Monaco beat slumping Marseille 3-0 on Saturday to take second place in Ligue 1 from their opponents and boost their hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League.
Heading into the weekend, only five points separated Marseille in second from seventh-placed Lille in a tight battle to secure European football.

Monaco took a big step towards the Champions League by inflicting a fourth defeat in five Ligue 1 games on Roberto De Zerbi's Marseille, who are in danger of throwing away a place in the competition next season after sitting second in the French top flight for much of the campaign.
The teams who finish second and third behind champions Paris Saint-Germain will secure spots in the league phase, with the fourth-placed side heading into the qualifying rounds.
Monaco took the lead in the 34th minute at the Stade Louis II when Takumi Minamino swept home his fifth league goal of the season following some dreadful Marseille defending.
OM came close to an equaliser shortly before half-time, but Luis Henrique's effort was well saved by Monaco goalkeeper Philipp Kohn.

The hosts doubled their advantage shortly before the hour mark as Breel Embolo slipped the ball past Geronimo Rulli after an excellent pass through from Vanderson.
The goal was eventually awarded following a lengthy VAR review for offside.
Monaco added further gloss to the scoreline and bolstered their goal difference, which could prove crucial come the end of the season, through Denis Zakaria's late penalty.
Later on Saturday, Lille visit Toulouse before fourth-placed Strasbourg host sixth-placed Nice.

Brighton sign former PSV defender Olivier Boscagli on free transfer

Brighton & Hove Albion have confirmed the signing of former PSV Eindhoven defender Olivier Boscagli on a free transfer. The Frenchman has signed a five-year deal with his new club. The Athletic reported in June that Brighton were set to sign Boscagli, 27, following the expiration of his contract with the Dutch champions. The left-footed defender was on the club's radar last summer. Advertisement 'We're delighted to welcome Olivier to Brighton,' head coach Fabian Hurzeler said. 'He has got a lot of experience with PSV and we like his versatility — he can play in several positions and we feel it is important to have these players in our squad. We are looking forward to working with him.' Boscagli made 43 appearances for PSV during the 2024-25 campaign and captained the side on occasion, as they recovered a nine-point deficit to defend their Eredivisie title over Ajax. The former France youth international featured 204 times since signing for the club in 2019. His arrival continues a revamp of Brighton's defence, following injury issues to the backline last season. Captain Lewis Dunk, who will be 34 in November, missed 13 Premier League games through injury last season, while Adam Webster missed 16 matches and Igor Julio was sidelined for over four months with a hamstring issue. Boscagli joins 21-year-old Diego Coppola in joining the south-coast club this summer to add to Fabian Hurzeler's options in central defence. Brighton agreed a fee of €11m (£9.4m) with Hellas Verona to acquire the Italy international. After coming through the academy of Ligue 1 club Nice, Boscagli garnered experience on a loan spell with Nimes Olympique before making his first-team debut for his parent club in 2015. He went on to play 36 times for the French club before joining PSV, where he went on to win two Dutch titles, the KNVB Cup twice, and the Johan Cruyff Shield three times. Boscagli becomes Brighton's third signing of the summer, following Coppola and Greek 18-year-old striker Charalampos Kostoulas to the Amex. Wingers Yun Do-young and Tommy Watson also arrive at the club this summer after Brighton agreed deals to sign both players, from Daejeon Hana Citizen and Sunderland respectively, earlier this year. Earlier on Wednesday, Brighton confirmed the departure of striker Joao Pedro to Chelsea, after a deal in excess of £50m was agreed between the two clubs. (Franck Fife/AFP via Getty Images)

Juventus seal move for Jonathan David

After an extremely long period of contacts and negotiations, Juventus have completed their pursuit of former Lille forward and Canadian international Jonathan David, sealing their first signing of the 2025/26 season. Giovanni Albanese of La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Bianconeri have acquired the 25-year-old on a multi-year contract worth €6m per-season, with additional bonuses of €2m. Advertisement David has been the main topic of the transfer market thus far as the well-documented forward was available on a free transfer at the end of the season after deciding not to renew his contract with Lille, ending his five-year stay at the French giants. The clinical finisher had a stellar campaign, ending the season with a total of 25 goals and 12 assists in 49 games-played across all competitions, proving to be a pivotal asset up-top. Hence, the Canadian forward has attracted numerous suitors such as Inter, Napoli, Milan, PSG, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Bayern Munich. Despite the immense competition for David's signature, the Bianconeri managed to overcome the European giants in acquiring the 25-year-old forward's services, and are now prepared to let attacking pair Dusan Vlahovic and Arkadiusz Milik depart the club to make room in the attacking department.
