Harlem Globetrotters offering first ever tryouts
The Globetrotters aim to build a dynamic roster for the Centennial season, blending elite athletic skills with their signature showmanship.
President Keith Dawkins called this a rare, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."We are creating one of the most unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for talented high-level athletes and entertainers," Dawkins said. He emphasized that the Globetrotters are offering fair pay, sales royalties, content opportunities, and community impact programs.
Tryouts are set for early fall, with dates and locations coming soon. About 30 athletes will be invited to this next step. The final team will be revealed in November after a detailed selection process.
The Globetrotters are widening their search for talent. They've attended top showcase events like the Portsmouth Invitational and the NBA Pre-Draft Camp. They've also added former SIAC Commissioner Gregory Moore as a talent recruitment consultant.
The team's HBCU legacy remains strong.Several current Globetrotters proudly represent HBCUs:
Randy 'Crash' McClure: An Albany State University alum, McClure scored over 1,000 career points. He's a two-time NBPA HBCU Top 50 selectee and joined the Globetrotters in 2021 after playing overseas.Prince Moss: The Grambling State University guard was drafted by the Globetrotters in 2022. Moss made waves at the nationally televised HBCU All-Star Game.Angelo Sharpless: A former CIAA Player of the Year from Elizabeth City State University, Sharpless is known for his exciting, high-flying style.
These players showcase the rich talent flowing from HBCUs. They continue the Globetrotters' tradition of celebrating Black excellence on and off the court.
Over the past year, the Globetrotters performed in 50 international markets and 46 cities across North America. They set 18 new Guinness World Records-one of their best seasons to date.

South Carolina State University, a leading HBCU, has named Tess Abbott as its new Director of Recruiting for the football program. Head coach Chennis Berry announced her addition on July 1, 2025. She led campus events, coordinated team logistics, and handled key administrative projects. She also gained professional sports experience with the High Point Rockers, where she served as Community Relations and Social Media Coordinator. Academic and Athletic Achievements Abbott earned a master's degree in Sport Management from Coastal Carolina University. While there, she interned with the football team and served as a graduate assistant. She also holds a bachelor's degree in Sport Management from Western Michigan University, with minors in Event Management and General Business. A former student-athlete, Abbott competed on WMU's gymnastics team. She later served as a student assistant coach. In 2022, she received the NCAA Ethnic Minority Graduate Scholarship and completed a diversity internship with WMU Athletics. Cleveland Browns add another HBCU product to its roster
The Cleveland Browns have signed cornerback Keenan Isaac, a former Alabama State University standout. His addition continues the team's growing investment in talent from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Isaac becomes the second former Alabama State player currently on the roster, joining wide receiver Kisean Johnson. Isaac (6-3, 190) is entering his second NFL season. He originally signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent in 2023. Last season, he appeared in five games with Tampa Bay. In spring 2025, he played for the Houston Roughnecks in the UFL. Isaac brings experience and size to Cleveland's secondary. He will wear No. 38. The Browns also added wide receiver Chase Cota from Oregon in the same transaction. Cota (6-4, 205) previously spent time with the Lions, Chiefs, and Texans. He'll wear No. 81 as he looks to compete for a roster spot. Another HBCU representative on the Browns roster is rookie offensive tackle Jason Ivey. Ivey played at North Carolina A&T and stands 6-foot-5, weighing 300 pounds. He wears No. 72 and is entering his first NFL camp. The Browns also drafted quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Sanders began his college career at Jackson State, where he earned two SWAC Offensive Player of the Year honors. He later transferred to Colorado. Now, he joins a quarterback group in Cleveland that's drawing national attention. With Isaac, Johnson, Ivey, and Sanders all on the roster, Cleveland is becoming a notable destination for HBCU-developed talent. The Browns are also preparing for a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, scheduled ahead of their upcoming preseason matchup. The joint sessions will take place in Charlotte, North Carolina, and are expected to provide valuable reps for young players like Shedeur Sanders, Keenan Isaac, and Jason Ivey. These practices give coaches a chance to evaluate talent in a competitive but controlled environment. For players battling for roster spots, it's a key opportunity to make a strong impression. Sha'Carri Richardson runs SB, but HBCU star wins race
Sha'Carri Richardson ran a season's best in the USATF 100m on Friday - but a former HBCU star outshined her in the White, a national champion at North Carolina A&T, ran a personal-best 10.89 to win her heat. She topped Sha'Carri Richardson's time of 11.07 in the process. Kayla White dominates at HBCU For her career, White won 17 MEAC indoor and outdoor sprint and hurdle titles at HBCU track factory North Carolina A&T from 2016 to Miami, Florida native secured her first career win at the 2016 MEAC Indoor Championships. She claimed the 60-meter hurdles title in 8.39 seconds. That spring, she followed up with an outdoor title in the 100-meter hurdles and added a win in the 4×100 relay. Eventually, White won the MEAC 60-meter hurdles and the 100-meter hurdles titles in each of her four years with the Aggies. In total, she added MEAC 4×100 relay titles in 2017, 2018, and 2019. She also swept the 100 and 200-meter titles during her junior and senior seasons. At the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships, she finished second in the 60-meter hurdles. She also placed second in the NCAA Outdoor 100-meter final. White vs. Richardson: A Rivalry in the Making White has faced Sha'Carri Richardson multiple times as a pro. She defeated the Olympic gold medalist in the 200 meters at the inaugural Botswana Grand Prix on April 29, 2023. While there's no doubt more battles are ahead, White came out on top in their latest showdown - winning the 100m on Friday.
