DBKL Targets 762,500 Housing Units Under PTKL2040
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 (Bernama) – Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) aims to provide up to 762,500 housing units by 2040, in line with the direction of the Kuala Lumpur Local Plan 2040 (PTKL2040), which focuses on the well-being of urban residents.
Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif said the housing stock as of 2020 stood at 500,803 units, comprising both open market housing and affordable housing.
"Over the next 15 years, new housing development will be planned based on the increasing number of residents and households in the capital.
'Housing planning will emphasise the needs of various groups, including youth, B40 and M40 families, senior citizens and other vulnerable communities,' she told Bernama.
She said the plan also introduces the provision of micro and transit units for newly working youths, compact housing for dual-income, no-kids (DINK) couples and young professionals, as well as age-friendly housing for the elderly.
Maimunah said DBKL has also allocated several specific land-use zones for housing, including Residential Zone 4 (R4), designated for affordable and public housing.
She said PTKL2040 emphasises the principle of inclusive development by maintaining a balance between the need for housing, access to public transportation and environmental sustainability.
She added that the housing target also takes into account the potential for redevelopment of existing areas and the provision of government land in strategic locations within the city.
'The pricing of affordable housing is subject to the National Affordable Housing Policy, with a maximum price set at RM300,000 per unit, in line with initiatives such as Residensi Wilayah.

Miti: Semiconductor workers see 20pct pay jump after upskilling programmes
KUALA LUMPUR: Workers who took part in upskilling programmes for the semiconductor industry have enjoyed pay rises of up to 20 per cent, with more than half now earning over RM3,000 a month, the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) said. These initiatives, led by bodies like Collaborative Research in Engineering, Science and Technology (CREST) and TalentCorp, are part of the ministry's efforts to equip local talent for high-value sectors and have trained over 13,000 skilled workers so far. Among the initiatives in place are IC MyChipStart, the Selangor IC Design Park, Silicon Island in Penang and the Sama Jaya High-Tech Park in Sarawak. Beyond talent development, Miti also revealed that RM22.9 billion worth of Green Investments had been approved as of March 2025 under the Green Investment Strategy (GIS), covering 1,492 projects nationwide. These projects are expected to create 9,199 jobs, contributing to Malaysia's long-term sustainable development goals under the 13MP. The GIS focuses on seven key areas, including renewable energy and the circular economy, aimed at boosting green competitiveness and achieving national carbon reduction targets. Of the RM611 billion allocated under 13MP, RM227 billion has been set aside for the economic sector. Miti is tasked with implementing several key policies, including the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030, the National Semiconductor Strategy, the National Investment Aspirations and the national i-ESG framework. To ensure accountability and timely implementation, Miti said it will enhance monitoring through the Policy Implementation Plan Monitoring System, supported by mechanisms such as the Miti Report Card and the Delivery Management Unit under NIMP 2030. "Miti is fully committed to driving the strategic policies of 13MP to position Malaysia as a global potential driver," said minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

Govt to begin Budget 2026 consultations this Thursday
KUALA LUMPUR: The government will kick off its Budget 2026 consultation session this Thursday to collect feedback from various stakeholders, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He said the consultation session will run until the final draft of the national budget is completed and aims to gather as much input as possible to ensure that Budget 2026 reflects the aspirations of both the people and the private sector. 'This consultation session is part of our effort to hear from multiple parties about their expectations and concerns regarding the content of Budget 2026,' he said after delivering a keynote address at the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) Nexus Forum (CNF25) today. Also present was Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh. Fahmi explained that Budget 2026 will take into account ongoing initiatives, existing policies, as well as current geopolitical conditions and economic challenges. He said the budget will also align with the priorities outlined in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) unveiled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last week. One of the key focus areas of the budget, Fahmi noted, will be on micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which are vital to the national economy and play a major role in job creation. 'MSMEs are the lifeblood of our economy, contributing roughly 70 per cent of employment for Malaysians. It's therefore essential that the government understands the issues they face,' he said. According to the Parliamentary Calendar, Budget 2026 is scheduled to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat on Oct 10.
