Tropical Depression 6-E becoming better organized, expected to become Hurricane Flossie early this week
A tropical depression is a tropical cyclone that has maximum sustained winds below 39 mph. Once a tropical depression forms, the NHC gives it a number based on its order of formation in the hurricane season and a suffix corresponding to the Atlantic and the Eastern and Central Pacific basins. The "E" indicates the depression's location.

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the southwestern coast of Mexico from Zihuatanejo to Manzanillo.
Should Tropical Depression Six-E develop into Flossie, it would be the sixth named storm to form in the Eastern Pacific this season.Original article source: Tropical Depression 6-E becoming better organized, expected to become Hurricane Flossie early this week

Hurricane Flossie weakens to Category 1 off Mexico's Pacific coast
MEXICO CITY — Hurricane Flossie continued to weaken as a Category 1 hurricane off Mexico's southwestern Pacific coast with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph (120 kph), the U.S. National Hurricane Center said. It's expected to remain offshore and dissipate Thursday, but swells as well as 'life-threatening' surf and rip currents were expected in southwestern Mexico and the Baja California peninsula in the coming days.

Bryan Norcross: Tropical development possible between Florida and North Carolina
A cold front pushing through North Georgia today will end up lodged over North Florida by Friday morning. At the same time, a broad upper-level low will sprawl across the Florida Peninsula. The combination of those systems looks likely to trigger the formation of a broad disturbance that will have the potential of developing into a tropical system. The National Hurricane Center is painting an area from the extreme northeastern Gulf to the waters off North Carolina. They are giving the system a medium chance of evolving into at least a tropical depression. The consensus of the various computer forecast models is that the system is most likely to develop over the Atlantic, if it does, although development over the northeastern Gulf cannot be ruled out. The atmospheric pattern does not favor significant development, but it does appear to be supportive of areas with heavy rain into early next week. The location of the heaviest rainfall late in the weekend depends on if a system develops and where it drifts. But for the next few days, the focus of the rain will likely be the Florida Peninsula. Flooding is possible where heavy and persistent rain falls, so stay article source: Bryan Norcross: Tropical development possible between Florida and North Carolina

Hurricane Flossie strengthens further off Mexico's Pacific coast
MEXICO CITY (AP) — Hurricane Flossie has continued to strengthen off Mexico's southwestern Pacific coast with maximum sustained winds of 140 kph (85 mph), according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami. The hurricane center said Flossie became a Category 1 hurricane Monday night. The center said Flossie was about 260 kilometers (160 miles) south of Manzanillo and was moving west-northwest off the Mexican coast at 17 kph (10 mph). It was expected to skirt the coast for a few days while dropping rain on several Mexican states. Mexico's government earlier issued a tropical storm warning along the southwestern coast from Punta San Telmo to Playa Perula. A tropical storm watch remained in effect for other areas on the southwest coast from Zihuatanejo to Cabo Corrientes. A watch means tropical storm conditions are possible in the area within two days. While its center is forecast to remain offshore, rainfall up to 150 mm (6 inches) was likely for parts of the Mexican states of Guerrero, Michoacán, Colima, and Jalisco into Wednesday, with the possibility of life-threatening flooding and mudslides, especially in steep terrain. Flossie is forecast to strengthen over the next 36 hours before weakening over cooler waters.
