1-2 Special Takes North America For Radu Jude's ‘Dracula' Ahead Of Locarno Debut

Yahoo08-07-2025
1-2 Special has acquired all North American rights to Romanian director Radu Jude's new movie Dracula ahead of its world premiere in Competition at the Locarno Film Festival in August.
Shot and set in Transylvania, where the vampire myth began, the film sees Jude embark on an epic odyssey to make Dracula great again.

1-2 Special described the movie as a trademark Jude black comedy paying tribute to one of cinema's greatest legends and featuring 'vampires, zombies, blood, sex, AI images and car chases'.
The Locarno premiere will mark Jude's second major festival outing this year, after Kontinental '25, which won the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at this year's Berlinale. The acquisition continues 1-2 Special's relationship with Jude after it acquired the latter film out of Berlin.
'I am very happy and extremely grateful that Dracula will be brought to American audiences. One can say 'brought back', since this myth circled the world and the American cinema changed it so many times,' said Jude.
'I hope it is now time to see the myth wearing new clothes, made in the heart of real Transylvania. When I am asked who is Dracula in the film, I always reply that the film itself is Dracula. I would also add that this film is my humble homage to some great American underrated auteurs: Ed Wood, Andy Warhol and the Fluxus filmmakers.'
Jude's previous work includes Golden Bear-winner Bad Luck Banging Or Loony Porn and Aferim!, which won the Silver Bear for Best Director.
Dracula is produced by Romania's Saga Film, with Austria's Nabis Filmgroup, Luxembourg's Paul Thiltges Distribution, Brazil's RT Features, Luxembourg's Samsa Film, Switzerland's Bord Cadre Films, the UK's Sovereign Films and Romania's MicroFILM.
The deal was negotiated by Luxbox on behalf of the filmmakers with 1-2 Special.

What time does new 'South Park' come out? Premiere date, where to watch Season 27

The raunchy animated series "South Park" is nearing 30 years on air, and it's back for another season that promises a post-election return more wacky and ominous than ever. Co-created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, "South Park," like "The Simpsons" or "Bob's Burgers," offers the joy of Sunday cartoons without any of the charming naivete. Instead, the program leans into dark comedy and a "you're so wrong for that" sensibility. Known for satirizing real-life politics and pop culture issues, this season will again touch on topics other shows would steer away from, like recent airplane crashes, a crisis at the Federal Aviation Administration and the fate of American democracy. The previous season of "South Park" premiered over two years ago. The show did not air during the 2024 presidential contest between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, a choice Parker and Stone told Variety at the time they made "on purpose." Here's what to know about Season 27. What time does 'South Park' Season 27 premiere? The newest season of "South Park" is set to premiere Wednesday, July 23, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central. The episode will be rebroadcasted at 11:35 p.m. ET. Where to watch 'South Park' Season 27 The new episodes of "South Park" will air on Comedy Central and then stream on Paramount+ the following day, Paramount said in a news release announcing its deal to acquire the show's past episode. You can also stream the series through FuboTV, Philo, Sling TV, YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV or DirecTV. Why Steve Jobs' Daughter Eve's $5M Wedding Is Turning a Rural Town 'Upside Down'

Move over Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez, there's a new tech billionaire wedding on the horizon, and this time it's Steve Jobs' daughter, Eve Jobs, whose English wedding is 'turning rural Oxfordshire upside down,' per a source. The 27-year-old model is set to marry British showjumper Harry Charles in a quiet English village this weekend, and per The Sun, there will be no expenses spared on the $5 million event. More from SheKnows Insiders Claim This Member of the British Royal Family May Be at Eve Jobs' Wedding This Weekend 'It's a society wedding like no other and it's turning rural Oxfordshire upside down,' a source told the outlet. 'The sleepy village in which it's taking place feels like it's turning into a no-go zone, with secret service operatives and blokes who look like they work for the FBI.' Eve is the youngest child of Laurene Powell Jobs and Apple founder Steve Jobs, who died in 2011 and the age of 56. Laurene, who also shares 33-year-old son Reed and 29-year-old daughter Erin with her late-husband, is reportedly going all out for the wedding and has booked Elton John to perform. Famous guests will include former Vice President Kamala Harris, who is a close friend of Laurene, Bruce Springsteen's daughter Jessica, and Bill Gates' daughters, Phoebe and Jennifer. 'This is a very quiet place not far from the Cotswolds. Everyone is used to tourists and famous faces, but this is something else,' the source added. 'There are a lot of important American political figures going to be there. No doubt they'll all be Googling each other.' 'The wedding is being planned like a military operation,' the insider added. 'The itinerary is scheduled so precisely, with guests starting to arrive all this week before the wedding celebrations begin on Thursday.' Eve debuted her relationship with Harry at the Paris Olympics, where he took home a gold medal along with the rest of the British showjumping team. David Ellison Met With FCC Chairman in Push to Finalize Approval for Paramount Deal

Skydance chief David Ellison met with FCC Chairman Brendan Carr earlier this week as the entertainment executive seeks to complete FCC approval for his company's acquisition of Paramount Global, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Ellison met with Carr, his chief of staff Greg Watson, and Ben Arden, special counsel in the Office of the Bureau Chief of the Media Bureau, on Tuesday, July 15. The meeting comes as the FCC appears to be nearing a decision on the transfer of CBS broadcast licenses, as organizations like the Teamsters and Center for American Rights plead their case for what concessions the FCC should seek. Last week, representatives for the CBS Television Network Affiliates Association met with the FCC to push for guarantees related to local resources. The commitment to local also came up in the meeting. 'With respect to the Transaction's significant public interest benefits, we explained the Ellison family and RedBird represent fresh leadership with the vision and experience needed to drive New Paramount's long-term growth in the face of the challenges presented by today's media landscape, all while preserving and enhancing the legacy and broad reach of both the national CBS television network and the company's 28 owned-and-operated local television stations,' the filing said. As THR previously noted, the question of DEI also appears to have come up in the meeting, with the FCC requiring any company seeking to get a deal done to agree to end any support for such programs. The filing noted Skydance's 'commitment to promoting non-discrimination and equal employment opportunity at New Paramount, ensuring the company is fully compliant with law,' suggesting that it is prepared to follow that precedent, which has been agreed to by T-Mobile, Verizon, and other companies under FCC review. And Ellison addressed concerns that some companies had made about a stake that the Chinese company Tencent has in the company, noting that it is a non-voting, passive stake that will be equal to less than 5 percent of the company's equity post-deal. 'We made clear that Mr. Ellison will lead New Paramount with a talented team of executives focused on American storytelling, and that RedBird's investment in New Paramount will not involve any participation by any Chinese entity or individual,' the filing says. Paramount has been among the most-closely watched media companies in the world over the past few weeks, following the company's $16 million settlement with President Trump. A shock decision to cancel the Late Show with Stephen Colbert made this week has only propelled that chatter. Ellison's meeting with the FCC suggests that the company's future, one way or the other, will be decided soon, and that he is preparing to make changes if and when he and his partners at RedBird take control.
