Packers Must Consider Late Push for 5-Time Pro Bowler

Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers have started off the 2025 NFL season. With training camp underway, the pursuit of a Super Bowl run has begun.
Over the last two years since Jordan Love took over as the team's starting quarterback, the Packers have made the playoffs in both seasons. However, they have been unable to make enough plays to get to the NFC Championship Game.
Looking at the roster, Green Bay should be a contender once again this season. A lot of their success or lack thereof will depend on the growth and development of Love.

One of those concerns comes at the cornerback position. Following Jaire Alexander's departure, the Packers could use more help in the secondary. The other is pass rushing, which Green Bay chose not to address with a veteran and instead brought in two rookie options.
At cornerback, the Packers have made the move to transition Bo Melton from wide receiver to cornerback. That could pay off, but it would be very risky to expect him to play a key role in his first year as a defensive back.
Keeping that in mind, Green Bay should strongly consider pursuing five-time Pro Bowl free agent cornerback Stephon Gilmore.
Gilmore still being available in free agency this late is a major surprise. He has been a longtime star in the NFL, but has yet to be signed. The Packers should bring him onboard.
Last season with the NFC North division rival Minnesota Vikings, Gilmore was a big part of Brian Flores' defense. He played in 15 games, racking up 56 total tackles to go along with an interception and nine defended passes.

Heading into the 2025 campaign, Gilmore is 34 years old and will turn 35 on September 19. He may not be the superstar that he once was, but he's still more than capable of being an impact player.
Green Bay needs more help and consistency at the cornerback position. Gilmore could bring just that and his game is a good fit within second-year defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley's defensive system.
It's possible that the Packers are comfortable with their current situation in the secondary. But, if general manager Brian Gutekunst is open to making a move, he should look no further than Gilmore.

Hunter Renfrow is giving shades of, well, Hunter Renfrow. Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales chatted with reporters following Saturday's outing of training camp, where the 29-year-old wide receiver absolutely shined. Canales said Renfrow has looked "great," and explained why. "It's just the Hunter Renfrow I remember," Canales stated. "He looks healthy. I think everyone who's watched football over the last four or five years remembers what he looks like, and he's really playing in top form right now. Renfrow's story took an unfortunate turn last year, when he missed the entire 2024 campaign due to a trying battle with ulcerative colitis. The five seasons prior saw Renfrow amass 2,884 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns for the Las Vegas Raiders, a run headlined by his first Pro Bowl selection in 2021. The Myrtle Beach, S.C. native and Clemson University product signed on with the Panthers shortly following the 2025 NFL draft. To stay on and complete his comeback, Renfrow will have to squeeze himself into a relatively tight wideout room—one that already features the likes of first-round picks Tetairoa McMillan and Xavier Legette, another former Pro Bowler in Adam Thielen and 2024 standout Jalen Coker. Bengals, Nick Saban Connection Emerges in Stunning Suggestion

The 2025 NFL season has begun with training camp and the Cincinnati Bengals will be an interesting team to watch. After missing the playoffs last season, there is a sense of urgency surrounding the franchise. Should the Bengals miss the playoffs once again this season, some major changes could come next. Zac Taylor, the team's head coach, is likely facing some pressure heading into this year. His job could very well be on the line. Joe Burrow played at an MVP level last season. That wasn't enough to lift Cincinnati into the playoffs. Moving forward, the team will have to figure out how to get back to being a Super Bowl contender like it was just a few short years ago. That suggestion is none other than legendary college football head coach Nick Saban, who has started coming up in rumors about a potential return to coaching in the NFL. Nick Wright, a notable sports analyst, spoke out and revealed that he believes Cincinnati would be a potential destination for Saban. "I'll throw a different one at you that is same state, different team. If this coming year goes the way I think it might for Cincinnati, I think Nick Saban is an interesting idea there," Wright said. "Listen, got to coach up the defense, got to have someone to actually have as big of a voice in the organization as the owner, got to clean up some of the nonsense going in the years they deal with every year, again, most of which is owner-related. And let Joe and Jamar handle the offense. Almost offload the offense to them." He continued on, sharing his belief that Saban would want to join a team that can compete right away after taking over. "You handle the details, finding some of the edges in young players from the college game that you're very aware of their skillset, and coach up the defense. Because the only point that you made that I disagree with is, if I'm Nick Saban and I want to do this, I'm not that interested in a studs-to-the-top-down rebuild. I'm much more interested in, I've got three or four years. Let me see if I can have a contender immediately. I think the Bengals who, if they miss the playoffs again, probably will be looking for a new coach. I think they could be an attractive one." He may not choose to return to coaching. But, if he does, he might have interest in heading back to the NFL and proving to himself that he can succeed at that level as well. ESPN analyst believes Lamar Jackson is getting closer to a legacy few will ever match
Longtime ESPN voice believes Ravens star Lamar Jackson is on the cusp of immortality They just don't make them like that anymore... Oh yeah! You remember hearing that a time or two. That's one of those nuggets you probably heard while hanging out with dad (or maybe grandad). It was a phrase meant to show appreciation for the 'good old days, when cars were better built and sofas didn't tear up because you sat on them. They don't make them like Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson either. He's a walking evolution at the quarterback position. He's this generation's Randall Cunningham, a right-handed Steve Young or Michael Vick. 'Action Jackson' is special, and he can still play at a high level for several more years. That's good news for Ravens fans everywhere. But, is Lamar Jackson approaching immortality? Jackson's story is still being written, and it's too early to make determinations about when and how it ends. All we can guarantee is this. If he adds another MVP trophy and wins a Super Bowl or two, we'll be talking about Canton and his Pro Football Hall of Fame argument. Recently, the most unique and compelling of words was attached to his name: immortal. Hmmm... It sounds interesting. Don't blame us. Blame ESPN's Mike Greenberg. He's the one who brought this up. Here's what he said on the subject. "For Lamar and Josh Allen, what they're playing for is immortality. Both of them could retire tomorrow, and they'd be in the Hall of Fame. But, if either of them, and we'll use Lamar in this case because that's who we're talking about, wins a championship, all of a sudden he vaults into that place where the conversation on shows like this one are, 'Where does he belong on the list with the great quarterbacks of all time?' Two regular-season MVPs and a Super Bowl starts that conversation." It's interesting... We'll tell you that. Still, nothing says 'immortal' like having one's bust carved and having it placed in the hallowed football shrine in Canton. Jackson has a chance at having that happen. Winning a Lombardi Trophy will certainly help his argument. There are Super Bowl winners who were never enshrined. There are HOF enshrinees who never won 'the chip'. The AFC is loaded, but this season represents Jackson's best opportunity to win a ring. Let that be his and the Ravens' goal this season. Immortality can wait, even if we can make successful arguments for why he's on his way to arriving there.
