On X, analyst dares MNS chief to make him ‘fluent in Marathi'

Time of Indiaa day ago
Mumbai: Sushil Kedia, a share market-investment analyst, dared
MNS
Chief
Raj Thackeray
on social media X to act against him, saying he has been in Mumbai for 30 years but has not learnt Marathi.
"I don't know Marathi properly even after living for 30 years in Mumbai...
threatening me by 100 of your party workers is not going to make me a fluent Marathi speaker," Kedia said in a post on X.
This action drew criticism from the MNS, although no direct threats were made against him by the party. On its party's X handle, the MNS reposted a tweet from the party's General Secretary Manoj Chavan: "If you live in Maharashtra and act superior by not speaking Marathi, I'll give you a tight slap!"

If you insult Marathi in Maharashtra, you'll get a slap, otherwise, stay in your lane, Mehta or whoever. That's all for now."
Subsequently, Kedia posted another tweet tagging city police, CM Devendra Fadnavis and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, stating: "I'm receiving calls from several police stations... offering me protection, but under that pretext, they're asking for my location. This appears to be a dirty operation already underway, baying for my blood."

Tipra Motha ‘flip flop' over leaving BJP-led coalition, founder Pradyot Kishore contradicts senior party MLA

The Tipra Motha Saturday threatened to withdraw its support from the BJP-led ruling coalition, citing the Tripura government's alleged failure to implement the tripartite Tiprasa Accord and rein in illegal immigration from neighbouring Bangladesh. In a press briefing, Tipra Motha MLA and rebel-turned-politician Ranjit Debbarma said the tribal party had waited for 'over a year' to see some progress on the Tiprasa Accord. 'What is the point of being a part of the government? We have not left the demand of Greater Tipraland. The 125th Amendment Bill hasn't been passed in Parliament, and by-elections for vacant seats in the ADC (Autonomous District Council) and ADC village committee elections are yet to be held. We are ready to withdraw support and leave the government because nothing has been done about implementing the Accord. We shall discuss with the central government for one last time before deciding,' Ranjit Debbarma further said. The legislator added he had a discussion with Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma regarding the party's political options, and the latter concurred with him. Ranjit Debbarma further claimed that Pradyot Kishore's younger sister and BJP MP Kriti Devi Debbarma had also agreed to resign from Parliament over the non-implementation of the Tiprasa Accord. He, thereafter, announced that a delegation comprising 13 Tipra Motha legislators is scheduled to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on July 20. Last year, the Centre, Tripura government, and the Tipra Motha signed a tripartite Tiprasa Accord, agreeing to 'amicably resolve' all issues of the indigenous people of Tripura relating to history, land rights, political rights, economic development, identity, culture, language, etc. MLA Ranjit Debbarma also described 'unchecked illegal immigration' as a 'national threat', and added that the BJP-led government failed to act on combating illegal immigration despite the Tipra Motha dispatching a series of letters on the issue to district magistrates, superintendents of police, and the chief minister. However, just hours after Ranjit Debbarma said it was better to walk away from the ruling coalition instead of betraying the people, Pradyot Kishore said, 'I have spoken to the chief minister (Dr Manik Saha) and told him respectfully that there is genuine frustration amongst the tribals. He has said that at his level, he is doing his best to implement the (Tiprasa) accord. He has also assured to speak with the central government at the right platform to bring about an amicable solution to the accord. We are waiting for 18 months and are hopeful that the promise made by the Government of India will be honoured.' While clarifying that his party would not be leaving the government, Pradyot Kishore said, 'I didn't know what was said in the press conference. I shall talk to Ranjit Debbarma and ask what statement was given.' Pradyot Kishore, however, said that a lot of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh are entering Tripura amid the prevailing situation in the neighbouring country and added that tribals in the villages are 'frustrated' with the situation. Brushing aside MLA Ranjit Debbarma's comments, the Tipra Motha founder said those were 'statements made out of frustration'. While most BJP leaders declined to comment on the controversy, former chief minister and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb, who is known to be close to Pradyot Kishore, said Pradyot Kishore is the head of the Tipra Motha, and not Ranjit Debbarma. 'Ranjit Debbarma is not the supremo of Tipra Motha. No such decision of Tipra Motha has been informed to us. As far as I know, Tipra Motha supports the Union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi… Ranjit babu is not the right person… Whatever Pradyot Kishore says is considered the party policy of Tipra Motha,' Deb said. The former chief minister added that decisions on pending demands will be taken as per the 'system'. Reacting to the apparent 'flip flop' of the Tipra Motha on the issue of continuing its alliance with the BJP, Tripura Opposition leader and CPI(M) politburo member Jitendra Chaudhury said, 'Such incidents were bound to happen. The alliance between the BJP and the Tipra Motha was not formed based on proper principles. They agreed on things that they don't principally agree on. So, it's natural that they will have disillusionment. The high hopes created by Motha would also not be fulfilled, and it was bound to happen.' Tripura can have a maximum of 12 cabinet members, but till recently it had only 10 cabinet members. Of these, eight were from the BJP, one from the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura, and one from the Tipra Motha. BJP MLA Kishor Barman took oath as a cabinet minister on Thursday, taking the tally to 11. A section of political experts has, therefore, termed the threat to leave the ruling coalition as a bargaining chip for the Tipra Motha, which has been demanding three full-fledged cabinet berths for quite some time now. Notably, the Tipra Motha has the second-highest number of MLAs in the state after the BJP.

MK Stalin reacts to reunion of Thackeray cousins: ‘Upsurge against Hindi very….'

