt was incredibly difficult.
