British Grand Prix brings 'great benefits' to Oxfordshire
Chris Aylett, who is the chief executive of the Motorsport Industry Association, said: "There's no question that to have the world's best and most popular Grand Prix race in the centre of motorsport valley and in this region is enormously valuable."He said fans "don't arrive for a two hour football game - motor racing takes up days, so they do stay in the area"."The economic value is absolutely outstanding," he added."It's good for Oxfordshire and from a tourism point of view, and its pretty good on the commercial side too."
Lesley Wright , from the tourist board Experience Oxfordshire, said Silverstone and the county "work in synergy" to bring in a "substantial number" of investment."We have lots of visitors coming in, staying over in hotels across the county - with many substantially booked out many months before the Grand Prix takes place," she explained.Ms Wright said many visitors were "staying longer", spending money at the county's bars and restaurants and visiting tourist attractions. She added that the annual British Grand Prix brings "great benefits into Oxfordshire".
Alongside the impact of tourism on the local area, F1 teams Haas, Williams and Alpine all call Oxfordshire home - whilst many other local firms support the four other UK-based teams with engineering support.Formula 1 president Stefano Domenicali described the UK as "the heart and rock and roll of this business" during a meeting with Sir Kier Starmer earlier this week.Domenicali said the F1 industry was worth £12bn annually to the UK economy, employs more than 6,000 people and has a supply chain involving 4,500 companies.

Max Verstappen confirms 2026 Red Bull plans after F1 contract clause condition triggered
Max Verstappen has confirmed he will remain a Red Bull driver for the 2026 Formula 1 season. It comes after the Dutchman amassed enough points at last weekend's Belgian Grand Prix to ensure that his exit clause did not become available to trigger in the upcoming mid-season break. Verstappen has been constantly linked with a move to Mercedes in recent months. Speculation over his future only increased after a dramatic move earlier this month saw Red Bull axe Christian Horner after 20 years in charge. The 27-year-old only further fuelled the rumours by constantly refusing to say outright in interviews that he planned to stay put. But it was always the most likely outcome, as reported by Mirror Sport on July 7, the Monday after the British Grand Prix. And now Verstappen has finally shifted his stance on his public comments. Speaking ahead of this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix, he committed his immediate future to his current team and explained why he had chosen not to make any definitive statements about his plans before. He said: "The thing is always that people are waffling so much throughout the whole season, while the only one that actually can or should speak is not speaking. That's me. And I do that on purpose because it makes no sense to start throwing things around, and actually that should be the same for everyone. "Some people just like to stir the pot, some people just like to create drama. But, for me, it's always been quite clear, and also for next year. I'm discussing with the team already the plans, the things that we want to change for next year. So that means that I'm also staying with the team for next year." ---

The BMW M3 CS Touring is now the fastest estate around the Nürburgring
Motorsport The hot M3 wagon has blitzed its predecessor's time. Because of course it has Skip 10 photos in the image carousel and continue reading The BMW M3 CS Touring is now the fastest estate car to have lapped the Nürburgring, having beaten the previous record-holder by half a second. That previous record holder being… itself. Well, the non-CS version of itself. Back in 2022, on the eve of its debut, the not-at-all-regular M3 Touring lapped the 'Ring in 7m 35s. Then again earlier this year, Mr Jorg Weindinger somehow shaved five whole seconds off that time for a 7m 30s lap. Look, it matters, not just for the few people able to purchase one, but to the boss, too. 'From the very beginning, it was clear that the BMW M3 CS Touring would set new standards in dynamics,' said BMW M boss Frank van Meel. He added that the new record demonstrates how the CS 'perfectly combines racing DNA with everyday usability'. You might like Still a way off its siblings, mind: the M4 CSL holds a 7m 18.1s Nürburgring lap time, while the M4 CS did it in 7m 21.9s. And yet, it's only a second slower than the four-door M3 CS saloon, which recorded a lap time of 7m 28.7s. BMW reckons the M3 CS T is therefore 'the perfect 'one car solution''. A very powerful one car solution. The M3 Touring's 3.0-litre has been ramped up to 542bhp for the CS iteration, allowing a 0-62mph time of just 3.5s and top speed of 186mph. Other tweaks include a new exhaust, special chassis settings, big M carbon brakes, and a few external design changes. It's 15kg lighter, too, but you could achieve more by eating less.