Shiv Sena (UBT) Chief Uddhav Thackeray, with his brother and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Chief Raj Thackeray, in Mumbai on Saturday.(ANI) Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin on Saturday welcomed the reunion of the Thackeray cousins in Mumbai and said the war against the imposition of Hindi being waged by the DMK and people of Tamil Nadu has transcended borders and is now raging like a whirlwind in Maharashtra. Stalin also criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party, stating that the party, which was acting "illegally and anarchically" by saying it would allocate funds only if Hindi was taught as a third language in Tamil Nadu schools, has retreated for the second time, fearing a popular uprising in Maharashtra where it is in power. "The upsurge and speeches of the victory celebration rally held in Mumbai today under the leadership of brother Uddhav Thackeray against the imposition of Hindi are very encouraging," Stalin said in a post on X. Stalin wrote that he hoped that the 'uprising' in Maharashtra would open the eyes of those who were 'parroting' the words that one would get a job if one studied Hindi. Thackeray cousins join hands Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and cousin and MNS head Raj Thackeray shared a political stage for the first time after two decades on the issue of Marathi identity and "imposition" of the Hindi language earlier today. The two leaders vowed to unite for the Marathi language and Marathi Manoos in the wake of the state government's move to introduce Hindi in primary schools. 'We have come together on the issue of Marathi and let me assure the Marathi people gathered here that we will stay together in future too,' Uddhav Thackeray said. Also Read | From 'jihadi gathering' to 'no real brotherhood': BJP on Uddhav-Raj Thackeray reunion MNS chief Raj Thackeray said the three-language formula imposed by the state government was a 'precursor to its plan to separate Mumbai from Maharashtra'. . 'They imposed Hindi to test the waters. They imposed it without holding deliberation with stakeholders and experts. You have power in the legislature but we have power on the streets,' he said. Raj further asked if Hindi is so powerful, then why the Hindi speaking states are backward compared to other states. 'Why didn't Hindi help them to progress?'

Congress, BJP Stage Protests In Kerala Seeking Minister Veena George's Resignation

Thiruvananthapuram: Various wings of parties in the Congress-led UDF and the BJP staged widespread protests in Kerala on Saturday seeking the resignation of state Health Minister Veena George over the death of a woman when a portion of the Kottayam Medical College building collapsed two days ago. Amidst the protests, state Cooperation Minister V N Vasavan came to the defence of his cabinet colleague by asking why she should resign if a portion of the building collapsed. "When 11 people died in Bengaluru during a stampede at a cricket-related event there, did anyone ask for the resignation of any of the ministers there? "If an aircraft crashes do you ask for the Prime Minister's resignation? If there is a road accident, should the Road Transport Minister resign? The Health Minister did not bring the building down," he said, defending George. Vasavan also termed the incident as "unfortunate" and said steps had been taken in advance to prevent such an incident from happening. During the day, activists of the Youth Congress, Kerala Students Union (KSU), Mahila Congress, Youth League, and the BJP held protests in the state capital and various other cities, including Palakkad, Kochi, Kollam, Kannur, and Mananthavady, seeking the Health Minister's resignation. Protesters marched to the offices of the District Collector or the District Medical Officer (DMO) in many places and confronted the police and water cannons. In the state capital, Youth Congress activists marched to the official residence of George, and police used water cannons to disperse the protestors. Similar scenes were witnessed in many other cities of the state, including Wayanad, where Youth Congress activists tried to place a wreath in the office of the DMO there. In Pathanamthitta, BJP workers marched to the family residence of the health minister and tried to bring down the barricades placed by police to stop them. Activists of the saffron party also held a protest march to the Kozhikode medical college and shouted slogans against the minister. In many places, police had to forcefully remove the protestors after several rounds of water cannons could not disperse them. In Palakkad, senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala, while launching a protest by the Mahila Congress against George, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan ought to have sought the Health Minister's resignation before going abroad in view of her alleged "inefficiency", "indifference", and "grave mistakes". As part of their protest, the Mahila Congress workers tied their mouths with a black cloth and carried banners and placards seeking George's resignation. He told reporters that while he was not against the CM going abroad for medical treatment, he expected Vijayan to seek her resignation. "I thought the government would consider the fact that the poor people cannot go to the US or UK for treatment," he said. He also criticised CPI(M) state secretary M V Govindan for his remark, a day ago, that the protests were being carried out on the directions of Sunil Kanugolu, the election strategist of the Congress party. Chennithala pointed out that even before the protests, a government doctor of the Thiruvananthapuram government medical college made clear allegations against the health department. He also alleged that the Left government has destroyed the health sector in the state during its nine-year rule and asked, "So, are the protests unnecessary?" Similar allegations were made by the Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, V D Satheesan, who reiterated the demand for George's resignation. Satheesan also alleged that there was "huge corruption" and "mismanagement" in the health department, which was only doing "PR and propaganda work." He claimed that the Health Department was "on a ventilator" and that George was responsible for it. The opposition leader claimed that the Left party and the government were trying to protect the minister. The protestors alleged that the minister was responsible for the death of 52-year-old Bindu and demanded a judicial probe into the incident. At Kozhikode, the Youth League held a protest seeking George's resignation. Youth Congress activists also held a protest outside the Palakkad District Collectorate, demanding George's resignation and shouting slogans against her. They also managed to enter the Collectorate compound, before many of them were forcibly removed from there by police. Bindu (52) died, and three others, Aleena (11), Amal Pradeep (20), and Jinu Saji (38) were injured in the incident. Congress, the BJP, and their various wings held protests in various parts of the state on Friday as well. While the Congress and BJP termed the death as "tantamount to murder", state Cooperation Minister V N Vasavan said such allegations were "politically motivated". Later in the day, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the government will strengthen all precautionary measures to ensure that such "unfortunate and painful" incidents do not recur. The toilet complex adjacent to wards 10, 11, and 14 at Kottayam Government Medical College collapsed on Thursday while the hospital was in the process of fully shifting operations to the newly constructed surgical block.
